With the Republican contenders meeting in Mesa, Ariz., Wednesday night for their final debate before Tuesday’s primaries in that state and in Michigan, the issue of illegal immigration will likely get another turn in the spotlight and the GOP will get another reminder of the general election difficulties it faces with Hispanic voters.
None of the four remaining GOP contenders has voiced support for a broad amnesty that would allow younger illegal immigrants to become permanent legal residents.
NBC-Marist Michigan poll
NBC-Marist Arizona poll
Of the four, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has the most accommodating policy toward illegal immigration, calling for local citizen review boards to allow some long-term illegal residents to remain in the United States.
While immigration hasn’t been a dominant issue in this GOP presidential contest, it has a deep impact in Arizona where Republican Gov. Jan Brewer, signed SB 1070, a crackdown on illegal immigrants in 2010. Brewer has not yet endorsed a Republican presidential contender.
President Barack Obama’s Justice Department is trying to overturn that Arizona law and the Supreme Court hears oral arguments in that case on April 25.
The GOP contenders are unlikely to directly criticize the Arizona law in Wednesday's debate on Brewer’s home turf. More than two-thirds of likely Republican primary voters in Arizona said they’d be more inclined to vote for a presidential candidate who backs SB 1070, according to the NBC News/Marist Poll released Wednesday.
The GOP contenders walk a fine line: hard-hitting rhetoric on immigration is popular with conservative primary voters, but may be costly in the fall because Latinos seem likely to account for a bigger share of the general electorate in battleground states like Colorado and Nevada than they did four years ago.
A new NBC News poll shows that GOP presidential hopefuls Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum are neck-and-neck in Michigan, but Romney has a comfortable lead in Arizona. NBC's Chuck Todd reports.
With Brewer now one face of the party on the issue, the GOP has come a long way from 2004 when President George W. Bush -- who said “family values don’t stop at the Rio Grande” -- won an estimated 43 percent of Latino voters. Republican candidate John McCain won an estimated 31 percent of Latino voters in 2008.
In the 2008 election, Arizona went for its own senator, McCain. This year, its 11 electoral votes are an alluring target for Obama’s strategists. But the Democrats’ “chances of it flipping are pretty minimal” this year due to the conservatism of white voters there, said Ruy Teixeira, a political demographer and senior fellow at the Center for American Progress, a Democratic-allied think tank.
In the NBC News/Marist Poll of Arizona voters, in a hypothetical contest between Obama and Mitt Romney, 45 percent said they’d support Romney and 40 percent said they’d back Obama.
But overall in the general election, “The Latino vote is going to be absolutely crucial in 2012,” Teixeira said at a recent conference on Latino voters at American University in Washington.
In Nevada, for example, Teixeira projects a four percentage-point increase in the minority share of the vote and a five-point decline in white working-class voters’ share of the vote.
The NOW panel expects immigration to be a hot-button issue during Wednesday night's GOP presidential debate in Arizona, but will the issue rise to the forefront of national attention?
If Obama can win 80 percent of minority voters nationally, “he could get shellacked” among white voters “as badly as Democratic congressional candidates were in 2010, when they lost the white working class by 30 points” and yet “he could almost survive that level of shellacking,” Teixeira argued.
For every presidential hopeful, a $1 million donor
Even in Pennsylvania, where Latinos were only four percent of the 2008 electorate, they may end up being crucial, Teixeira said.
He predicted that Obama will lose among Pennsylvania’s white working-class voters, but “all he has to do is not get totally wiped out. He can afford a 15-point loss, he can afford a 20-point loss, what he doesn’t want is 30-point loss” among white working-class voters.
“If he can get the Latino vote mobilized and motivated to vote for him at a high level, I think it very much reinforces his chances of taking the state,” he said.
Polling of registered Latino voters for Univision last month suggested that GOP opposition to the DREAM Act will make it impossible for most Latinos to vote Republican in November. In the Univision poll, 85 percent of Latino voters supported the DREAM Act.
Passed by the House, but rejected by the Senate in 2010, the DREAM Act would allow non-citizens under age 30 who entered the United States illegally before their 16th birthday to remain as legal U.S. residents, as long as they’d committed no serious crimes, earned a high school diploma, or served in the military.
Even though more than 60 percent of Latinos are U.S. born, and thus American citizens, most Latino registered voters also say they know someone -- sometimes a family member -- who is an illegal immigrant. That personal connection is one reason why the DREAM Act has become a litmus test.
All but three GOP senators voted against allowing a vote on the DREAM Act in 2010; all but five Democratic senators voted for it.
Obama’s support for the DREAM Act may be an electoral liability in states such as North Carolina -- Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan and three of the state’s Democratic House members voted against it in 2010 -- and in Indiana: Democratic Senate candidate Rep. Joe Donnelly voted against it. Obama carried both North Carolina and Indiana in 2008.
But elsewhere Obama’s support for the bill seems likely to help him win Latino votes.
“A lot of Latinos are very upset about Obama’s deportation policies” -- there were a record number of deportations in 2010 -- “there’s a disappointment there,” Teixeira said, but he contends that what he calls the “anti-immigrant tenor” of the Republican Party “is pushing Latinos into the arms of the Democratic Party.”
Stanford University political scientist Gary Segura said that the GOP “has missed a strategic opportunity” to win over Latinos. Obama, he said, “is assuming he has support (among Latinos) that he may not have, but he might ultimately get away with it anyway ... because of Republican messaging on the (immigration) issue.”
Republican National Committee spokeswoman Alexandra Franceschi disputed the idea that immigration will dominate Latino voters’ decisions in November.
Romney's organization meets Santorum's momentum
Polls, she said, “show that the number one issue that Hispanics across the country are considering when they’re going to make an electoral decision is jobs and the economy. I think the immigration issue kind of gets blown out of proportion ... .”
She noted that unemployment rate among Latinos is two points higher than the national average “and they’re really frustrated by President Obama’s failed economic policies.”
The RNC launched a Latino outreach program last month, hiring Bettina Inclan, a former strategist for Florida Gov. Rick Scott, to direct that effort which will put RNC field workers in Florida, New Mexico, Colorado and Nevada to mobilize Latino Republicans.
The tension over immigration in the GOP has been between Gingrich and Romney.
In a debate last December, Gingrich referred to “someone who's been here 25 years, somebody who has been a good local citizen, may well belong to your church, has children and grandchildren in the United States,” and argued that “I do not believe the people of the United States are going to send the police in to rip that kind of person out and ship them out of this country ... .”
But he also said that most illegal workers in the United States “should go home immediately” and “we should make deportation dramatically easier.”
Gingrich in one ad branded Romney as “the most anti-immigrant candidate,” and despite taking down that ad, stood by that label when asked about it in a debate last month.
Romney has said, “I am pro-immigrant. I want people to come to America with skill and vitality and vibrancy. I want them to come legally.”
He has also said, “I'm not going around and rounding people up and deporting them.” He proposes that legal immigrants receive a work permit. “People who do not come here legally do not get a work permit. Those who don't get work will tend, over time, to self-deport,” he said.
Romney said last month that he’d veto the DREAM Act, but he supports a version of it that would open a path to citizenship to those who serve in the U.S. military.
Despite the general Latino support for the DREAM Act, Romney did win 54 percent of Latino voters in Florida’s Jan. 31 Republican primary.
Former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum voted against the 2006 comprehensive immigration reform bill which included a version of the DREAM Act.
He supports legal immigration, in order to boost population growth -- “We are not replacing ourselves,” he warned last month -- and because “immigrants bring a vitality and a love of this country that infuses this country with great energy.”
But he said, “people who have come to this country illegally have broken the law repeatedly” by working here and must be deported.
The maverick GOP contender, Texas Rep. Ron Paul, who voted against the Dream Act in 2010, said in a debate last month, “We spend way too much time worrying about the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Use some of those resources on our own border.”
But Paul also seemed to imply he’d tolerate some illegal immigration in a boom economy: “The weaker the economy, the more resentment there is when illegals come in. If you have a healthy, vibrant economy, it's not a problem; we're usually looking for workers.”

Republicans have made it CLEAR they are against brown-skinned people and anyone who doesn't speak English. You can't criminalize children who were brought here against their will by their parents, and require police to interrogate people based on their skin color, and then turn around and try to appeal to those same people.
Gingrich is the only one in tune with the Hispanic community and alternatives to immigration reform.
The rest are in the dark ages.
Obama should push the DREAM act more, and Democrats should put it on ballots in the fall.
I thought Marco Rubio spoke for all Latinos in this country..
Rubio does not speak for all Latinos. He is Cuban. They have a different agenda. Once a Cuban touches land he is here and no one can do a thing about it. The rest of the Latinos that come here illegelly have to watch their back and lay low until they can find a way to get legal
Cameron - you are not being honest.
Please list all of the Republicans that you know have stated that they are against browned skinned people.
The majority of Americans, left and right, black, white, brown, yellow, and red are against ILLEGAL immigration.
LosMan123 - all criminals in this country have to lay low and watch their backs. Nothing new there.
thats the truth losman
no the sheriff homo from AZ is fore and againt
The GOP has planned to install Senator Mark Rubio from Florida as the VP at the upcoming GOP convention and for months already...........and Romney himself is of Mexican descent.......the media really needs to try and keep up.
Hispanic professor in Arizona said this morning on NPR that if Democrats think Hispanics are going to vote for them over Republicans they are misguided. According to him, Democrats have done practically nothing on the immigration issue.
And they won't either, because the majority of their constituents, Democrats and Republicans alike, are opposed to any form of amnesty, regardless if it's labeled dream act or whatever.
I am an old guy, so I remember the "old" Republican Party. Here is a link to the 1956 Republican Party Platform. Read it for yourself to see how far the GOP has changed.
http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/index.php?pid=25838#axzz1n8egVuVG
When this was written, vurtually every African-American and every Latino was a Republican. Eisenhower got about 70% of the Black vote. We don't know about Latinos because they were still "white" back then. Even Nixon got over 50% of the African-American vote. The GOP was very popular with unions because they favored collective bargaining over government actions to settle labor disputes. Virtually every gay person was a "log cabin" Republican.
But the GOP made a knowing and purposeful "bargain with the devil" when Lyndon Johnson sighed the Civil Rights Act in 1964. But it was more complicated than that. In order to get millions of white former Democratic voters in the south to change parties, they first had to drive African-Americans and Latinos and gays and Catholics and Jews out of the GOP. And they did. And it happened at a very bad time because the opposition to the CRA make it a permanent message to minorities that the "big tent" was officially and permanently closed. This in an environment where these same minorities were coming to see advocacy for civil rights and the war on poverty (which was actully hugely successful) lay with the Democratic Party. The end result was a net loss in voters for the GOP and a lot of burned bridges to minority communities.
I always tell people that the American two-party system is like a car. The Democrats are like the engine --- they are all about go, go, go. The Republicans are like the brakes --- nothing but stop and no. But these two groups only comprise about 40% of the voters together. The remainder are the steering wheel of politics --- the Independents --- that 60% of the American electorate that decides where the political roads take us and thus our destination. It takes all three working together to go places. One group alone is worthless.
But the way our politics have evolved has meant that a precarious balance between the two parties is necessary to get anything done. A third party automatically splits one party and has no chance of doing anything. An example is when Teddy Roosevelt, a Republican, started the Progressive Party because he didn't like the direction the GOP was going in. He lost, slipt the ticket and gave the election to the Democrats. Any splinter group which gets more than 5-7% of the urban votes can throw an election against the party that they are closest to in ideology. So there is not likely to be a third party in our future --- its initial "teething pains" would be too costly.
But a weakened GOP --- which is pretty much what we are seeing right now --- that drives itself too far to the right will do as much harm to the Democratic Party as to the GOP. Just as in poker, you need someone to call bluffs, a healthy Democratic Party depends on a healthy healthy loyal opposition with valid and workable ideas to choose from. This is what pushed the Democrats to come up with viable ideas of their own or to side in a bipartisan way with the GOP in compromise.
Our politicians in both parties have done too much kicking the can down the road if it required difficult or unpopular decisions to govern. They have done it time after time for decades upon decades. But the current gridlock prevents any compromise and prevents both parties from attenfing to the country's business. Most people do not rralize that the GOP-controlled House is the least productive session in the history of the country. We have had "do-nothing" Congresses in the past, but this one sets the record. According to Pew, 43% of likely voters would prefer random names from a phone book to the current Congress.
Cameron, you do realize, don't you, that John McCain pushed for amnesty for years and sponsored the 2006 and 2007 amnesty bills? Yet, he only got 30% of the Latino vote, or about 3 million votes. Moreover, should Republicans try to pander by offering amnesty, it will shoot them in the foot, just as it will shoot Democrats in the foot. I'm a lifelong labor Democrat from Michigan and illegal immigration and amnesty are none too popular there. The press there really hasn't covered Obama's administrative amnesty, but a smart Republican candidate will point it out, as well as this administration's efforts to avoid enforcing immigration law. He will point out that the Dream Act would give 10-year work permits to 2.1 million illegal aliens just for applying, with no penalties for fraud. And he will point that Obama could have made eVerify mandatory, but hasn't, instead preferring to let 7 million illegal aliens remain in jobs they've stolen from Americans.
You don't legitimize illegal aliens from other countries, period and end of discussion. Every poll in the last 30 years has the same basic result 75+% of Americans want illegal aliens deported. The same percentage wants to deny citizenship to those born here to illegal aliens.
Do what the people want and stop fishing for votes.
You forgot to mention, Harold, that Democrats had a super majority in Congress the last two years of Bush and the first two of Obama. They could have passed an amnesty IF their consituents really wanted one. Fact is, many if not most of the Democratic rank-and-file don't want one. It's the extreme left of the Party, the liberal elite, who want it, yet they still pretend to be concerned about the AMERICAN worker. Obama spoke to union members in Detroit last fall, literally days after his administrative amnesty was announced. This was his "jobs creation" talk, but not one word of why he was letting illegal aliens remain in the 7 million American jobs they now hold. Frankly, it's far cheaper to remove illegal aliens from jobs than to float more "stimulus packages" to create them.
And UnitedStates1776, Obama is not going to get an amnesty through, if he gets the next four years, anymore than he did in the first four. He didn't do it when Democrats had super majorities and he won't do it now because Republicans are likely to keep Democrats from regaining seats and may even pick some up. Fact is, Obama's refusal to enforce immigration laws has made it very clear what we've said all along--that when amnesty's on the table, laws aren't enforced. The conditions of the 1986 amnesty in regard to enforcement weren't upheld and we know with Obama we won't get enforcement either.
"Are Latino voters a missed 2012 opportunity for Republicans?"
No, I'm sure they'll get around to attempting to pander to them further as time goes by.
After all, who can forget the laughable attempts at Spanish phrases by Romney and Gingrich while they were stumping in Florida.
Yes, the majority of Americans are against illegal immigration, including President Obama, as evidenced by the fact that he has already deported more illegal citizens than Bush.
But Republicans take it a step too far: they are against legal immigration as well, as evidenced by their desire to deport children of immigrants born in this country (and therefore are legal citizens) and refer to them with derogatory slurs such as "anchor baby"; and immigration policies that require police to hassle and interrogate any Latino, even those who are legal citizens, in violation of their 4th Ammendment rights.
Further, Republicans oppose and vote against, time and time again, any bill calling for a legal path to citizenship. You can't say you support legal immigration if you vote against every opportunity to make legal immigration possible.
Are Latino voters a missed 2012 opportunity for Republicans?
NO they are not. ALL LAW-ABIDING, OVER-TAXED AMERICANS are up to stopping President Obama from buying votes with our hard earned money!
Funny observation.
Democrats look at people of all different ethnicity and quickly segregate them into groups divided my race. Then rather than looking at them as Americans, they look at them as voting blocks. Dose this seem inhumane to anyone else?
On the other hand we have republicans that don't seem to be pandering to anyone based on their race but more by the content of their character.
No, republican's have made it clear they are against people who are in the country illegally expecting free schooling, rights equal to or exceeding those who legally dwell in this country, people who don't pay taxes but receive more than most in benefits of those taxes. And would it hurt them to speak english so we don't have to pay as many taxes just to have bilingual employees giving them all the benefits my tax dollar affords.
I could care less if someone is green, blue, white, yellow etc. As long as they are contributing to this country - not sucking up all my tax dollars, and here legally. If I have to obey the laws of this country, why should someone who doesn't live here legally skirt the law?
How I think its wrong Immigration takes from us, whether it be jobs or benefits there is something seriously wrong in which the way some think, we are all immigrants once somewhere..At least there's enough to keep us from being like the Middle East..
Too bad the natives who inhabited Virginia didn't "deport" the white Europeans who came here without invitation in the 1600s. Unless you are a full blooded native person of this continent (America is an Italian name, so I refrain from using it), your roots go back to somewhere else. 99.9999% of the people of African descent did not come here by choice, so they get a free pass on this. However, white people - those of English, Irish, Scottish, German, Scandenavian, Spanish (people from Spain), Italian, Greek, Polish, or other European descent - you have no basis on which to open your mouth when it comes to immigration. YOU have the blood of an immigrant in your veins. When your forefathers came to this land, none of them tried to learn the native language. They just shot the natives and took their land from them, or more recently clustered in their own neighborhoods in the cities where they spoke their own language. (How many generations back would I have to go with an Italian family in Brooklyn before I found someone who didnt speak a word of English?)
Ironically, most dark skinned Mexican and Central American people are descendents of the original native peoples of those areas, so they have more of a right to be here than white European people do. Get over yourselves. You are no better than they are...
We as Americans should STOP deporting ANYONE who is here illegaly!! PERIOD!! Just make it a 10 year sentence in prison and a $100,000. fine per person for employing ANYONE here "ILLEGALY"!! End of problem! NO jobs for (I dont care the color of your skin) "illegals" they will EXIT THIS COUNTRY! Try going to mex. "illegaly" and see how fast you go to jail. Turn about fair play. FIX YOUR OWN FRIKKIN COUNTRY PEOPLE!!!
Cameron Ford, NO, republicans are NOT against legal immigration. They just think that it should NOT be handed out to everyone who applies, and that it particularly should not be skewed to ONE country (Mexico, which currently gets nearly 60% of our allotment) or ethnicity (the REST of the hispanic countries south of Mexico get another 20%).
And, silly them, they think the US has the RIGHT to demand of those who want to come here, that THEY have something to offer the US--not the reverse.
The current policy of admitting immigrants on the lower end of the socio-economic scale does NOTHING to benefit America, but instead adds to its burdens.
We have ENOUGH poor, poorly educated people of our own. The qualifications for admittance should be that the new immigrant should have GOOD job skills/educatino.
UnitedStates1776 (translated for all to see)
The Republican party opposed to immigration reform and for decades.
The Republican party likes the dysfunctional system completely broken immigration laws.
Obama made an agreement with the Republican party that was going to enforce the immigration quota of deportation to the maximum if the Republican Party agree to take the reform immigration.
The Republican party's agreement because they thought that it would be impossible that Obama actually achieve quotas. But the President has completely kept his part of the negotiation, and now the Republican party has refused to keep their side of the bargain.
Obama is the only way to achieve true immigration reform. and that the need to vote out all the obstructionists Republican in Congress, so that we can make progress on these reforms very important.
Notsosure...you mean to fundamentally change america? ob promised to do just that. Is THAT why people have always wanted to come here? I think NOT! COME HERE LEGALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!
I completely agree with Chris 1.9.
Best Post I have ever read!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This article is extremely insulting to "Latinos" and other Americans because it implies (falsely) that in order to win one's vote, it is necessary to pander to discrete ethnic groups by favoring amnesty, financial, and other rewards for immigration lawbreaking! That is despicable. Leaders who follow this logic will lose big time in Election 2012. Most Americans (including this life-long Democrat) are able to grasp the catastropic effects (financial and otherwise) of the ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION BLACKMARKET LABOR SCHEME. We are FED UP! And, we also understand that granting amensty (or financial rewards in the form of taxpayer subsidies) for immigration lawbreakers ONLY SERVES TO FURTHER INCENTIVIZE MORE LAWBREAKING (as Reagan's 1986 Amnesty demonstrated).
Take the State of Maryland as one notable example. The Governor of Maryland signed off on the so-called "Maryland Dream Act" (a/k/a nightmare act). This Act was SO UNPOPULAR that the voters of Maryland signed MORE THAN DOUBLE THE PETITIONS NEEDED to prevent this Nightmare Act from going into effect on July 1, 2011. Those participating in the Petition drive included 30% registered Democrats, many Independents, and African Americans were among the most enthusiastic signatories. Now, the Nightmare Act will be on the ballot in Maryland in November 2012, and the voters of Maryland (not the Maryland legislature and the Governor who sold Maryland citizens out) will get to decide whether they will agree to devote taxpayer resources to ILLEGAL FOREIGN NATIONALS while cutting services to Maryland citizens and LEGAL immigrants.
A GOVERNMENT WHICH REFUSES TO ENFORCE ITS OWN LAWS IS INTOLERABLE!
Will..: Guess what you are an Immigrant to America yourself...Oh I get it it you want to play the "I was here first crap", America has more mixed culture than anywhere on Earth that story is gone and buried.
They have never said that they hate non-white people, its the agenda they are pushing that implies it, the GOP may be reckless and dont think before they speak but they know comming out and saying it directly is a bad mistake. They can put whoever they want as a VP, regular GOP practice is to place tokens around them anyway.
Chris, good post, but you missed a few key points.
1957 the CRA proposed by Republicans was filibustered by Strom Thurmond (D).
1964 when the Dems passed it good ol' LBJ said "“I’ll have those ni**ers voting Democratic for the next 200 years” Lyndon B. Johnson.
Before anyone can justify amnesty for anyone that came here illegally they need to answer a couple questions.
Since when does breaking a law make a person except from that law?
How does a poor person from Mexico deserve head of the line citizenship privileges more than a poor person from Africa?
If a family squats in a foreclosed home, do the kids get to keep the house because they weren't the ones that broke in?
Is the person that wrote this article kidding? ALL the GOP hopefuls have already insulted, enraged or in some way alienated most Americans from every demographic including Latinos.
I am American of Hispanic descent. I have never been a democrat. The GOP stands more for what I believe in. But first and foremost, I am an American.
Trying to figure out the missed opportunity. What the writer ment was to whore out the law where illeagals have free reign to come into are country and demand citizenship. The dems are the whores as usual trying to buy votes and create a whole new slave race of voters like they did to African-Americans, how did that work out? The pandering and race baiting is disgusting. What other country in the world accepts illeagals? Mexico sure the hell does not! Their immigration policy is much tougher than ours.
Gabriel-1934044
I truly respect your statement Gabriel but I need to ask you; You say you believe in what the GOP stands for, is that the old GOP of the past or the mean spirited, overly Religious, right wing billionaires boys club it is today?
What all of you enlightened, "caring" libs choose to ignore in all of your blathering is that there are laws on the books regulating immigration. Until the Dems discovered illegals as yet another source of voters, those laws were usually enforced. But especially now, when an incumbent president with a record of complete failure needs all of the votes he can beg, borrow or steal, don't look for any sudden spurt of enforcement.
Democrats never had a super majority during the last two years of Bush, nor during the first two years under Obama. Under Bush they had 49 seats with two independants. Under Obama they had 58 seats, for a little over a year. and for most of that time, they only had 56-57 Senators present. Because of the death of Robert Byrd, and Ted Kennedy being sick and dying. Even if they did have a super majority under Bush, they could have never overridden a veto.
The gop/teabags absolutely love all the illegal immigrants! Where else can they find ultra cheap labor for their corporations/businesses where they don't have to pay any type of benefits either. All the while driving down wages and benefits for middle class working Americans. The republican mindset is why should we have to pay a fair wage/benefits to American workers when they have an unlimited supply of immigrants who are happy to work for peanuts. Then those gop greed mongers just stuff that coin they save into their foreign bank accounts. That is why the gop talks a lot about immigration but has never done and will never ever do a damn thing about it. Did you ever wonder why they never ever passed laws that impose fines for businesses knowingly hiring cheap immigrant workers. In the end who suffers from this? The immigrants because they are forced to work for peanuts and the American middle class whose jobs are outsourced by greedy business owners who are looking to cash in on cheap labor. This has been the gop/teabag plan all along(to lower/destroy the once great middle class in the U.S.) and line their own pockets!!
truetexan
We as Americans should STOP deporting ANYONE who is here illegaly!!
Now, that is a pragmatic approach. Let's put more people into our already inflated prison system.
Thank god, Obama is smarter than you.
The solution should focus on reality. The reality is, illegal immigration happens.
The solution is to build a visitor work system that is simple and effective.
The Dream act is crazy. Think about it.
On paper Illegals are all poor as funk, because everything is under the table.
On paper, US Citizens and thier parents all show on paper how much they actually make, which is always more than...well, zero.
THERE IS ONLY SO MUCH FINANCIAL AID FOR COLLEGE AVAILABLE.
American Citizen children, whose parents pay the taxes, will be shut out of the financial aid that the taxes pay for.
Illegals children, who never pay federal income tax, will qualify much more easily than the children of American Citizens.
Can't everybody see the effects if the dream act is passed?
It will be further degrading the educational opportunities for Citizens children.
Anything we provide to Illegals is stolen from our children's future, including defecit spending to support programs they utilize.
Frankly, I've had enough of that already.
Alil Common Sense
If we don't have immigration, our country will fail because the only people we send to college are inbred Republicans that don't understand, that immigrants are what built this great country.
Spider, if the immigration laws were 'usually enforced' as you say then why have we had amnesty programs before, under Republican administrations? Please show some documentation where Democrats are using illegals as a source of voters (your words). And through all Obama's record of complete failures as you say how do you explain the number of deportations? This didn't start last week with an eye towards the upcoming elections. It looks like policy to me. Sorry Spider, every now and then I just get tired of reading nonsense someone throws up on a wall hoping it sticks.
@Lusitania
I am not sure what your point is. I make no claim not to be an immigrant. 94% of my blood lines go back to Europe, though my great grandmother was Cherokee. So, someone in my past got off a boat.
Since America has such a mixed culture of people from everywhere, who can rightfully point to another and tell them to go home? That is the point I am making. So, what exactly was your point?
JeffnMN..."Please show some documentation where Democrats are using illegals as a source of voters (your words)."
No illegals don't vote, but it is a well known fact that the majority Hispanics vote Democrat and the majority of illegals are Hispanic. So if illegals are given amnesty, then the Democrats will come out ahead.
Deportations under Bush and Obama combined don't even begin to put a dent in the problem. The deportations that do occur are for show, smoke and mirrors for the easily fooled.
You will know a politician is serious about the illegal alien problem when they start wholesale prosecution of those who hire them.
Will..."Since America has such a mixed culture of people from everywhere, who can rightfully point to another and tell them to go home?"
I will, and so do many Border Patrol and ICE agents every day. Why? Because it is against the law to be in the country illegally. Now if someone immigrated here legally, your are correct that no one would have any right to tell them to go home.
We can do it---sounds like the only inbreading comes from the left. You can teach ignorant people but you cant fix stupid.
@hs231 - Too bad the natives in Virginia were not as strict with their "immigration control". Same thing with the Native Americans out west who fought to defend their land from American expansionism, only to be killed or crowded onto reservations. What about the sovereign nation of Hawaii that was annexed by the US for sugar interests? Hawaiian natives are still pretty hot about that one.
At this point, it is sort of like the thief who steals from one person and then down the street gets robbed himself. He can complain about it if he wishes, but I don't think anyone would shed a tear about his plight.
However, I think we are looking at this from two separate standpoints. Yeah, from the narrow standpoint of here and now, the people who currently possess this land will work to enact some sensible rule of law. From a broader historical viewpoint though, I don't think anyone in the future will look back with pity on the plight of the United States being "invaded" by illegal immigrants when they themselves stole the land from someone else only a century before.
Also, many of the people who say they are upset about the illegal immigrants really don't like immigrants period. What would you say if a Puerto Rican family moved next door to you? Would you be upset? Would you quietly comment to your family that the neighborhood is going downhill now that the [insert slur] are taking over? Would you try to drive them out of the neighborhood? Would you consider moving to a new neighborhood yourself? I only ask because Puerto Rico is American soil and Puerto Ricans are not immigrants. Yet, most people who dislike "Mexican illegals" usually hate Puerto Ricans too, even though they are as American as you or I.
Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage, nee Weiner, Glen Beck, Jan Brewer, the list goes on and on and on and on. Sorry, there's not enough time or room to list all of them.
It will be quicker to list those who are NOT against brown skinned people.
Jeb Bush. George W. Bush. Ronald Reagan. Oh, wait. Reagan's dead.
Never mind.
Will...in the past humans invaded and "stole" land from other humans all over the globe. Against the same race and different races.
There were no immigration laws when the Europeans came to the Americas, and contrary to your implications, not all American Indians loathed their arrival. Many tribes welcomed them, especially for all the neat things the European culture had to offer. Yes, it backfired on them big-time. But that is history and has very little relevance to the issues of today, with the exception of allowing wholesale migration one culture into another does not result in a melting pot, but a salad bowl, with two cultures living side by side. Thus the term, Mexifornia.
I live in a community with many Hispanics and have Hispanic friends. I like immigrants. I don't like people entering our country illegally regardless of what country they're from or their race/ethnicity.
Big Al, I am a independent. But can no longer stand for what obama and soros are doing to our way of life in the USA. I believe in being a success in whatever you put your mind and energy into. I do not want to pay for people who refuse to work and live off the rest of us who work hard and own our business. To have that independence and not being taken away because someone is jealous of my success. Tired of how some women use abortion as a source of birth control. There are many things I can complain about, but msnbc will probably ban me for a week, if not more.
Republican politicians incite fear and hated of Latinos because it wins them the bigot vote.
Pure and simple.
Spencer, those are good questions that deserve to be answered, but, don't get your hopes up that they will get an answer here. Many would rather use these forums as a way to attack "the other party". So many are deeply rooted in the political rhetoric, that it's sickening. It's called get the first bash in before they do.
"Since when does breaking a law make a person except from that law?"
It doesn't make them exempt from any laws, even if you don't like that law, or think it's a bad law. A law is still a law. If you don't like such laws, get them changed, and learn to live with them until you do.
"How does a poor person from Mexico deserve head of the line citizenship privileges more than a poor person from Africa?"
They don't. It's funny, that we don't see people in a store trying to cut ahead of the line, because they feel that they are better than everyone else, and why is that? Because, we have learned to live with the first come first serve policy all of these years. So why shouldn't people who are trying to enter this country, no matter what status of life they are from?
"If a family squats in a foreclosed home, do the kids get to keep the house because they weren't the ones that broke in?"
Nope, I haven't seen that happen yet. Even if foreclosure is nothing but a farce today. You still have no right breaking any law. Learn to live with those laws and deal with them.

This is an article specifically concerning Latinos. Many of whom do not read or speak English.
And I just check your Code of Honor. NOWHERE does it say English only. NOWHERE.

Bless you !!! ( I hate sneezing when I'm typing )
If I was running for the presidency of the United States, I would rather lose an election than break the laws on immigration or any laws of the land as enacted by the constitution...
The laws of the Land on immigration should be upheld and not be subjected to arm-twisting by anybody.
We are all immigrants, LEGAL immigrants...everybody should follow suit, no buts, no if.
Any deviation from this is mockery of justice and scorn to those who drafted the laws of this country.
It is a slap in the face of those who do the right thing day in and day out...
The GOP has planned to install Senator Mark Rubio from Florida as the VP at the upcoming GOP convention and for months already...........and Romney himself is of Mexican descent.......the media really needs to try and keep up.
hmmmmmmmmmmm I don't know what your race is nor do I care. The issue is about LEGAL immigration. Those that come here illegally and hide for 10 years need to go back to whatever country they are from. They need to go to the back of the line and wait their turn. There are so many people in all countries waiting to come here, who keep having to wait longer and longer, why? Because a nitwit decided he was more important than anyone else and had to jump the line. Even Caesar Chavez was against line jumpers, he called illegal aliens from Mexico a stain on the country of Mexico. I have to agree with him! I do not believe that just because you live here you should have a voice in US government. You need to be a citizen first. You need to know that NO FLAG fly above or over the US flag. If you don't have one go buy one. I also believe that all TV stations should be broadcasting in English every single television show while they broadcast it in a foreign language. I further believe that learning English should be a requirement and it should be on the alien's dime not mine. ALL advertising should also be in English, not just Farsi, Spanish, German or whatever. ANY and all immigrants should have enough of their own money to last a minimum of 3 years and no welfare or social security dollars should be spent on any who have not earned it. IF you came here to provide us with yet another anchor baby, we keep the kid, you go back, no ifs ands or buts about it. Yes this is a political hot potato, but we can no longer afford to feed, house and medically treat the entire world. I have a lot of friends demoncrats and reflubicans alike and they all agree with this. You want to march? Go march against your own government, see how far that will get you. You want free everything? Go ask your home government for everything free. My door is now closed, as is my wallet.
The Party of No is alienating everyone except the 1% and the American Taliban.
JusBiden - He isn't of Mexican descent you .......never mind. His grandparents moved to Mexico to avoid the bitch slapping prosecution of polygamy. His father was an American born in Mexico because of it. That is it. Nothing more, nothing less. And you libs scoff the "birthers". Damned fool.
Did you mean thickness of their wallet. I don't see republicans "pandering" to anyone under the top 1%, except for hard core bible thumpers.
I do see and hear a lot of teabaggers and republicans telling everyone else how the state of the economy wasn't bad until Obama was elected, and that Bush had nothing to do with. Remember that whole "Deficits don't matter" line for Darth Cheney?? They also are on a rampage to tell people what they should and should not be doing in their own bedrooms, and most recently that women need to keep their hoo hoo's under control.

Never a day without one Republican lie after another, and another, and another.
Obama / Biden 2012
Not a lie, and as an American girl you should know it isn't, Now quit sippin Nancy Pelozi's drink and get yer head back up where it belongs. You are better than this!
Is that why Napotalino just released those 300,000 illegals who were vetted to get deported? How do all you libs like Obamas Amnesty for illegals (mostly Mexicans) 7/15/11, and the billions he handed over for their cheap/free college fund. The Dream Act he is passing to illegals one piece at a time. You dems really love this country. Vote for your Obama then quit complaining when he sells you out. ONCE WE LOSE AMERICA WE WILL NEVER GET IT BACK. All your ancestors work to get here is lost with Obama.
As far as Republicans, neither party has much to brag about, the system is broken.
Republican politicians stir up fear and hatred of Latinos and immigrants because it wins them the bigot vote.

Are Latino voters a missed 2012 opportunity for Republicans?
Not really.
Other than the Cubans and a small group of conservative religious voters, Latinos overwhelmingly vote Democaratic. Can't miss what you never had....
Are you quite certain? Latinos as a voting block are predominantly conservative in their political and religeous views. Why would you assume Latinos vote overwhelmingly for Democrats? That wouldn't be accurate.
http://www.usnews.com/opinion/articles/2011/08/05/dont-assume-the-hispanic-vote-is-a-democratic-lock
Excerpt: Close to a third of Latino voters always vote Republican—between 31-39 percent voted Republican in the past five presidential elections. This includes Latinos in Southwestern states like Arizona, and Texas.
A third won't cut it. Republicans need like half of Hispanics to vote Republican. Point is, Republicans aren't doing much to win them over. We've already seen what happened in Georgia with their draconian law.
http://georgiaimmigration.blogspot.com/
@JT
Even assuming 40% vote Republican (which is a generous estimate), that still leaves 60% voting Democratic. Obviously the overwhelming majority.
Eric..The Democrats are the ones who need the Hispanic and every other minority vote they can get.
Democrats who lost the white demographic: Humphrey in 1968; McGovern in 1972; Carter in 1976 and 1980; Mondale in 1984; Dukakis in 1988; Clinton in 1992 and 1996; Gore in 2000 and Obama 2008. That is right. Since 1964, no Democratic presidential candidate has won the white vote.
So, white votes are better or more important? What does that prove expect that whites tend to be right-wing extremists?
This partisan divide over race issues goes back to Richard Nixon and the Republican party’s “Southern Strategy,” which – using coded racial appeals and other methods -- helped keep the White House in Republican hands for 32 of the ensuing 44 years.
"using coded racial appeals" LOL!!!
So if Democrats go after the minority vote it A-OK, but if the Republicans go after it, it's because they're racist?
"So, white votes are better or more important?" Uh, no. It means if you can't win the largest demographic, your only hopes are to win the other demographics.
The GOP has done just about everything they can to drive out Hispanics, Blacks, women, gays, lesbians, atheist, main-stream Christians, Mormons, Moslems, and moderates. About all they have left are old, overweight, white haired, fundamentalist Christian whit guys and a few old, overweight, blue haired fundamentalist Christian white women.
I don't recall there being a rule that a candidate has to win the white vote in order to be elected....
Hi - legal latino's lean for the GOP while those with an anchor baby/were an anchor baby or here illegally always vote Democratic. Take away the handouts and whats appealing?
I'd also like to remind everyone that republicans have given more amnesty to latinos then democrats. Food for thought.
democRATS can keep the "Illegals"! NOTICE...the LAST word!
What's a Latino voter? One who will vote based on pandering to things like importing your poorer relatives (or letting those who managed to sneak in stay) or affirmative action and other preferential treatment.
I'm a Latina legal immigrant (and have no relatives in the US). I'm tired of this divisiveness along racial and ethnic lines. If you don't want to be treated as an American, equal in rights and privileges to every other American, then find yourself another country where that's the norm. The equality of rights and opportunity is what brought me to thsi country and if Latinos help destroy it, they are only hurting themselves.
NO, but it seems it's darn important to the democrats, to support illegals. It's not a matter of race or color. It's about entering this country LEGALLY. What part of that don't the democrats understand?? It's a real shame when a candidate, (obama) has to kiss the illegals butts to get reelected. OH, and have you all seen the ad. run by obama, where he talks only to blacks. He tells them that they , as blacks, have to vote for him, and only him. Now, if this isn't blatent racial commentary, I don't know what is. Let one of the republicans run an ad. for whites only, and watch the feces fly! Tit for tat, I say.
The Latino vote!?! How about the Gay vote? The African American vote? The non-Christian vote? The women's vote? The poor vote? The elderly vote? The Union vote?
I think at this point the only vote the Republican party has in the bag is the @!$%# vote. I just hope there aren't enough @!$%#-Americans to give this party any more power.
Hmmmm... A great historical perspective, Re-Elect Obama 2012. He is right on point The "Southern strategy" has been the downfall of the republican party and their stance as far as "minorities" go. It almost worked for Goldwater(another AZ looney) and worked for Tricky Dick.
Now the "spin" is to SAY treat all Americans equally. @Blanca Pez, you might want to pay attention to this point.... Saying and doing are two different things. (R) strategies and initiatives tend to exclude the minority and working class as a whole. Important issues like healthcare, immigration, voters rights, civil rights, are everyday problems to the underclass and (R) have no use or care for these issues as they rarely affect most higher income, elderly and poor whites. Why should they care? There is no "random immigration" check for them. There is no "DWB" for them. For them it doesn't even exist!! OF COURSE they see things differently
If the (R) REALLY wants to win back minority voters, the proof is in the pudding. Want to get rid of the NAACP and the CBC and affirmative action and quotas for women and minority quotas for college and all those other things "white" people complain about? Get THEMSELVES to the point where when you look at others you see a "person", not a black guy or someone pulling the race card or seeing "reverse discrimination" and "equal pay for equal work" excuses everywhere they look. THEY are the ones who have to make the change, for it is them who hold the aces in their hands. Minorities don't have the power to change society, THEY do. Any one who thinks 16-20% of a population can bring forth major changes in social attitudes is just....well frankly... NUTS!!! On second thought..... we'll just wait 75 years or so, then YOU will be the minority.......

The 3 Latinos still listening to Republicans are gay females... oh well. It's hard to keep track of the GOP "missed opportunities" (code for "exclusions"). It's easier to count the included ones, since the list narrows every day.
Actually, Republicans were making pretty good inroads in the Latino community. They were stressing their conservative views on sex, especially in abstinence and homosexuality. Bush 42 did fairly well with Latino voters. But then the Republicans needed a boogeyman for the 2006 elections and they had gone to the 'Gay Agenda' well once too often, so they turned to immigration. I'm sure they thought that the legal immigrants would resent the illegal immigrants. Unfortunately for them, it became common for conservatives to assume that anyone who looks kind-of Hispanic is an illegal immigrant. You only have to look at some of the comments here to see that. Considering that Hispanics are the fastest growing minority group in the US, this is short-sighted to say the least.
Blanca Pez Rocks--- thank you for not devolving into and accepting the base ethnic political pandering and rhetoric that is being thrown at you and the rest of us. Amercians across the spectrum (inlcuding this Democrat) WANT FOR OUR MOST GENEROUS IMMIGRATION LAWS IN THE WORLD ENFORCED!
The GOP has planned to install Senator Mark Rubio from Florida as the VP at the upcoming GOP convention and for months already...........and Romney himself is of Mexican descent.......the media really needs to try and keep up.
hs351: Republicans may have more of the white WORKING class vote, but Democrats have those with higher educations, and the majority of women of all incomes. You can't get there from here with a war on women, the elderly, the educated, Hispanics and minorities.
Rick that is funny as hell!
If the democrats weren't so positively repugnant with their incessant reaching into other's pockets perhaps more of those groups you listed would side with the libs. :D
People like you crack me up with your pseudo observations on the, as you see it, failing conservative party. Somehow fully half of the country still disagrees with the libs.
I am really surprised that after more than 75 years of Latino / Hispanic immigration, people talk about the Latino vote. The Latino/ Hispanic comunity is comprised of over 30 different nationalities, each one with its own background. Is like talking about the European vote in the 1930's, there was the Italian vote, the Polish vote, the Hassidick vote, the Sephardite vote and on, and on...today here is the same. Maybe the big masses that accept to be herded by the ACLU and cronins, yes, but the thinking, working, educated, and entrepreneurs Latino/ Hispanic which comprise over 45% of the possible votes are, as per the above article, more concerned with taxes and economy than inmigration issues. The issue of welfare nd obligatory healthe insurance is a more relevant topic than inmigration. They are already here, running either owned or employeed by someelse business that these measures are crippling. If you have to meet payroll next week, do you really think that the DREAM inmigration statute is inside the top 1000 issues in their heads? I don't know, but claimming conservative cubans as the only business oriented LAtin/ Hispanic is as shortsighted as claiming that the Republicans wil have not Latino Vote....
"If Obama can win 80 percent of minority voters nationally,"
And if Donkeys could fly..........
Get real. Obama got 67% of the Latino vote in 2008 after making all of those promises about 'comprehensive immigration reform' being his top priority. Since he totally ignored immigration reform in his first term, when the Democrats had both Houses of Congress (and a filibuster proof Senate), why would they increase their numbers dramatically now?
Besides, the Hispanic vote is concentrated in just a few states, few, if any, of which are key 'battleground States'.
Ironically, the social policies of the Hispanics is much more in line with Republicans than Democrats - especially on Abortion. Of course, the Democrats make more empty promises.
UnitedStates1776
If Legal Latinos want to succeed vote republican. If they want to be taken care of vote Democrat. It really is that simple! But remember their is a price to be taken care of like poverty, welfare dependency, high crime rates, bad schools, bad housing, bad health coverage, and lack of pride worst af all!

Bush, Fed, Europe Banks in $15 Trillion Fraud, All Documented
Veterans Today
By Gordon Duff, Senior Editor
———————-
Below is one of the strangest stories in financial history, one involving the US government lying about hundreds of thousands of tons of imaginary gold, illegal wire transfers and loans totalling $15 trillion. The video, from the House of Lords, is amazing in itself.
What it doesn’t express is where the money came from though Lord James of Blackheath proves conclusively that an effort was made to say it came from a gold reserve in Brunei that, in fact, never existed.
At surface, it appears we have stumbled upon the largest terrorist organization in the world and have found original documents tracing its funding to the Secretary of the Treasury and the Chairman of the Federal Reserve, two of the top financial officers in the US. A cursory review of terrorism statues in the US indicate that all transactions we will learn about are, in fact, to be assumed “terrorist money laundering” and that the only thing preventing the immediate arrest of hundreds of top financial officials is their political connections alone.
YouTube - Veterans Today -
We will be able to offer an alternative, more insights, some hard intelligence and some very valuable background that we hope will offer insightful and realistic perspectives on this amazing story.
On February 16, 2012, Lord James of Blackheath, member of Britain’s House of Lords presented evidence of an illegal scheme begun, he has thus discovered, in 2009. His documents including originals signed by Alan Greenspan and Timothy Geithner, show the illegal “off the books” transfer by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York of $15 trillion to, initially, HSBC (Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation) London and then to the Bank of Scotland.
The Bank of Scotland, under royal charter but restricted from involvement in any such transactions, simply “gave” the money to 20 European banks to use in a highly profitable scheme of co-trading “fresh cut” MTN’s (mid-term notes), generating trillions of dollars in profits over 3 years, none of which is shown on books, none has been taxed or has benefitted shareholders in those banks.
As Blackheath outlines, the “deception and cover” for this transfer is the imaginary seizure of 750,000 tons of gold by agents of an unspoken entity (confirmed by the highest official sources as the Bush family and CIA), the listed “source” of the money.
The government of Indonesia confirms this to be an utter fabrication and that the individual named had 700 tons of gold (about half of what Gaddafi was holding), not 750,000. It is noted that only 1,500 tons of gold have ever been traded in world history, as stated in the House of Lords.
The issues that are initially brought out, issues inconsistent with international convention and starting the reader on what is only the surface discovery of two decades of crimes involving dozens of governments are as follows:
WHERE DID THE MONEY COME FROM
There is no record of the Federal Reserve being authorized to “create” $15 trillion, equal to the entire national debt of the United States. There is, however, proof that funds that totalled, at one time, $27 trillion had been earned surreptitiously, disposed of as part of an intelligence operation against the Soviet Union and then later stolen with accusations made against George H. W. Bush as being the perpetrator.
I have spoken with two individuals, one President Reagan’s intelligence coordinator and the other Chief Legal Cousel for the Central Intelligence Agency regarding these funds. Both have indicated that former President Bush had asked that these funds, totalling $27 trillion, be transferred to his control, that threats were made by Bush and that many involved in this operation suffered, issues including murder, illegal arrest, torture and detention among them.
The individuals I am speaking of repreatedly met with President Bush over these funds, disputed his claim to them, and indicate that the majority of the funds are the property of the people of the United States.
These funds are the mysterious “Wanta” funds, monies earned through years of currency trading aimed at collapsing the Soviet Union, a plan originated by President Ronald Reagan, then White House Intelligence Coordinator Lee Wanta and CIA Director William Casey. I have been told that, while this operation went forward under President Reagan, he had ordered that his successor, George H. W. Bush not be “briefed” out of “mistrust” for Bush.
The funds themselves were earned through a scheme of trading Soviet roubles at enormous profit, a practice that eventually collapsed their government. A portion of the profits are subject to current litigation in the Federal Court of the Eastern District of Virginia, Judge Lee presiding. I have over 2,000 pages of documents on this case which shows a remainder of the original funds had been transferred to the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond by the Bank of China, a party to the rouble trading practice, in 2006 and is claimed as totally owned by Ameritrust Corporation. That amount was $4.5 trillion of which we hold the SWIFT transfer documents.
The other monies, which “likely” make up from the unspent portion of the missing $27 trillion, may well constitute all that is recoverable.
Wanta, sole shareholder in Ameritrust, has offered his companies share, valued by the court now at $7.2 trillion, entirely to the American people as intended by President Reagan.
The origin of the additional funds, issued by the Federal Reserve during the 80s and 90s, totalling nearly $8 trillion is unknown. High ranking sources within the US government indicate that this can only be either the remainder of funds Wanta raised or profits made from them after the majority of funds were stolen.
Stories, some quite good actually, and personal interviews plus my own review of documents would place the theft or conversion of these funds initially with:
What is lacking is a source for half of these funds. Technically, they don’t exist as there is no record of them being originated by nor transferred to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York though there are clear and discernible records of them being transferred out of that institution which never possessed them, according to their 2010 audit, in the first place.
WANTA MONEY
The transfer of Wanta funds, they can be assumed to have no other origin as they track into the Federal Reserve banking system while in escrow and are currently awaiting payment based on the orders of President Obama in accordance with findings of the federal court, is complicated by the Scottish transfer.
Either Wanta has claim to the entire amount or it is the property of the US government. That no effort has been made to secure the funds or enforce criminal and civil remedies to recover enough money to pay the entire US national debt and more, as with earnings, we are nearing well over $30 trillion by this time, is an indication that a criminal conspiracy with enough influence to overrule our own government is involved. Whether that “conspiracy is, as noted, the Bush family, rouge sections of the CIA or a secret society such as P2, one we can prove or others we only suspect exist, is another story.
The lack of action, here or as requested by Lord James in Britain, is, in itself, proof of both the seriousness and actuality of these events and the powers that can prevent any inquiry when irrefutable documents such as SWIFT transfers are available. In fact, Lord James has offered a wealth of documents which, when combined with the 2000 pages of Wanta “discovery” from the Federal Court, constitutes more than prima facia evidence of money laundering, conversion, terrorism or worse.
Thus, the inaction in the face of overwheming and unquestioned proof is inexplicable.
FLOOD OF WANTA LITIGATION AND INDICTMENTS COMING
Currently, Wanta’s legal status is as technical conservator and owner of $7.2 trillion. However, as nearly half that is owed in taxes and the court settlement required Wanta to purchase $1 trillion in treasury bonds, the federal government should show positive interest other than President Obama and a few others. More are being obstructionist with the payout and exercise of $3 trillion in US debt reduction.
This is, not only illegal but an indication of conspiracy.
In addition, Russian Prime Minister Putin has communicated that he awaits the agreed upon 3% payment of Russian taxes, initially on the $7.2 trillion. Will Putin want to be paid on the entire $15 trillion plus interest and will Russia and/or the US have interest in why the Bank of Scotland transferred these funds to 20 European banks to trade in MTN’s (mid term notes) without any authorization or agreement, any participation or sharing of profits.
As the funds, at least the half which the US government can claim ownership of, combined with the interest and earnings of, would quickly put the US “in the black,” again we look at, not just the press blackout on the Wanta litigation of the last 6 years but the press blackout on Lord James of Blackheath and the wealth of damning documentation he submitted to Parliament.
Nothing has been done since, it is as though the proof submitted was so dangerous that those moments in time have been erased by a mysterious g-dlike power.
What makes Wanta dangerous is that he has begun to distribute funds, some to government entities, counties and states, law enforcement agencies, giving them standing, not just in recovering funds intended for their use but in helping prosecute anyone involved in interfering with or attempting to divert funds.
One grand jury is being formed to investigate diversion of Wanta funds even at this early date. It is likely that Wanta/Ameritrust funds earmarked for border protection could lead to the indictment of high ranking US officials. This is only the beginning.
If the Royal Bank of Scotland doesn’t think it should be expecting the biggest chargeback in the history of the world, they are in for a shock.
Re-Elect Obama 2012 "Even assuming 40% vote Republican (which is a generous estimate), that still leaves 60% voting Democratic. Obviously the overwhelming majority."
An overwhelming majority of just a small segment of voters (8% in 2004, 9% in 2008).
Obama also got 63% of High School Dropouts, most of whom are still looking for those jobs Obama promised, so Whoop-de-do.
The biggest thing that Obama should worry about is the dramatic shift away from those who self-identify as Democrats. In 2008, Democrats had a 39%-32% advantage over Republicans, but now the Republicans have a 36%-32% advantage. That's a huge 11% shift away from the Democrats that will be extremely hard to overcome. Obama's advantage among Independents has also shown an even greater 17% shift away from Obama.
Here in Florida, most hispanics havd turned their back on Obama big time. I only know 4 people who are Tea Party members and 3 of them are hispanics. And not Cubans either who always vote GOP. Florida is firmly in the GOP camp this year regardless of who the GOP select.
Where is the "Forsaking the nation they were elected to represent a huge liability for Democrats" headline? Oh, right MSNBC doesn't deal in reality.
Let's hope so. I'd hate to think any large group would be so full of self-loathing that they would reward politicians who vilified them and scapegoated them for every problem known to man, including many imaginary ones.
Not that Democrats have been much better, but voting for Republican candidates in any large numbers (except for Cubans, for whom there are sensible immigration rules, markedly different from those that discriminate against all other Latinos) would be very much like African Americans voting in droves for Lester Maddux or Goerge Wallace back in the days of the fight over segregation.
The Republican Party has done everything possible to drive Latino voters away, everything possible to cater to and foment bigotry and fear and hate and mistrust, everything possible to make life difficult for Latinos.
The GOP will get a lot more Latino votes than they deserve, and it's too bad.
JT: Yes, Latinos tend to be on the conservative side; but they're not nutjob religious wackos like the rest of the GOP teabaggers who've commandeered the party. Latinos are willing to be persuaded, but not hoodwinked--just like most level-headed Americans who recognize lunacy when they see it.
The Mexicans will successfully conquer the United States and the Republicans will lose the 2012 election.
So what's the point of worrying about it?
This is the kind of mindless, bigoted crap that is destroying the Republican Party.
"Illegal" is the new n-word, thanks to the neo-Nazis who first thought it up and the GOP politicians who swallowed the Nazi crap that "immigrant equals Democrat" and "Latino equals immigrant".
NOBODY wants to be taken care of. It takes a collosal hypocrite to complain on the one hand that it should be against the law for any Latino to hold a job, and claim that all Latinos want to be 'taken care of by the government' on the other. "They're taking our jobs and they're all on welfare!"
This 'white' American is sick and tired of all the anti-immigrant, anti-Latino, anti-black, anti-Muslim, anti-gay, anti-teacher MALARKEY that seems to be the hallmark of the modern GOP.
Party of Lincoln my EYE.
"Whites tend to be right-wing extremists." -- What an utterly assinine and inflammatory statement. It's no wonder that those of us who aren't vested in extremist views are sick and tired of hearing them from both ends of the political spectrum.
TV, learn to summarize and post links or just be quiet.
That's pretty funny coming from you, angryelica, considering that every e-mail I've ever seen by you is an extremely insulting to Latinos in general and Latino immigrants in particular.
Your baseless hatred is bad for this country, and bad for you.
And the GOP continues its death march. A cycle repeated by conservatives many, many, times throughout history all over the world: after a period of great change (e.g; the 1960s) there's a backlash and the conservatives ride high for a while. But sooner or later they get so ossified and wed to their dogmas and tactics that they fail to adapt to changing conditions.
It is obviously suicidal for the long term health of any political party to not only write off non-Cuban Latinos, but go out of its way to tick them off like the GOP is doing. But GOP leaders don't know how to get away from those finger pointing and baiting tactics that worked so well and for so long for them - even when it becomes obvious that due to changed circumstances and demographics, they are now counterproductive in that they repel more people than they attract.
LackofCommonsense (#3.38)---
You never disappoint in your consistent attempts to spew your blatant LIES in order to promote your open borders agenda! THERE IS NO TIME WHERE I HAVE EVER SAID ANYTHING WHATSOVER THAT IS INSULTING TO LATINOS--- AND YOU CERATINLY CANNOT IDENTIFY ANYHTING THAT I HAVE SAID IN THAT REGARD! You are the one who is insulting them by implying they are a small-minded monolith who will not vote for any candidate that supports enforcement of our generous immigration laws--- I do not think and have never characterized Latinos that way (to the contrary)---- YOU HAVE!!!
This is just the latest example of the low brow, intellectually dishonest lengths that you will go to to portray those of us who want our most-generous-in-the-world laws enforced as "anti-Latino"--- your prespective in this regard only serves to further underscore my point which is that it is insulting to imply that Latinos will not vote for any candidate unless they promise/promote rewards for immigration lawbreaking! You insult them when you take this position. Disgusting!
I'm a voter of hispanic origin...I'm also a conservative...I was baptized Catholic but haven't been to church in a long time...I do consider myself a Christian though...whatever...I am planning to vote for anyone but Obama...his apparent ideology does not even closely resemble my own...I live in the state of Arizona and I support SB1070. I resent the President for placing American citizens interests secondary to those of illegal aliens. I resent the President for suing my state of Arizona for doing something he is not wanting and willing to do about illegal immigration and protecting our borders...we as people of hispanic heritage do not vote as one...there are many that think as I do. I resent that people that fit my hispanic description get lumped into one category. We are proud of who we are...we're Americans first.
Precisely Juanita-- thank you!
Commonsense, your hurting the brand name. Could you change to something more appropriate, like "spams any immigration related thread with pro Illegal immigrant stuff"?
The Dream act is crazy. Think about it.
On paper Illegals are all poor as funk, because everything is under the table.
On paper, US Citizens and thier parents all show on paper how much they actually make, which is always more than...well, zero.
THERE IS ONLY SO MUCH FINANCIAL AID FOR COLLEGE AVAILABLE.
American Citizen children, whose parents pay the taxes, will be shut out of the financial aid that the taxes pay for.
Illegals children, whose parents never pay federal income tax, will qualify much more easily than the children of American Citizens.
Can't everybody see the effects if the dream act is passed?
It will be further degrading the educational opportunities for Citizens children.
Anything we provide to Illegals is stolen from our children's future, including defecit spending to support programs they utilize.
Look at grades k-12. Each school district spends x amount per student, per year.
What percentage of the students are Illegal? 20%?
That means that without them being here, we could increase educational funding by 20% without spending ONE CENT MORE than we spend already.
They are stealing our children's future.
Frankly, I've had enough of that already.
Is stupid to think that the majority of Latinos support Obama because he support illegal immigration, WRONG , the support to illegal immigration is insulting to the people that come here legal after more than five years waiting to get their papers right. The Dream Act that provide legal status to children's of illegal immigrants ,is another stupid thing that will reward also to the parents , because their children's will claim their parents for their legal documentation. Most Latino are conservatives and do not support liberals social issues, that is prove in California a with a large Hispanic population oppose the Gay Marriage. So, the way to keep Latino votes in the plantation to keep the votes from, mostly Mexicans descendants, who are the only missed Latino voters for Republicans , who are the largest illegal population , Obama is sending people from Erick Holder office to fight against any Law that any State pass to control the illegal immigration, something that most Americans, Democrats , Republicans and independents are against. This is why Obama can't have an Immigration reform, because his views are agaist views of most Americans about immigration. Matter of fact Republican Presidents are the only ones that pass laws to help Immigrants and also Civil Rights.
The GOP is missing the mark PERIOD.
They have ostracized women, teachers, the poor, the old, the young, the Middle Class, unions, African Americans...oh yeah and Latino voters too...
Why would any Latino vote for a party that uses them (legal/illegal) as a whipping boy and red meat for the only outlet for their frustrations? We need someone to blame. We blame the President. We blame Latinos (at least where I come from) are all here illegally. Ask anyone. Not a one of them should be here. Ask my neighbors. They are taking jobs from hard working, patriotic Americans plus overloading our envy of the world healthcare industry.
What amazes me is this; as a group, I have never found harder working people. As a group I would find it hard to find a more tightly knit group of people. And what I absolutely know is this; they will work jobs that none of my neighbors would fathom doing. Yet, we sure don't want them hanging around.
What a farce, this whole country was founded on those that group together, work together come what may. We have a lot to "re-learn" from the Latino people.
Here's a clue for Hispanics.
The only Administration that has, or will pass immigration reform is a Republican President.
A Democratic President will always 'promise' immigration reform, but they will never actually 'deliver' it because it would drive too many Democrats away from their Party. By always 'promising' it but not actually doing it, they get to keep the Hispanic vote in their corner without consequences.
Angryelica:
1. I don't lie. You often do.
2. I don't promote open borders. I promote the very ideals on which this great nation was founded; free market economics; and Judeo-Christian morality.
3. I have seen over a hundred posts by yu, and I would not characterize ANY of them as NOT being insulting to Latinos. Not ONE.
4. I have never implied that Latinos are small-minded, or 'monolithic' in their political views. If you infer otherwise, it is only because of your own deficiencies when it comes to logic, reason, and critical thought.
5. If you read my post again, you will see that I lament the fact that too many Latinos will vote for any member of a political party that so often seeks to vilify ALL Latinos by association. It's not that I think the Democratic Party is much better, it's just that the Republican attitude is downright unAmerican and unChristian.
6. Your use of the word "generous" makes no sense whatsoever in the context in which you use it. It would make sense if immigrants were "given" 40 acres and a mule when they are naturalized, but the truth is that nothing is taken from anyone else and "given" to them. Just more hyperbolic hystrionics on your part.
lilsense: Your argument against the DREAM Act is ridiculous. Your claim that there are a fixed number of college degrees in the world and that if one American is allowed to attend college another will be forever deprived of a college education is inane.
And if you are so lacking in qualifications that the only way a university would accept you as a student is if the law prohibits others from attending because of their PARENTAGE, a college education would probably be wasted on you.
Maybe the Republican Party should come up with ideas like the president does...like his appointing a C-level hispanic actress like Eva Longoria to some nebulous campaign post to try to lure in more of the dummy vote...just knowing that annoucing this woman's new job will come with all the publicity photo-ops from celebrity-crazed "news" sources like MSN and Comcast.
NOcommonsense, here's what you wrote to me:
"lilsense: Your argument against the DREAM Act is ridiculous. Your claim that there are a fixed number of college degrees in the world and that if one American is allowed to attend college another will be forever deprived of a college education is inane.
And if you are so lacking in qualifications that the only way a university would accept you as a student is if the law prohibits others from attending because of their PARENTAGE, a college education would probably be wasted on you."
Man, you are so full of it. That is NOT WHAT I SAID AT ALL, as anyone with reading comprehension skills can see for themselves.
What I am saying is that there is a limited amount of financial aid available. There is a limited amount of educational funds available. Nobody said there is a limit on how many degrees there are. You just made that up.
The college financial aid goes to the poorest people first. That is the nature of financial aid.
The Dream act would grant that financial aid to the children of Illegals.
At the expense of Citizens children.
If there are only so many slices of the pie, anything you take away from it to give to Illegals leaves less for our own children. THIS IS OBVIOUS. Do I need to draw out mathematical examples for you, or can you grasp the concept of a limited resource?
As far as your nutbag qualifications/parentage argument,
A - It makes no sense whatsoever
B - You brought that up, not me.
Seriously dude, apply some objectivity and logic to your thinking.
Your opinions have no factual basis in the real world.
Look at how you read what I wrote and somehow in your mind it translated into something completely different!
most latinos i know are catholic...if that helps them any
Commonsense, you are by far the most ignorant blogger I have responded to by far! First of all you don't put words in my mouth, if you can comprehend a sentence that would be a start. My mother is a legal immigrant, who did not march in the streets to demand citizenship or expect America to change the language to accomadate her or go on food stamps the minute she got here. And by the way she is a republican. You obviously need help with the definition of illegal. I did not say latinos should not have jobs only illegal ones moron, and that goes to any illegal of any race. And I do believe all people who vote democrat think that government is their to take care of them. How are dem states like Ill and California the biggest panderer to illegals doing with thier budgets?
If it's "illegal rhetoric" that is preventing the vote for Republicans, then those Latinos who immigrated legally realize the brevity of the illegal issue, right?
Except its taking almost 10 years for someone from Mexico to legally immigrate to the U.S.
A path to citizenship is needed for these folks, and it appears Republicans are not up for that.
The path to citizenship has always been open to those who wish to go through the process, how are the Republicans hindering that?
The Republican sponsored anti-illegal immigration laws that are now being proposed also have the effect of discriminating against legal immigrants and natural born US Citizens who happen to be brown.
So once again the Republicans are mixing legal issues with ethnic/racial fear politics and Latinos in general don't appreciate it.
GOP policies hurt working class whites as much as anyone - ask Wisconsin - however GOP has mastered the art of appealing to racial and ethnic animosity.
Thats what provokes working class whites to vote GOP.
Re-Elect..thanks for calling anyone opposed to illegal immigration a racist. Now use the words nazi, hater and xenophobe in a comment and we can move on to intelligent debate.
Funny, I don't see the word 'racist" in my post. Maybe you should read it again.
@ScommaG
So Republicans are racists and Democrats are Marxists? Dems must be Marxists by using your logic as they are stiring up animosity between the haves and have-nots just like Lenin and Marx.
Re-Elect..."The Republican ... laws that are now being proposed also have the effect of discriminating against... US Citizens who happen to be brown." Perhaps you should review the definition of racism.
Most of us can read between the lines. Like Dream Act is code words for amnesty.
rac·ism
[rey-siz-uhm]
noun
1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.
3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.
Sounds like Republican legislation to me....
I still don't see the word "racist" in my post. Maybe you should read it again.
Obama is so lame the Latinos aren't going to vote for him..
Like the way the House looks?
the Senate and White House will be the same soon, no matter how much you believe your own BS
Re-elect Obama, I was going to vote for Obama, but when I read your posts, I can see that I would be in the wrong party. Thanks for opening my eyes.
My grandparents are hardcore dems... and racist as @!$%#.
Thanks MSNBC for onc again acknowledging that Latinos are the most racist people in America.
Most people vote for elected officials based on their perceived ability to do what is best for the future of the nation they are citizens of, as you have pointed out that is not the case for Latinos who are determined to vote according to special treatment for their own race, rather than the good of the nation or their fellow American citizens. Let the Democrats have them, losers deserve losers.
That's NOT TRUE for people from Latin America, the Philippines, India, China, any Caribean nation except Cuba, or people without a college degree (unless they are from Northern Europe).
It IS true for people from England, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, France, Germany, or Canada, whether they have a college degree or not.
NOBODY would skirt the rules to come here, if "the process" allowed them come here.
And THAT'S a big part of what is wrong with our current set of immigration rules, first passed in 1986 and made worse since then. The social engineers rigged the system to keep out the very people that our businesses DEMAND. THAT'S why the current set of rules has NEVER worked and never WILL work.
Prejudiced much, pj?
Because EVERYBODY wants to be called the i-word? Because EVERYBODY wants special laws that require only THEM to carry around legal papers everywhere they go? Because EVERYBODY wants schools to single out their children for harrassment? Because EVRYBODY wants their state to pass laws saying contracts with them don't have to be honored by the other party? But the Latinos WANT to be the only ones against whom such discrimination is applied?
Nobody's that stupid, pj.
Most of the xenophobic haters take their talking points directly or indirectly from organizations founded by Nazi-admirers like John Tanton. Such organization include the Center for Immigration Studies currently headed by Mark Krikorian, who manages to get himself quoted in a large number of articles by advocating against immigration of any kind.
John Tanton has gone on record saying that he would like the United States to adopt the "genetics" policies of Nazi Germany, and that he thinks opposition to immigration is a good way to 'improve' the gene pool in the United States. John Tanton's strategy for convincing Republican politicians is to get them to equate the word "immigrant" with "Democrat". [see http://www.splcenter.org/get-informed/intelligence-report/browse-all-issues/2008/winter/the-tanton-files and any of hundreds of other sources.]
And most of the anti-immigrant, anti-Latino comments I've seen made by the more strident xenophobic haters posting on this page can be traced back to those Nazi roots, whether the haters realize it or not (and most of them don't).
Except that "amnesty" implies that someone has a) done something wrong, and b) is forgiven without the imposition of any sort of penalty.
A. The DREAM Act applies only to people who have done nothing wrong. They were brought to the United States as children. No one with a criminal record is covered.
B. The American children covered by the DREAM Act would have to pay penalties and forced to do other things not required of other American children.
No one gets 'amnesty', nor is 'amnesty' a bad thing.
The DREAM Act would allow any child who moved to the United States more than five years ago to serve in the United States military and/or attend college and work while doing so, just like everyone else. Except the DREAM Act children would have to pay a fee no one else has to pay.
The DREAM Act would not provide any funds for those children to go to school, they would have to pay their own way, just like everyone else.
The DREAM Act would not guarantee acceptance of, or grant any special consideration to, any applicant by the military or institution of higher learning. These children would have to earn their acceptance, just like everyone else.
And the DREAM Act would not cost the American taxpayer a dime. In fct, the Government Accountability Office has determined that the DREAM Act would actually CUT THE DEFICIT.
More to the point, 'amnesty' is code word for "I hate Latinos and immigrants".
Kris Kobach, the author of Arizona SB 1070 and Alabama HR 56, lives in Kansas, and gets much of his funding from organizations tied to the Nazi Party, like FAIR (Federation for American Immigration Reform) founded by Nazi-admirer John Tanton.
SB 1070 was introduced to the Arizona Senate by Russell Pearce, who campaigned arm in arm with neo-Nazi J. T. Ready during his last successful election.
John Tanton is a xenophobe who thinks that Latinos, African Americans, and Asians are genetically inferior to pure blood Europeans, and therefore wants to eliminate ALL immigration, except that from northern Europe plus a handful of PhDs each year.
The Nazi-inspired philosophy is the handiwork of haters, who have managed to misinform and disinform large and vocal segments of the American public with their propaganda.
The GOP can't understand why poor/middle class whites can be tricked into voting for them but not poor/middle class hispanics.
boy....... is that the truth
The reason most of us poor middle class whites vote for conservatives is because the Dems are just for themselves..the rich
...if you can see the forest for the trees....
LOL - I love that comment. I quit being fooled by the second Bush term. 38 year Republican that will never vote for another Republican
Umm, that makes you a Democrat Keith ...NOT a Repulican.
BTW..try voting for the person instead of the party, this Nation would go a lot further.
Please get your head out of the sand. People are pissed with You Libs and the Right wingers too. proof is right here all you guys do is argue back and forth pointing fingers both sides need to STFU and listen to the middle, And the Middle ain't being treated right by the left either. We don't want Obama and we don't have a big enough following yet to bring in a third party candidate. But the day is coming as there is more to freedom than a two party system....a LOT more, and everything isn't black or white. Some things are grey. But it is quite evident that with all the destruction Obama has done their are left wingers who LOVE it! And think he is Gods Gift. When actually he was just another 1/2 white RICH MAN before becoming president. Funny how the blacks all want to shine his shoes. Give him knuckle bumbs and praise his name. When he has not done a thing for this country.
Really?
So, if someone won't vote Republican, that makes them a Democrat? I guess that that means that someone who won't vote Democrat is a Republican, right? (using your logic)
So how do you label those of us who won't vote for either side, justoneguy?
It must be terribly frustrating to venture through the world with your particular set of views.
Republicans are missing the oportunity because they are worry about
Aren't CONS-ervatives hysterical ?
__________________________— What happen to the 2008"slogan JOBS, JOBS, JOBS ?
Please, the Republican voters don't give a damn about the Latino voter or Hispanic community. Republicans attitudes about them is that the Latino's can go back across the border.
That is a narrow minded idea that has no substance.
marksman yes that would sum up the republicans
Republicans are trying to appeal to Latinos only on their traditional platform of God, Guns and Gays. They do not wish to recognize the unique perspective of the broader hispanic community.
Mark Rubio doesn't count.
The uber-conservative rhetoric says otherwise and Madman53 is spot on. That comment may have no substance in your mind, Marksman, but in the broader view....neo-cons, who highjacked our Republican party, have defined one of their boogey-men as Hispanics. And you are not helping to change that by dismissing the truth of it.
As opposed to do anything they can to get their vote, then screw them over anyway? I would like to know the amount of hispanic voters that are not legal citizens. This might put the problem more in the right light. Maybe if we had decent immigration laws to begin with, both parties could actually run for what they believe in instead of what will get/ keep them in office. Anyone who thinks this is a party problem needs to wake up. Never has the GOP said they don't want them here, they just seem more willing to take the tough step to actually do something to fix it. Stop the issue at it's source (illegal immigration) and this problem no longer exists. We should not want politicians that cater to who is most important at the time.
Only citizens have the right to vote.
Yes, Illegal Aliens should go back to their country of origin. Legal immigrants are welcome. That's what the Statue of Liberty is for, but it's not a "Free Lunch" sign.
DAUC..."Maybe if we had decent immigration laws to begin with..."
There is nothing wrong with laws already on the books. The problem is our elected officials refuse, except for few deportations here and there for show, to uphold their oath of office and enforce in those laws.
and the dems have done an equal amount of nothing...better start your meds now, the elections will be a shock to lefties
ILLEGALS, ILLEGALS, ILLEGALS!!! Do you understand what the word means? Why the heck should anyone support this?
verteran44, I agree wth you. Why is there even this discussion ? If it is illegal, it is illegal. May be we need a catalogue of laws, which we can break without worryng about repercussions. To let only illegal immigrants break the law is discrimination ! I wanna break some laws, too !
The answer is ZERO.
I challenge you, or anyone else, to come up with even one single instance of an unauthorized immigrant being convicted for voter fraud, anywhere in the United States, at any time in the last 20 years.
Just ONE.
Not a million or a thousand or a hundred. Not ten or five or even two.
Just ONE.
why would send back those mexicans back over the border would want to elect someone like that..oh sorry romney is half mexican..we can call him a whican
His father was a Mexican citizen but ethnically, they are all lily white.
funny how they spewed out all that hate and pipe down election day and expect Mexicans to vote for them...but wait until they go to Church the Catholic Church will tell them who to vote for...pro life people only
Would he be called hismormic, mortino, or morcano ?
Willard Romney is not half-Mexican. Romney's father, George W. Romney, was born to white American parents who lived in Mexico. He was 100% Caucasian. They were not Mexican, but they worked in the Mormon colonies in Mexico. He was a Governor of Michigan, and for a brief time was the front runner for the 1968 GOP nomination instead of Nixon. In 1968, it would have been pretty much unthinkable for a Mexican to run for the GOP presidential nomination.
As a side note, George Romney's failure to secure the nomination was due in part to his being an ineffective campaigner. Like father, like son?
If his parents mexican national..he is mexican..mexican is not a race .Just as if you were born in the U.S.
Mexico is a country..I've always wondered about some of the posters here but I refuse to argue with fools..it only brings me down to your level and I always fail to raise you up to mine
USEYOURMIND, I am humbled to be allowed to share this board with you. Now work on your capitalization and drop in a verb every now and then and everything will be glorious !
@Useyourmind
My dad was stationed in Okinawa, Japan where I was born. I am white...just white. Does that make me Japanese? I've always wondered about your posts.
Useyourmind-- your grammer is pathetic. Your punctuation is lousy ! How about coming up to a fifth grade level. Friggin tard.
hey lets call the homo republican sheriff from AZ who wants to deport and import Mexicans next to him
elvis payne, don't use gay slurs please. You are suspended for a day for violating rule # 5 of the Code of Honor.
Illegal immigration is a sticky issue no matter what your stance on the subject is. It leads to massive amounts of crimes ranging all the way from the mere fact that they are entering the country without permission all the way up to slavery and human trafficking. It is difficult to address all these issues with one blank statement.
The promise of the American way is a better life for anyone that wants to come to the United States. But that is not always easy and in a country with an ever growing number of enemies we do have to be careful of just who is slipping over our borders.
Immigration reform is not simply about who is let into the country it is also about how to bring people into the country safely and without overly disrupting the lives of those that are already here. Any reform is going to have tackle several major issues and do them all at once otherwise the changes will either seem to lenient or to harsh. Right now the situation in Arizona is getting bashed as being to harsh because their attempts to curtail the immigration issue are only dealing with one facet of the issue. Not the whole picture.
Don't forget ID Theft, that's a huge crime. I got nail once by a guy in NYC but caught it before my credit rating was trashed.
Well said. I would add that while Republicans are only addressing one part of the overall problem, the Democrats are also only addressing one part - as you put, "The promise of the American way" and ignoring the safety and economic concerns. It also brings to question how we could justify allowing massive amounts of people who have broken our laws to face no consequences. For example, many illegal immigrants are paid cash as laborers and contractors, so the only tax they pay is sales tax when they buy something at the store. If we pardon them and let them stay, shouldn't they owe back taxes as part of the deal? They enjoy infrastructure, hospitals, schools, etc. without being subject to the same taxes that U.S. citizens are. Democrats seem to argue that we shouldn't worry about that and focus solely on the compassionate "they are people too, and just want to provide for their families and live the American dream" argument.
I'm no fan of Obama, but I'm starting to believe the best thing for this country would be for the Senate to flip and Republicans control both houses of Congress, and...I can't believe I'm saying this...Obama win reelection. The last time we had much progress was when Republicans controlled the House and Senate with Clinton in the White House.
Right, but Clinton had the willingness to yield on many issues understanding the art of negotiating. Doing so earned him some respect and swayed votes his way on items too. President Obama on the other hand has constantly shown that his viewpoint on compromise is that he expects the GOP to concede and adapt to his desires.
The other downfall of your suggestion would be that the GOP would garner enough votes to potentially override Obama vetoes. That wouldn't play out well either.
Until BOTH parties learn to compromise, personally I feel the status quo is the best. I don't wish to see either party gain complete control.
They might be a threat if they were here in the country legally and could vote. However, most are not here legally and are not allowed to vote.
the problem is they are not picking oranges anymore ..they are getting hired in factories..taking American jobs..with low wages...that's the problem..corporations are the ones who have turn there back on us
Vegas if full of illegals and nothing is being done about it. My son installs granit & marble, the last company he worked for...he had trouble communicating with fellow workers, they ALL spoke Spanish, NO ENGLISH at all. We recently had our vents cleaned, the company sent out two workers to clean the vents, neither one spoke English, couldn't communicate with either one, told them to leave.
SEND THE ILLEGALS HOME, THEY ARE TAKING AMERICAN JOBS FROM AMERICAN CITIZENS!! IMPOSE 'HUGE' FINES FOR BUSINESSES WHO HIRE ILLEGALS!!!!
elvis - the problem isn't the Mexicans, it is the low paying jobs
@Keith-1952
Hate to tell you but you are wrong. Do you have any idea what a granite & marble installer makes?? The problem is with the ILLEGALS taking AMERICAN CITIZENS JOBS!!!!
sharriannie, how do you know they were illegal? did you ask them yourself how they came here?or is every brown skinned person an illegal to you? and have you ever thought that maybe illegals are taking these jobs from americans because they are better at it than you .
Keith, low paying jobs used to be for young teens, college students and very young adults. Now young teens, college students and young adults can not find jobs bc they are taken away by the undocumented. It's no wonder todays youth have no incentive or self respect! They cannot work at all. Low pay is not the issue, the lack of upper movement in the job society is the problem.
Railroader, did you ever stop and think that maybe they get the jobs, not bc they are better at them, but bc THEY ARE BROWN SKINNED. BC the govt' is protecting them and their so called rights to the extent that when faced with hiring a brown skinned women vs a white skinned women, they will choose the brown skinned women just to avoid getting sued! Have you ever seen a civil rights activist group protest a company who has mainly white employees? Its scary and now employers will do anything to avoid it, and that includes hiring the under-qualified before the qualified. It means hiring the non-english speaker over the english speaker. And if I had the right to name names of companies I have personally worked for who I have been in the position to counsel management on the hires, they always say, "we have to have a certain amount of minorities and its better to have too many than not enough." and I was in the position to ask for their identification and in the position of being asked to help them fill out their applications bc they did not read english. they would hand me a drivers license, dunno how they got that either, hand me a wic card, lonestar card and anything else but a S.S card or a greencard.
Texas Gal I live in Texas and have been a contractor for forty years. It has been over ten years since I have had a young white male ask me for a summer job.
Yup, my baby brother who is built like a 6 foot 8 rocket, went to a local contractor and got turned down bc he did not speak Spanish perfectly. He does speak spanish, just not conversational spanish. He was 18 in his last summer before his graduation year. He is still having trouble finding anything even minimum wage, he doesn't need lots of money, just gas money and some date night money.
How is getting a college education (not high school... i think the writer made a mistake) and risking your life in war defending this country not good enough accomplishments to winning citizenship in this country
Actually most Republicans (and Romney specifically, as noted in the story) support citizenship for those that serve in the military. They voted against the bill because of all the other stuff. For example (and I think the writer got it right), they had to have graduated high school and be enrolled in college. The specifics around how "enrolled" would be defined is what turned off a lot of Republicans. It wasn't very strict and would have been very easy to take advantage of and manipulate the system.
LosMan123, how is getting a college education AT OUR EXPENSE so that you can take jobs from OUR children a benefit to us?
The Dream Act that was before Congress in fall 2010 would have given 10-year work permits to 2.1 million illegal alien "children" (up to age 30!) for merely applying. No penalties for fraud. To get "permanent" status, they would have had to complete 2 years of college/vocational courses (no degree required and subsidized by the US taxpayer) or 2 years in the military. Now, you really think that these conditions are equivalent? Moreover, the bill allowed the President to waive even these minimal requirements and we've already seen how Obama is into NOT enforcing the law. Those who didn't complete the minimal requirements wouldn't have been deported and with work visas and SS numbers, it would be harder than ever to do so. Plus, the PARENTS who brought them here illegally would face no consequences and could even legalize once their kids did. Not even a pretense of enforcement in this bill, much less actual enforcement.
LosMan--and how is getting a college education at a cost that AMERICAN students are NOT allowed to get a solution, either?
IF so called dream kids are really good students, they can go back to the country their parents illegally dragged them here from, and apply for admission to college here. BUT, they would have to pay 'out of state' tuition. Just as all three of MY kids did when THEY went to schools that were out of state.
And LosMan--PLENTY of foreign students DO manage to pay for their own education.
If you came here illegally, you committed a criminal act. No doubt about it. If you got a college education, you should be able to tell quite easily that you broke the law. I don't understand what is so difficult about that : did you cross a river in order to get here or did you enter through a checkpoint ?
The most important question is this : why don't you work on electing competent leaders in your country instead of ours ? Don't you have any competent people ?
Lost opportunity for 2012? Try a lost opportunity for the next hundred years.
Any party that foments the kind of bigotry, hatred and slander directed toward an entire people, extending even to their infant children - is nothing less than the definition of a HATE GROUP.
have you notice they have pipe down with that saying
Even if we had star political candidates on the horizon, it would take the US several decades and presidents to get out of the mess it's in today. And we don't even have anybody coming up through the ranks that looks promising.
An entire "people" that thinks it has the right to violate the laws of this country and have that ignored and even rewarded sure hasn't assimilated to AMERICAN values, such as respect for the law and fair play. Illegal aliens are liars, cheats, line jumpers, and law breakers, no matter where they come from.
And that is a definition of dems..thank you
USEYOURMIND - still having problems with capitalization, eh ?
Tell me - who is that angry lady with the non-American flag in the picture. Why is she holding another country's flag ? Is she pretending that she did not know she crossed the borders ? What nerve to stand up in our country, demand privileges and wave another country's flag. How rude, how ignorant, how blatant. No other immigrant group has been this stupid.
Mathew not so Bright - "Any party that foments the kind of bigotry, hatred and slander directed toward an entire people, extending even to their infant children - is nothing less than the definition of a HATE GROUP."
And yet "rich" people are evil right?
Can you not wait to get your outstretched greedy hands on their children's inheritance money?
The difference between DEMOCRATS of today and DEMOCRATS at the turn of the century is they targeted blacks in support of the KKK and today they target the successful in support of leeches looking for handouts... the one constant is using HATE to attract feeble-minded, short-sighted, followers such as yourself.
This will be especially true if the Obama Administration succeeds in blocking any and all forms of voter identification.
Si Senior, I demand my right to vote!
I think all voters should be required to show proper identification! If you don't have it, you're hiding something!
And the police should be able to search your house and person without a warrant. If you have a problem with it, you're hiding something!
Clotho,
They now have the right to detain you indefinitely without due process due to President Obama signing the NDAA.
Especially since the articles that came out this month point out that one in EIGHT voter registrations have some kind of problem.
MY polling place requires the voter ID. I'd guess that 60 percent of our voters are over retirement age, and funny, they don't seem to have ANY problem coming up with that.
voter fraud is a BS issue, it is not real, it doesn't happen and your Fundamentalist, racist, bigoted, Representative wants to spend millions stopping something that doesn't happen.
Telling voter registrars to ask for identity does not cost a dime. Mine ask to see it and they know me, we are neighbors for heavens sake. It is common sense to verify you are who you say you are and that your are a registered voter and have the right to be one. I do not like the thought of someone being able to vote as me unless they are me!
And why wouldn't a people wishing to gain an edge in a nation, find a way to do it through voting? The dead after all are so many and when deaths are not watched closely enough, who is to say they can not keep voting? who is to say that someone stealing your identity while your alive , won't vote for you? If someone can get your bank acct. numbers, and your s.s and your date of birth, just to take your money, why not just vote for you as well?
Would you rather wait for it to HAPPEN before preventing it? 9-11 anyone? Sorry for the comparison folks but a point is a point.
what sad people is the poor mexican are just as bad as the whites..wait until they go to Church they will be told to vote for pro-life people only..if they don't it will be a sin..just look at Tx my home state
First of all Elvis, if you attend a church at all, which I seriously doubt, I would love to know which denomination because there is never any mention of which way to vote in my church. Which way any of our members vote is strictly up to them and their beliefs. I would almost bet you are an atheist by the comments you make regarding church.
Sin... hypocrisy...all the same thing. You can not call yourself a religious person under most any faiths and vote pro-choice.
Agnostic here and on the fence about pro-life/pro-choice!
If this were about the facts, the Hispanic vote wouldn't be jeopardized by the illegal immigration discussion. The fact is that in order to vote, you have to be a legal U.S. citizen. Whether non-citizens cast votes is an entirely different argument since all you need, at least in Texas, is a water bill for an address within the respective district as identification, but let's assume only U.S. citizens vote. No matter how extreme the Republican rhetoric is on illegal immigration, nothing they say is directed at U.S. citizens.
The problem is that Democrats spin the facts and inject race into the discussion to appeal to Hispanic voters. No reasonable person can argue with the fact that illegal immigrants overwhelmingly come from Mexico, so yes, the discussion is going to focus heavily on Mexico. The fact that Mexicans have "brown skin" makes it extremely easy for Democrats to twist a discussion about people that break our country's laws into a racially charged debate. If Republicans lose the Hispanic vote because of illegal immigration, it would be because the Democrats refuse to have a serious, objective, adult conversation about it and instead continue their race baiting and fear mongering. If I was Hispanic, I'd be offended by Democrats' efforts to insult my intelligence and scare me into voting for them.
Mike..."Democrats refuse to have a serious, objective, adult conversation about it and instead continue their race baiting and fear mongering."
No inspiration like desperation.
Of course,,,,Thats why at the moment Republicans are pushing for all Drivers license exams, ID applications, and Citizenship exams to be in English only, hahahaha
Regardless of how "official" it is, English is the most spoken language in the U.S. by far, and I don't know that it's all that wrong to expect citizens of this country to be able to reasonably communicate in English.
As far as the driver's license exam, I think that one is particularly important. Other than the fairly universal stop sign, light, and speed limit sign, many informational/instructional and pretty much all street signs are in English. I don't want people on the road that only know how fast they can go and red means stop.
Speaking English is a big problem for those saying put the illegal alien children in the military and then give them citizenship. If you can't speak English, you can't serve in the military.
Requiring anyone to speak, read, or write English to get a drivers license, ID, or citizenship when it is not even the "official" language in the USA is nothing more than attempting to suppress LEGAL votes the GOP knows will more than likely go to Democratic candidates, There are many native Americans who do not speak English let alone immigrants
Bo, you do realize, don't you, that for an immigrant to this country to naturalize, he must show his proficiency in ENGLISH?
"Immigrants" aren't eligible to vote. And if native-born Americans aren't able to speak English, why would we want them to vote, since that means that they can't communicate with other Americans, much less understand issues. Note that a court recently upheld the right of a community to prevent a woman (born here, raised in Mexico) who didn't speak English well from running for public office.
Bo - "Requiring anyone to speak, read, or write English to get a drivers license"
And yet the bill Obama signed allowing Mexican truckers to operate on U.S. highways requires them to be proficient in English... why do you think that is? Maybe you should take a drive in China sometime and see if you can figure it out.
They MUST fight mandatory prenatal care that might create more abortions!!!!
They MUST pass State mandatory prenatal care in order to avoid abortions!!!!
Why you taxpayers no wanna pay for me and my muchachas, Senor? Por favor?
My Texas roots are deep and my views are conservative. Having seen and experienced bigotry in my lifetime against me and many friends, I take great exception to being singled out for my name, looks or background. Because my parents were strong and raised us to never back down and stand for the person who is down or is being persecuted, I am who I am and proud of it. My political leanings are now Independent but leaning Democratic for just the reasons outlined in this piece. Make no mistake, the TEA party has attained greater control locally and at the state level by getting involved and going to meetings and voicing their opinions. This is my fear that the TEA party has made inroads and has attained greater control locally and at the state level by getting involved, going to meetings and voicing their skewed issues to the forefront. When Ron Paul stated it would be too expensive to give young illegal immigrants legal residency through the Dream Act, I became more Democratic. And Romney's hard line on illegal immigration was revealed, I took great offense as this man's family is from Mexico and of Mexican descent. There is a history of immigrant abuses in the Southwest and those memories have not faded. There is nothing wrong with limited government, as i relate to that, but what further aggravates me is the attitude Romney has paying just 13.% taxes on his $21.7 million in 2010. Romney paid a lower tax rate than someone who earns $50,000 a year. That is definitely wrong! We do not need bible-thumping radicals telling us how to live our lives. We do not need someone who would let America's auto industry falter so he could go in, bastardize it, sell off the good parts for a profit, fire employees and turn the rest for more money in his pockets on which he would pay minimal taxes. We do need retreads with baggage taking us back to the 1950's. And we do not need isolationist who would do away with all America has in place now.
No Rudy, you are wrong. He did not pay a lower rate of taxes than someone earning $50k. That person paid less than 10% and probably way less.
And it sounds like you are fine with the illegals....as long as YOU don't pay..... I guess 45% of the tax filers don't pay........you must be one of them....
Jello heads!
@Rudy
So Romney pays more in taxes in every year than you will earn in a lifetime... seems fare to me.
We don't need a different political party saying "The government is your Father and your Mother. Just do what we say and it will be OK". Get a backbone and live your life without government interference.
Rudy I am from Texas and have a few Spanish surnames in my list of ancestors since we have been here since the 1700's. People that haven't lived it don't understand it but discrimination is real and this recent bigoted rhetoric being spouted by the Republicans and any ignorant redneck they can get to join them is dangerous. The politicians are using the issue to stir people up for votes. They never tell the people the truth is that they created the problem in the first place. NAFTA caused massive job losses in Mexico and drove many here. The immigration system doesn't work so their assertion that there is a legal path to immigration is a lie. I deal with it yearly because I am one of the good guys and my workers all have visas but I do know that there have been times that friends couldn't get a visa for a vacation because of our screwed up system. My Canadian friends can get a visa in two weeks.
Keith. Please don't blame the invasion of America by 13 million Mexican criminals on NAFTA. Job losses in Mexico didn't drive anybody here.
You sound like someone who leans "democratic", expressing that same measure of ignorance we have come to expect from those who really do not understand the enforcement of u.s. law except in the context of persecution of a minority. first - we must all understand that if there is a profile of illegals being latino, it is the latinos who created the profile. overwhelming abuse of our laws, courtesy and generosity has led to millions and millions of illegals from Mexico and other nations south of the border. there is no reason why hispanic citizens of this nation should protect and coddle their illegal cousins except to say that blood runs thicker than their national loyalties. this has been a huge error. it is not a matter of the Republicans missing the hispanic vote, but a matter of the hispanics missing a great opportunity to show they are Americans and not Mexicans, etc. Secondly, Mitt Romney's family were always American citizens...they settled in Mexico as Americans and they returned to America as Americans. Their history in this nation goes way back.
I am as my name suggest from Texas as well, born, raised and raising little Texans. And I am white as the bread, (with a good dollop of native american Indian thrown in), I however hate to see a white person abusing our system and want nothing more than to ring the neck of a person I see using their food stamp and lonestar card out of their coach hand bag while checking out at the grocery store, wearing their $200 shoes, diamond studded earrings and getting into their brand new pimped out Cadillac SUV, then going and picking up their kids from daycare and paying with a taxpayer funded card. The abuse of our system is disgusting, but you go after the legal abusers AFTER you get rid of the illegal abusers. One step at a time. White, black, mexican or otherwise, the abuse must stop and the buck stops at the border, so we can atleast stop terrorist from coming over and killing everybody, that everybody includes the hispanic community.
WFC1957 - You are wrong, many high labor jobs in Mexico were eliminated because the locals couldn't compete with the large producers of poultry, hogs and cattle.
And, what do we blame the 9 million other illegal immigrants on?
I don't get how they're a missed opportunity? Let the GOP and DEMS state their stances, and let the people decide who they want.
Liberals have a difficult time understanding anyone running for election based on merit rather than pandering for votes using racism and promises of "free" handouts; that is why it appears to them as a "missed oppourtunity".... just turn your back on America and lower yourself to paying racial groups for their votes... it's good enough for us Democrats.
The repubs not only have lost the Latino vote, they also lost or will loose the votes of everyone who doesn't strictly follow the teabagger line of stupidity, lunacy, satanism, hate, bigotry, anti-equality, fear, lies and deception, destruction of the middle class and unions.
With all the baffoonery & bickering the GOP candidates are smearing all over the place instead of telling us what plans they will implement to raise this country up, I would win if I ran.
No...... you wouldn't.............
Not likely
for hispanics, b.o. has been the worse president ever. wiht massive deportations and splitting up families is shameful.
Not for all Hispanics. For illegals maybe...those are the risks when you break the law.
FX Lozano--as bad a president as B. Obama has been for hispanics, he has been WORSE for his fellow BLACKS. Because MANY of the jobs illegals take are jobs Black young folks used to do.
And you DO know that most of BO's 'mass deportations' are those who got stopped at the border before even making it in? (a new way of counting deportations).
He's not shutting down businesses that employ illegals any more than Shrub did.
Why does Obama get blamed for AZ's policies and practices??
Janis: You must not have heard that the federal gov't is suing the state of AZ over SB1070...so, the citizens of AZ, including myself, have plenty of resentment for our President. All our law does is mirror the federal immigration laws. So, that's why he's getting blamed. SB1070 will be reviewed by the Supreme Court within the next couple of months...so stay tuned...now you're educated on the subject.
F.X. Lozano
That's the one thing I like that Obama has done. Whomever has the toughest stance against illegal immigration will win my vote.
Deport all illegal immigrants now.
Close the border to Mexico now.
The major missed opportunity for the GOP is MUSLIMS! Family-oriented, hard working, morally conservative, faith-based. There are lots of Muslims that are part of America beyond the first generation, and the VAST majority of Muslim immigrants are moderates looking for peace and the American dream. Embracing this group would be the swiftest way to marginalize the radicals, give moderates something to fight for for their families, and dare I say it, bring peace. And you may even win an election. (No, I'm not Muslim, but I have interacted with many at school and work)
No kidding. One of the hidden stories about the pro-life issue is that Muslims make up a significant portion of these groups on college campuses.
if you are illegal you cant vote here in lex ky 10 to12 hispanics nabbed had almost two millon cash 3000 lbs mary jane this is what usa gets for letting them come here get these trash bags out of here so they will ouit draining the tax payers
Any legal Hispanic immigrant who thinks illegal ones should have the same rights and opportunities as they have is foolish and should be ignored.....the majority of the rest of America does not believe in amnesty for anyone here illegally...
The GOP isn't just after illegals, Any minority is a target at this point
...and you believe this because.......
That's ridiculous Bo. Many citizens are concerned about our economy recovering and getting people jobs. If we keep letting illegals in we will never recover because job creation can not keep up with the influx of immigrants. It has nothing to do with race but with getting the unemployment rate back down and getting legal citizens working again.
LOL, Denial doesn't help, It is becoming quite open and obvious Republicans want to suppress ALL minority votes
No person who has been illegal should ever be allowed to be in this country again. How is enforcing our laws being "against brown people"?
The latino voting block should be against dream acts of any kind. Why would you want to reward those that come here the wrong way? Latino voters are Americans. No American should support illegals.
...too bad you cannot site any examples....
@Bo-1925019
You couldn't be more wrong. Asian-Americans actually the most likely minority group to consider Republicans, especially recent immigrants (Chinese, Koreans, & Vietnamese) who have experienced first-hand the economic heavy handedness of over-regulation by an atheist government.
(In case msnbc doesn't post my link, just search for "asian" "consider" "republican" "la times")
Hey BO1925019 you're supposed to share..not bogart..puff puff pass..remember ?
