Subscribe to RSSEAST MACHIAS, Maine -- Ron Paul has gained 83 votes on Mitt Romney following a Republican presidential caucus in eastern Maine, where voting last week had been postponed due to bad weather. Romney still holds a 156-vote lead over Paul in statewide totals.
Paul received 163 votes in Saturday's Washington County caucus, where Republicans from more than two dozen towns gathered to cast their votes. Romney received 80 votes. Rick Santorum got 57 votes and Newt Gingrich received four votes.
The Maine Republican Party last week declared Romney the winner of the state's GOP caucuses, but Washington County Republicans were angered their votes weren't counted after their caucus was postponed last Saturday because of a snowstorm.
County Chairman Chris Gardner says the state party should include the caucus tally in the final results.
The Republican State Committee will consider the request next month.

Why forget Ron Paul? Then you might want to forget some of us independents who lean Democrat, but think Obama is another 4 more years of Bush, (isn't 12 years of failed policies enough?). But I can tell you I will not vote for whacked out Bible Thumpers, hell bent on taking us back 500 years in the past. So it's your call Republicans, 4 more years of Obama, or someone we feel could lead us in a TRULY different direction, for the betterment of ALL in America.

I voted for Obama in 2008 and will vote for Ron Paul in 2012. Why? While I might not agree with everything Ron Paul believes (what two people do?) I agree with his stance on the important issues. First among them is personal rights and freedoms. Obama and the democrats will never be able to rationalize the NDAA and the "Fast and Furious" debacle to me.

Basically, if this country gets back on track with the constitution everything else will fall into place. Sorry RevMum but I disagree with you. FIrst off thiere is no way that Romney, Santorum or Gingrich will ever beat Obama. In order to do that they would have to show a more moderate agenda which up to this point they have failed at miserably. Second, In order to win the election you have to have the support of the independent votes and adding some of those that voted for Obama last election will guarantee the win. The only one that will accomplish this is Ron Paul. So go ahead and continue to back a loser. None of the other GOP candidates can deliver the votes that are required to put them over the top.

Ron Paul beats them both in favorability, according to CNN, and also beats them both head to head against Obama.
Considering Ron Paul is the only candidate without billionaires backing him, just regular people, he's doing rather well.
Also, if you disregard the straw poll beauty contests, in probable delegates Ron Paul is very close to Romney's 93. (Since caucus state delegates are not bound in the same way primary state delegates are)

To be anywhere in grasp of this lead could be considered groundbreaking for Ron Paul, given his complete media disownment. Make a choice for yourselves, people. Ron Paul is pushing LESS military spending, DENOUNCING the conflicts in the Middle East (just as he has since the Clinton Administration), and ADVOCATING the rights of our state governments, just as our Constitution intended.

After watching this dog and pony show not just in Maine but all across the country it becomes obvious that the reason they drove the country off a cliff is because their just as incompetent when it comes to governing. Why anyone would vote for a politician running under the Republican Party banner is beyond me. Greed, bigotry, religious dogma and homophobia have all managed to transform the GOP into an entity that no longer is representative of 21st century America.
Despite the best efforts of the republican party, if Ron Paul is not on the ticket they will loose the election again. I myself am an independent and vote for who I think will do the best jobs knowing full well that "Everyone Lies" - House.
That being said, Obama the first president that everything he does seems to be unprecedented. Perhaps that is a reason for that. As of right now, Paul is the only candidate I will be voting for!!!

Why would a snow storm in Maine be a good excuse for not counting all the votes. They were counted where submitted and then phoned in. Exactly how would a snow storm hamper this process?
I still find it strange that Republicans continue to flirt with a candidate who is not even a Republican. Sen. Paul (since he does not have an earned doctorate, Paul should only be referred to as "Dr." in the immediate context of medicine according to the etiquette book. Self-referential use of "Dr." is claiming to have a PhD or an earned equivalent such as an EdD.) The Pauls (Rand Paul is the "designated heir apparent" to the Libertarian Party leadership) have some very strange beliefs. Anyone considering voting for either should first read the Libertarian Party Platform. ( www.lp.org/platform ) Paul is nothing more that a modern-day anarchist with a populist spin.

Can you name even one thing that Pres. Obama has done that was "unprecedented?" Considering that he is very much a middle-of-the-road moderate, I haven't run across one personally. Even Truman had his mother-in-law living with him in the White House.

As far as your Doctor usage, not sure I see your point. He was a practicing OB-GYN, so he's certainly a real doctor. He also served as a navy flight surgeon.
Obama is unprecendented in many ways. Extending the patriot act and even beefing it up. The NDAA. Continuing to train the seasmurfs in civilian crowd suppression (CCRMF's started under Bush) Did you know the NDAA also explicitly repeals the Posse Comitatus? So Romney had a 194 vote lead, then Ron Paul gained 83 votes on Romney yet Ron Paul is still behind by 164 votes?? Now maybe my math is wrong here but last time I checked 194 - 83 = 111 not 164. Now if only they would count the votes in the other two counties they threw away along with the numerous counties that mysteriously had just Ron Paul's votes missing yet no one elses.
The "party" said that portland numbers were reversed and they calculated that in, but supposedly might count Washington County.
It seems that people only read the part of the story they want to read, Paul was not the only person to pick up votes today, Romney also picked up 80 more votes, santorum 57 and newt got 4
But they originally said Romney won Portland, so if the numbers were reversed then that would give Ron Paul even more votes. Right? And deprogrammer the 83 is the GAIN Ron Paul made. Ron Paul got 163 more votes today, Romney got 80 more votes, that means Ron Paul GAINED 83 on Romney.
So we find that the associated press does math and writes as well equally...no pun intended

The GOP is up to no good just ask those of us, with a conscience, that have sat in on our County GOP meetings since 11/11. They've already picked their man and will stop at nothing, even failed attempts to fix primaries and caucuses, to put him in power. I have said for 20 years that I am a republican without a party as the party no longer has ethics or represents my beliefs, these recent events have just solidified it.

I once lived in a small town of 300 people in Colorado. We had an election for mayor, and one guy won. they recounted the votes four times and every time they had a different number! How does that happen? Can't people count to about 100? I am still confused about this, a different guy won, they recounted again and he still won, but by a different count. I think these small towns are crazy and change votes or something.

NOW I understand how the 2000 national vote for POTUS got so screwed up, thanks to Republican-dominated Florida. Your memory is a little defective. The Democrats wanted the re-count, but only in selected counties (Dade and Broward). The Republicans wanted either all the state or none of it re-counted.
I think both parties underestimate the impact of Dr Paul. I for one will not support another, and I think that is true for most of his supporters.
Some people wonder why I and many of the youth in America support Dr Ron Paul so strongly. I disagree that it is only the youth that supports him.I won't speak for the youth, but I find it offensive when some pundits claim that the youth only wants legalized drugs, portraying them as loser potheads, but what I do see is an entire generation that is going to be expected to pay for mistakes of everyone that came before them, have no stake in the game, and in the end, not receive any benefit as the country moves toward bankruptcy. They are also being sent off to wars when they have no hand in creating the policies that promote them. Every person who has voted in the past must share responsibility for the state of the country, and if older generations stopped voting out of protectionism, and realized that their selfish interests are forever negatively affecting their offspring's future, I believe they would be voting for Mr Paul also.
As I see it, a vote for Mr Paul is a vote against everything Washington has become. Corrupt and bought. A vote for Obama is the same as we have and a vote for Mr Romney or others would be just another vote for status quo Republican dogma.I also believe most of Congress should be going home also. I personally am starting by not voting for anyone that supported the National Defense Authorization Act because it undermines 300 million Americans rights guaranteed by the Constitution. Beyond that it states that no one in the world is safe from indefinite detention by the US government.
People tend to forget approval ratings nearing zero for Congress and dropping consistently for the President. Money is so intertwined in politics, that the status quo won't change until it is either shoved down politicians throats or the politicians are sent home, being replaced by true representatives.
I have 3 children that are about to enter college and the workforce, and if there is anything I can do to keep them from spending a lifetime paying taxes to support elitists and have nothing to show for it in the end, I will do.
"Arab Spring" is a revolution brought on by the youth in Africa and the middle east and I believe it is teaching, at least our youth what freedom and democracy should mean. To all those that argue that Dr Paul is unelectable, I have to question your motives and have to wonder what you are protecting. I believe we are on the verge of an "American Spring" and I think it should be a reminder to those that propose to rule us that in the Constitution it is us as citizens that are supposed to rule them. Something they forgot long ago.

I check the Ron Paul site almost every day to get the truth and only come to main stream sites like this to see how the dumb-down program is working. Nothing sensational on this site to indicate that something sinister has been done in Main. Lying about the most important activity any nation can be involved in. I never play cards because if a cheater shows up it is harder to catch him then not. Voting is a completely different game, but the cheaters still show up. The cancer is so obvious it truly is not funny. This article is a perfect example of how the mainstream continues to deceit it's loyal readers. You can bet that if an irregularity had impacted the Romney campaign the headlines would have been quite different. The defusing would have been a lot less subtle.
I am excited about the involvement of the young people in this country. I am sixty seven years old. I am a registered Democrat about to go Blue Republican. I know if you are already for Ron Paul it is frustrating seeing people not see the truth around them and still grasp at the status quo. But we most keep the message of liberty positive as it is a positive message to begin with. We strive to live in a society where no one is favored and hard work is rewarded and charity comes from community not government. Until the status quo voters see this, negativity and insults will just further divide us because we are all looking for a higher grade of life. (one the government will never provide)

Grand Old Party was Lincoln's party. The Republicans have turned into Vulture Capitalists. There's nothing wrong with capitalism but its excessiveness at the cost of the weaker in society will be there downfall.
Everyone talks trash about how Obama and Congress hasn't done anything in the last 3 years. Guess what!!!! Both have problems Obama has no experience, lack of listening to the people, needs to establish a way around the constitution, and has spent more in 3years than all other presidents combined. Congress is stalemate. House has Republican control, Senate is Democrat controlled. Everyone, Obama and Congress wants bigger government and more control over our lives. Last bit o crap from this Administration was controlling what parents put in their school children lunches. Give me a break. Vote for Dr. Paul is a vote for REAL change. Lets take back our country!!!!
Ron Paul is the only honest politician running from either party and this makes him the only one I could cast my vote for! Obama is a proven multiple liar as is Romney. Gingrich lies even more than Obama but it's close. Santorum is just barely dishonest but still, he is dishonest. That leaves Paul.
Check the records folks. There really is no other choice if you want someone who will lead in the best interest of all of the people. The rest will lead in the best interest of their respective parties. For once, I'd like to see someone in the Whitehouse who wants what is best for ALL of the people and would be willing to tell both parties to get lost. Think how nice it would be to have a leader who ALWAYS put the people rather than the party first. I haven't seen that in my 65 year lifespan and I sure would like to see it before I'm looking at the wrong side of the grass.
A perfect storm is brewing now. Goldman-Sachs created derivatives have ballooned to levels beyond comprehension. There is so much money involved that the political system is completely corrupt. Ron Paul is the best hope for freedom and liberty.
Ron Paul has attracted a lot of dreamers. America is adverse to rapid and radical change BY DESIGN. Thats why we have been around for nearly 250 years! Ron Paul will never get anywhere with his radical reversion to the bad old days--it ain't going to work, you can't turn back the hands of time.

We were founded on radical change. And the direction we have been going is not sustainable.
I really like Ron Paul. Problem is, I don't agree with some of his far out ideology. Having said that, He's the only republikan I could see myself EVER voting for. Romney is a nitwit and has no conception of what it's like to NOT be rich and pampered. Gingrich is about as ethical as a rattlesnake and will do nothing to line his own pockets at public expense plus - he got fired from his speaker job for being unethical by the biggest bunch of crooks there is. Santorum is just a mean-spirited bastard who only cares about his personal beliefs and would foist them on everyone.
The only sensible candidate is really Buddy Roehmer but he has no chance at all. He complained that, during the Iowa caucus, a dead guy beat him in the polls.
However, this is all a smoke screen. Wait until they 'draft' Jeb Bush at their little convention. It's already a done deal. Yup, that's what America needs - another four years of Bush/

Who grees with everything someone else says? What is it you don't agree with Ron Paul about, and how big a deal is it in the big picture? What about the things that matter? What about our BASIC freedoms? What about the NDAA?
I dont necessarily agree with everything Ron Paul says or thinks but you must admit that at least he is honest and his voting record proves that he does indeed stay within the bounds of the constitution. And as much as the nation as a whole desperately needs at least one honest politician in a position of power the puppet masters will never allow that to happen. But it is just as well for if he somehow did manage to pull it off the poor guy probably wouldn't live long enough to be sworn in to office, and that people is what's probably the closest thing to the honest truth imo that you will ever hear.
Ron Paul may be honest and believe everything he says; that doesn't mean he is right. The world has changed in the past 200 years, we aren't the small, agrarian country Jefferson wanted. We have to adapt to the changed world.

It is funny how that old saying "there are no Atheist in Fox holes" proves to be true so many times. At the beginning of this blog many posters were saying they didn't want Romney or Santorum because they were Bible thumpers. Forget religion, that's for you personally and each individual to decide for themselves. We need a president that will follow the Constitution, a basic set of rules, that will give us breathing room to fix the mess we are in and point out the problem areas much easier. It might also keep us from needlessly fighting pointless wars, like you unfortunately had to and focus on rebuilding this country to be "truly" great. There's a difference between something being called great and actually being great. We as a country have not had a taste of true greatness in quite some time. Let us join and make it happen!

I agree with a previous poster that stated it appeared that a fix was in with a bias towards Romney. I believe that the two candidates have already been picked for the two parties by the one ruling party. Anyway, if Mitt wins, I will not vote or will vote for the liberal Obama as a viable protest. Constitutionalist/conservative or nothing.
How does Paul gain ground on magic underwear romney, when he beat him fair and square. And the answer is,......the scab republicans running the show in Maine, don't believe in democracy either. They would pull whatever underhanded, dirty low down, moves they have to, so they can please their puppet masters. What a joke. Romney is one big joke. Looks like the Repubs are dead set on Obama winning a second term since Paul is the only one who can beat Obama. But wait, didn't obama say he would not run again if he did a lousy job. Well letting the illegal FED spend 70 TRILLION dollars and bankrupt the country is,......well, just a litte bit bad.
