Rick Santorum is "glitter bombed" as the start of a campaign rally Feb. 7, 2012 in Blaine, Minnesota.
Updated 1:23 a.m. ET - Rick Santorum swept three nominating contests held Tuesday, upsetting frontrunner Mitt Romney and injecting new energy into the former Pennsylvania senator's campaign.
Santorum scored broad victories in the Minnesota caucus and a primary in Missouri, according to NBC News projections. But Santorum's most significant upset came in Colorado, where the state GOP declared him the apparent victor in caucuses there.
Romney made his hardest push of the three states in Colorado, having campaigned there and spent money on advertising. Santorum's upset raises fresh doubts about the breadth of Romney's appeal to Republicans, and abates some of the momentum Romney had built from consecutive victories in the Florida primary and Nevada caucus.
"I don't stand here to be the conservative alternative to Mitt Romney; I stand here to be the conservative alternative to Barack Obama," Santorum told a raucous crowd in Missouri.

Still, the former Pennsylvania senator drew contrasts with Romney throughout his remarks, saying Romney "has the same positions as Barack Obama" on a number of issues close to conservatives. Santorum also made a disapproving nod toward Romney's gaffe last week in which the former Massachusetts governor said his campaign was "not concerned about the very poor."
"I care about the very rich and the very poor," Santorum told supporters. "I care about 100 percent of America."
The Romney campaign had begun to downplay expectations for its finish in Missouri and Minnesota, though the Colorado finish seemed more genuinely surprising to Romney. Throughout the campaign, Romney, the tentative frontrunner, has been dogged by questions about his ability to close the deal with Republicans — questions that will be furthered by Tuesday night's returns.
Romney conceded in remarks just before midnight in the East Coast that "this was a good night for Rick Santorum."
Rick Santorum swept Tuesday's Republican presidential contests in Colorado, Minnesota and Missouri, sending a signal to Romney that voters are still skeptical of his conservative credentials. NBC's Peter Alexander reports.
Santorum had campaigned last week in Missouri, Minnesota, and Colorado — while Romney, Newt Gingrich and Texas Rep. Ron Paul campaigned in Nevada. Since Saturday's Nevada caucuses, Romney has basically campaigned only in Colorado.
While NBC News will not project allotments of delegates based off the results, Santorum's sweep provides a new springboard for his campaign heading into a crucial stretch for the campaign.
The former Massachusetts governor had been seen as a marginal favorite in the contests simply because of his organizational strength. Romney had also won the 2008 Minnesota caucus. This cycle, he fell to third, behind Santorum and Paul.
The winner of Jan. 3's Iowa caucuses by a razor-thin margin, Santorum had focused on winning over the same brew of social conservatives and Republicans not ready to settle for Romney during his campaign efforts.
"Tonight's victory should put to bed the idea that the Republican nomination for Mitt Romney is inevitable," said Stuart Roy, an adviser to the pro-Santorum super PAC, the Red, White and Blue Fund.
The victories, however, are somewhat informal. Missouri will host a separate caucus next month to allocate its delegates, and the Minnesota and Colorado caucus results are non-binding.
NBC's Chuck Todd tells TODAY's Ann Curry that Rick Santorum's sweep of Tuesday's GOP presidential contests was a "rejection by conservatives of Mitt Romney."
Romney had been looking to keep alive an unbeaten streak, which started last Tuesday in Florida and continued through Saturday night's Nevada caucus. But his campaign started to play down expectations for his performance in these contests after signs of momentum for Santorum had begun to emerge.

"Of course, there is no way for any nominee to win first place in every single contest … and we expect our opponents to notch a few wins too," Romney political director Rich Beeson wrote in a memo to reporters. "It is difficult to see what Governor Romney’s opponents can do to change the dynamics of the race in February."
Romney said earlier in the evening that he was "pretty confident" he'd finish first or second in Colorado, which also hosted caucuses Tuesday evening, before adding that he expects to become the GOP nominee when the primary concludes.
Romney's campaign had additionally waged an offensive against Santorum late in the weekend, looking to stymie his climb much as they had done with Gingrich in Florida.
Santorum's late surge undercuts Romney's claim to being the GOP campaign's sole frontrunner. He'd sought to cruise through the lighter schedule in February. By contrast, Santorum had the most to gain from proving he can upset the former Massachusetts governor. Alternatively, had Santorum been unable to beat Romney despite his intense focus on these contests, it would have raised questions about his viability going forward.

"Gov. Romney is uniquely unqualified to take on the most important issue in this election," Santorum said yesterday in Rochester, referring to the health care reforms Romney had supported in Massachusetts. "Gov. Romney is dead wrong on the most important issue of the day and he should not be our nominee."
The Romney campaign saw its best chances tonight in Colorado, where they have spent money on advertising, and where Romney has done most of his campaigning since winning in Nevada.
But having been injected with a new twist, the Republican primary campaign is set to move forward with no ending on the horizon, meaning Republicans' focus will remain more on each other than the general election match-up against President Obama.
Paul has signaled that his campaign will continue to focus on select caucuses, reflecting their sense that Paul is best positioned to pick up delegates in those kinds of contests. The libertarian-minded congressman stressed the delegate battle in remarks late Tuesday evening.
GOP presidential candidate Ron Paul thanks supporters for their effort following a strong showing in that state.
Arizona and Michigan's primaries are the next test for the candidates; Romney was raised in Michigan, where his father also served as governor. He's seen as the early favorite in the Wolverine State.
The biggest point of emphasis, though, will come on March 6 -- Super Tuesday. A number of large states host primaries and caucuses that day, and the candidates are already turning their attention to those states.
Gingrich, for instance, spent Tuesday campaigning in Ohio, the key swing state which hosts its primary on Super Tuesday.
Santorum, meanwhile, is expected to continue on Wednesday to Texas, whose primary date is in flux due to litigation over the state's congressional redistricting map.

Well as long as no frothy mixture spews forth from a second wind. I googled Santorum and I guarantee you wouldn't want more of that.
Rick, go to the original documents - most of them are on line and get the whole truth. There are so many ridiculous truth squad sites that are spewing nothing but inuendo, rumor, and wishful thinking all based on facts - minus the whole picture of facts.
@ Rick's Real,
You should have googled all the GOP contenders, believe me, you wouldnt want any of them...
This Teapub field has to be one of the most un-electable in history. None of them are real Teapubs, that's why no one in particular has managed to stay on top...
This election shoud be a landslide for Obama. The right wingers have nothing going here and they know it....deep inside some of them are gonna vote for Obama...because of the dislike they have for this Romne guy.
Santorum will gain little, but Paul will do well in Minnesota and Colorado. "Frothy mix" needs to save his money for sweater vests.
@ DocHolliday, I love how you say that "they" don't have anything going for them and they have a "dislike" of Romney....Guess what, Romney, Gingrich, Santorum, and Obama are all the same thing. I am sorry your to closed minded and such a partisan hack that you can't see that, but it is the truth.
The only candidate in the two main parties that is different is Ron Paul. Ron Paul is the only non-big government, anti war mongering, pro civil liberty candidate in the running (taking into account that the Libertarian Party has yet to nominate a candidate). He is also the only one that wants our currency to be worth something again and to tackle the national debt with actual cuts not fake projected growth cuts. Also he is the only one out of the other 3 and Obama who doesn't believe he is some sort of king who can do as he pleases without the oversight of our checks and balances. But I am sure you won't agree to any of that, and you will quote some lame Democrat talking point that makes as much sense as Obama's "I need more power to ensure I don't abuse my power" mentality.
wha...!?!
De Tocqueville,
Ron Paul? Are you kiddin? Ever listen to this guy? He sounds like a southern rodeo clown.
I am sure the "country" of Texas would elect him, after Texas state lines, he has no chance against Obama...get real
You're preachin' to the choir, squire.
At both you guys, yeah I have listened to him for years. He sounds like the only person who understands the Constitution, the proper meaning of Department of Defense, just how the Fed covers the huge and building deficit, and the free market. Apparently you have never listened to him, because you would know how off base you really are.
And yes Rick they are the same, it only takes a couple a minutes to see that. Of course you have to take your blinders off first.
I myself thought Ron Paul was a right wing nut till I listened to him in the debates. He makes perfect sense and is in sharp contrast to the changing and obfuscatory positions of the other candidates.
Is this like passing gas? Santorum can seek all the second wind he wants, but it's all in his mind.
Ron paul ---, so you can't heat your house this winter? Tell us what you will do. Well, I would just get the government out of the way. I mean, you can freeze to death. Don't want governmnet telling us what to do. Rick santorum - so you cant heat your house this winter? Well, we need to end abortion but I don't plan on funding any agencies that support adoption so if your some 20 your old, well you just suffer with the kid for 18 years. Heating a house. Well I guess you will purchase some gas but its all about family values that your house is so cold. . So newt, what would you do? OBama - what would you do. .Make the rich pay for it. They don't need it anyway. It was george bushes fault. IT just goes on and on and on.
Its too bad America is too busy at war with itself arguing Left vs Right when an easily outlined plan was laid before us. You Lefist vs Righters better understand that the two party system only encourages you to be asholes to each other. Its never ending, you drones pick a chosen subject, choose a side, and then attack each other. Day after Day. Brain Dead, Aloof, Sarcastic, Uninformed, Venomous America.
How will we ever stand against tryanny when you attack each other??
Ron Paul is reckless and foolish when it comes to foreign policy! He also doesn't make logical sense when it comes to social issues either. As for the constitution he is spot on! But I can't vote for him. So It's Rick Santorum all the way baby!
Folks if ya dont believe politicians are clowns, here we go. Laugh a little. These are sound bites from your heroes. Ron Paul's sound bite will make you laugh so hard, it'll hurt...I am warning ya...
http://badlipreading.tumblr.com/
I hope you realize that is voice overs. If not god help you.
@EXtreme, is that why we in the military contribute more to him than all other candidates including Obama combined? We are just a bunch of lugs with no knowledge of our foreign policy huh?
@ Jolly, it is called State and local governments. So yeah no federal initiatives need to be in place. States, and especially local governments (ie: municipalities) have a greater grasp on who needs assistance and what type. Also there are many many charities that help with these issues.
@ Doc, even though the voice overs were trying to make him look bad I still found the humor in them.
As an independent (minded person)
You guys crack me up...Ron Paul won't go to war (thumbs up) but will get rid of the EPA and most parts of good regulation...Not to say some of it is not STUPID...but I like clean water and as we all have seen, big business will take everything to the uber-limit if left to their own devices.
We need too stop this party crap and everyone runs on their IDEAS, NOT, this guy sucks worse than me.
Santorum would be better than Romney....
@ Big Mac, enforcing actual property rights would do more for our water and air than the EPA could ever dream of. All the EPA does is say who can and can't pollute and by how much (and it tends to be their big business friends who the government lays in bed with). Also Ron Paul didn't say he wouldn't go to war, just it would be the last option and have to be constitutional by having Congress declare it.
As for your second comment, I agree 100% that is why I support Ron Paul even though I am not a Republican. I would also support Gary Johnson if he gets the Libertarian nomination.
Santorum wants to ban sex except for procreation purposes, he wants to ban contraceptives, he is completely obsessed with controlling America's sex life, thank you but pass. He will never get anything but the fundamentalist female vote, he has zero chance of beating Obama.
Don't get me wrong....If someone attacks the US...we kick their ass
I'm from Texas and I like guns and people to keep their noses out of my business but We have gone too war lately for all the wrong reasons
If Ron Paul will change things so much for the better, but won't use executive orders and will use his power based on a strict interpretation of the Constitution...
How will he get anything done?
He wouldn't because despite serving in congress, he seems to fail to understand the limitation of power for a president. He has never passed any of his agenda through congress, he just votes. He won't get them passed as president either.
Jan,
Santorum is just the candidate to run on the new HHS ruling. He is going to beat up Obama over and over and over again. Perfect!!
Go Santorum!!! And congratulations on the race today!!
Santorum is the only candidate of the four that would make me vote for Obama. Unelectable except as Pope. I'd vote for him for Pope, but that's it.
This is ridiculous..Common sense none of those republicans can do anything right ( as always)!
OBAMA 2012...too easy!
No contraceptives for YOU!
Obama 2012
looks like the libs will be spewing some frothy mixtures tonight, after the final counts come out.
This is the problem with uninformed people like you. You spend too much time listening to joke clips and not enough time doing real research.
So what you're saying that is in order to "get anything done" you have to bend the rules of the Constitution. What a sad state of affairs this country is in...
The problem is Obama and Iran's nukes. Obama is soft on Iran.
Santorum will stand against Iran nukes.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=WwiadYT-N9k
Ron Paul can't even figure out what party he belongs to. I'm a Democrat, no I'm a Republican. I'm a Republican, no I'm a Libertarian er uh Republican er uh Libertarian masquerading as a Republican or is it the other way around......? Well heck who cares if the kids like me because they think I'll overturn drug laws?
Snowballs chance in hell but, hey he's got the conservative version of Ralph Nader's job in this election. Thanks Ron for being a stubbornly necessary distraction. Hope your health care doesn't run out, wouldn't want anyone to deny you in the emergency room.
Frothy Mix takes Missouri and ahead in MN. Now, by Monday the press will pay attention to yet another front runner. I understand Missouri, but I don't get him doing well in MN or CO. Gotta be "da vest."
Obama-Biden 2012
Romney is in trouble. Letterman stated it best: "I can't in good conscience vote for someone who ties their dog to the roof of their car!"
Rick's Real - Ha! I had forgotten the definition of santorum
The president elaborated on Iran's nuclear capability — and how he plans to prevent it. "My goal is to try to resolve this diplomatically, mainly because the only way over the long term we can assure Iran doesn't get a nuclear weapon is by getting them to understand it's not in their interest," Obama told Lauer.
People, you need to worry. Look what the Supreme Leader said to Lauer.
Rick Santorum will deal with Iran.
Obama won in Missouri.
@koobee
We can not afford another war.
Remember we are broke.
Oooooh, here comes the ATTACK MODE against Santorum from the Obama campaign.
Now, that will take off the pressure from receiving/returning campaign donations from those guys in Mexico wanting a pardon.
Yeah, I think Mr. Obama also won the vote in Monterey, Mexico.
De Tocqueville...If you support Ron Paul and Gary Johnson...you just want too smoke pot (and that's OK) but there are bigger problems to deal with.
Sham - he went to his dioceses and warned them not to support the Democrats HCL. They didn't listen because the Obama administration assured them that Catholic hospitals and adoption/family planning services would be exempt from . The same leadership is now telling the membership that they were lied to. And that is the whole truth.
What happened a couple of weeks ago the Obama administration through HHS Kathleen Sebillias wiped out the promised exemptions.
That change means every faith based hospital, whether Jewish, Christian, or Muslim has to provide the healthcare the HHS demands in even though it violation of their faith.
Now are we all prepared for those dozens of boards to become the death panels Palin spoke of too?
Attack mode? President Obama just gets to watch the GOP cannibalize another of their own. There's never been a more pathetic exhibition of scummy politics as all of these pukes have been doing to each other.
Let me say this again... I want to personally thank Obama's re-election committee: Romney, Ging"RICH", InSantorum, and Paul.
Romney = Obama win
Gingrich = Obama Landslide Win
InSantorum = Is this a joke? Obama still wins.
Paul = Great ideas.....for 1896. Obama still wins.
The new flavor of the month in the GOP.
ItsAboutTime
Saying doesn't make it a fact. But have at it!
HA HA, wishful thinking Dems....you gonna have to deal with Romney, so get used to it!!!!
Too bad all the libs don't ask what their own guy is so great at. Sure, none of the repubs are perfect. But, all are better than Obama. What is it that Obama has done that you are thrilled about. Take Obamacare, for example. Libs love the idea of socialized medicine and everyone knows that is the intent of Obamacare. But, if it so wonderful, don't you wonder, even a little, why so many waivers have been granted? I mean, why would anyone want a waiver if it is the panacea that it was sold as? Why grant it and deny all those Americans the benefits of it? Might it just be that the repubs are right, that the waivers are granted so that no one feels the terrible effects of it until after the 2012 elections? Hmmmm.......
So, besides the great Obamacare, what else has he done that is great? Deficit spending? Well, he is good at that! Jobs? Well, from December 2011 to January 2012, 243,000 jobs have been created thanks to Obama. Of course, while we are at it we have to thank Obama because in December 2011 132.9 million people were employed and in January 130.4 million people were employed. .........
Conservative = Love Big Corp's more than people! Hate the Poor and TAX the Middle-Class! Coddle the RICH and never let 'em pay any taxes! Make WAR on other countries but keep those trillion$ OFF the Budget! HATE women, and sex, and act as the Boss/traffic cop to their vagina's and uterus'! Increase the SIZE of GOV'T by Legislating against women's rights, immigrant's rights, gay people's rights, Voter's rights...more laws, bigger laws, bigger Gov't! Less Freedom, obviously. Republicans LIEabout a minute ago · Like That's my love-letter to the sad, sick little Santorum, the religious freak!!!!!!!
I live in Minnesota, the caucus system is pointless, a bunch of people go to a location waste an hour or more writing on pieces of paper that mean nothing, why you ask? Because in MN the caucus results mean absolutly NOTHING, just because a certain candidate wins the caucus doesn't mean the delegates must vote at the convention for that person. They can still vote for whomever they wish, the caucus is non-binding.
I wont waste my time with anything that the results of which mean nothing more then I like coca-cola more then pepsi.
Here they are discussing Picture I.D. for voting, which I support. I also support switching to a primary system where the delegates must vote for who wins it and where EVERYONE can have a say. The reason they don't switch to a primary system here is that it would cost the state more money. It wouldn't if they cut back our extremely way too generous welfare or even just on the fraud that is done from the people that claim to live here but actually live in chicago or another state.
Santorum won MN Big effing deal it doesn't really matter.
I liked Hunstman, but I'm not too deep into politics. However, I do love how these articles bring out some really funny comments. That being said... Santorum can't possibly win because taking a dead rotting corpse home to your family is just creepy, Romney really did strap his dog to the top of the car(had to look that one up after seeing the reference in another comment here) and Gingrich just simply is Gingrich. No one is going to vote for him with his history.
Yet Ron Paul and Huntsman couldn't beat any of these guys?! You'd swear that anyone off the street could beat this lot. I don't even know why they are having an election this year. Could there ever have been a more guaranteed outcome in a presidential election.
Doc Holiday, Even Ron Paul would a saner chioce than the Flip Flopper in Chief who has now outdone Romney in backflips.
DB Akron: True enough, but based on everything I am seeing, hearing, and past track record... Obama wins.
Santorum? Really? I swear I would rather see Obama in a second term than Santorum in the White House.
Romney out spent every one but unlike some other states Colorado, Minnesota and Missouri are not for sale.
Musical chairs in the clown car.
Ana....... Most people who have big hunting dogs crate them. the crates most times go in the bed of their pickup trucks. But I have seen several models of crates that strap to the Thule rack on the top of your car. The dog was not tied by its leash to the luggage rack.
Ron Paul.
The doctor who believes that you can contract AIDS from toilet seats and saliva.
The "Freedom loving" Libertarian that believes that states have the right to take away any freedom from you they desire, and the federal government shouldn't intervene.
The Racist who regularly accepts donations from and gives speeches to the John Birch Society.
The bigot who was recently exposed as editing or authoring his money-making racist news letters.
The crazy little loon who complains about the military industrial complex, but who's immigration policies would spawn a monstrous prison industrial complex.
The mad, little coot that thinks that, by eliminating Social Security, the Post Office, Medicare, Medicaid, the FDA and the EPA, our seniors will be safer and more secure, our country will be more informed and connected, the elderly and infirm will be snuggly--wuggly, our food, drug and environment will be clean and healthy.
The batty genius that believes that the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT is somehow more capable and apt to run roughshod over the individual freedoms than STATE, COUNTY, CITY or MUNICIPLE governments are. THOSE governments are "small" to the guy trying to stand up to his rights and should be left unsupervised.
The fiscal guru that believes that we should return to the Gold Standard that we had up until the Financial Crash and ensuing Great Depression.
Ron Paul 1912.
Have a nice day.
There are several "liberal" viewpoints from rather (seemingly) mainstream Americans that can just as easily be called BIGOTED.
Stop the hype. The liberal agenda is so out there and contradictory to sane, moral life that it's insulting to say anyone who chooses to live a traditional life (one spouse, keep the kids in-line, and not dally in activities that are against any fed, state or local law) is "out of touch" or "1895" or "1912."
Last I checked, the liberal agenda since the 1960s has f8cked up America severely in several different streams within society...
Dear wonderful America:
I am not a democrat (and definitely not a socialist) but a concerned proud American, who loves this country to death, but the republicans (conservatives) have to go. I don't understand (unless it is just pure brainwashing and/or stupidity) how people vote for the republicans and conservatives. Obama is an amazing politician, person, and true American. However, the awful and hateful republicans continue to hurt and destroy this country by not allowing the government to pass these wonderful policies and laws that are being brought to the table by Obama and his administration and some other democrats. It's like he is giving us the solutions and corrections on what will make this country progress, develop, and get so much better, and then the crabby/difficult and manipulative/evil republicans do not support and vote for the potential policies and laws. And, they don't support them because they are not going to work or be good for America, but they don't support them because they are from a brilliant Democrat who is trying to help the country. We are having a difficult time because the republicans don't care about this country.
The dirty republicans want to continue to play games, slander others, lie, cheat, steal, and be (what needs to be said) racist. If Obama was white, the republicans would probably at least respect him a little. In addition, all the republicans care about is themselves and no one else, even not other republicans (unless you are a billionaire) and are going to donate a lot of money to their campaigns. If the policy or law focused on tax cuts for the rich and their businesses, the republicans would vote for those in a heartbeat, but when it comes to helping the poor and middle class, the republicans have to say that the potential law is going to be socialist and bad for the country. Are you kidding me?
Wake up America!!! Stop voting for republicans and their selfish and evil ways. Support the current President and his brilliant ideas. This country would be in such an amazing and better place if Obama and the other democrats have been able to pass more of their policies and laws due to the stubborn and mean republicans. In addition, which is also another long discussion, Obama is trying to clean up the infinite mess and devastating decisions that were made by Bush and previous Republicans. All Bush and the republicans did was drive this country into the ground and steal millions of dollars for themselves. They also hurt millions of innocent Americans just so they could get rich. Shame on you Bush and all the republicans. You all are criminals and should be locked up or please just leave this country and get out. All you care about is yourself and your money. It is going to take decades for us to recover from the horrible and awful decisions that were made by Bush, previous republican presidents, and other stupid republican policies and laws. America is about the people and helping people, not about keeping the rich rich and making the republicans more money. republicans are horrible and sick people.
Please support and continue to support these wonderful and amazing decisions, bills, policies, and laws that Obama and the democrats are bringing to the table. You will not be sorry. They are for the people and the greater good, not just for a specific group of people to help make them stay or get rich.
P.S. I am not a democrat but just really care about this country and its people and after decades of studying republicans, democrats, and other political ideas, it is obvious that the republicans are lying to everyone and have a selfish agenda. If everyone would stop taking sides, they would be able to see the truth of what the republicans and conservatives are really trying to do, which is try to make themselves rich and everyone else poor. Shame on all of you republicans and "con"servatives, especially the tea party members. Oh wait, some of you are asking, who is the tea party. I guess we don't have to worry about them anyway since their number one spokesperson (what was its name? Tara Palon, Tara Tyrant, Stupid Laden, Sara's Lyin, oh it doesn't matter, it was a moron anyway). It's funny how vain the republican party is to let an idiot get that far just because of looks. To me, it looked like Bush and all of the other devils and satans out there. And, didn't it commit a crime like all the other republicans in office, and she never got arrested. It should be in jail like all the other republicans, especially Mitt Romney for evading taxes. I guess he will just buy his way out of jail, just like he is with this rediculous excuse for an election. Oh wait, it's just the primaries. Oh wait, I thought it was a horror show on tour or a sick joke of a comedy tour across the nation. I think Charlie Sheen's tour was better.
For you republicans who read my post, please please please wake up and quit being brainwashed and/or quit being selfish and think about the greater good. In addition, collapsing my post is proof enough that you do not want the truth to be told. And, you are the hypocrite because I do as I say and republicans/conservatives want people to leave them alone but want to make others like them through laws. Keep your values and religion out of our laws and government. Shame on you.
I don't care who you are... Rick's Reel comment that started this thread is just plain funny.
Poor Mittens - he better get a new campaign staff they are incompetent!!
I just read that entire string... it took a long time. I now feel stupider for having done so. *face palm*
Obama will win. I don't think the Republicans want to win the next election because the state of the economy is going to be devastating for the next president and the Republicans know this.
Ron Paul is a tough one, and his problem is he doesn't really fit anywhere. I'm not tepid about any of this positions: I am either in complete agreement with him, or in complete disagreement with him. I will hear him discussing some issues and I find myself totally rooting for him. Then he changes to another topic and I'm thinking, oh my gosh, this guy is really scary! Everything with him is black and white; he can't see the gray, and there's a lot of gray in this world. He sees things from only one perspective and is unwilling or unable to even try to see other perspectives. That's why I ultimately could never get on board with him.
Stop the Bullsh1t
Where did you check? Think you may have checked in the wrong place.
Come on, is it really thrown wide open, or is it just journalistic-asm? Look at the delegats. What is surprising really is that Santorum beat Ron Paul in some states so far, and yes, that he leads in anything. But that doesn't throw the door 'wide open.'
It always is pretty to look at a map and color in the squares. You have these states with low populations but huge territories, and they make it look oh so important when this massive square mile area is painted in the colors of the team of your choice. But EVEN in those areas, the voting happened mostly around the urban centers. Duh. Its where the people live. This is a national campaign and he who has the most national delegates wins.
What you have is a psychotic part of the Republican party versus the sane part, and no candidate appealing to both groups. This is damage done to itself. Democrats bash whoever is the candidate, you can see it here, even though Romney is closer to them when it comes to social issues. So don't listen to them at all.
Listen to independents. A guy like Romney could win the election. A guy like Santorum cannot. And by the way, I understand him, from a social point. But that doesn't mean I agree with his point of view, would vote for him, or think he could win anything nationwide.
Santorum is racing for Vice President. The race is between Romney and Gingrich. It will take a lot more to change that than the 3 states Santorum won.
And poor Ron Paul. He has a lot in common with Rodney Dangerfield.
Comment # 1 restored for clarity.
I guess the church thing doesn't work for everyone... I hope Santorum will take note before he tries to do away with the separation of church and state.
Santorum is awesome for the republican party!!! He is a perfect herald of their misguided beliefs... beliefs such as:
Science and scientists are BAD!!!
Global warming is a hoax!!!
Abortion causes/is linked to breast cancer!!!
Intelligent design is FACT!!!
Jesus would want Americans to ignore the poor, let people die due to not having viable health insurance!!!
Obama is a marxist-socialist-fascist (ignoring that fascism and socialism are on the opposite extremes of the political spectrum)
Please vote for Santorum so that the comedy can continue.
AMF
Food for thought, everybody says Newt has baggage. Well I say Mitt Romney has even more baggage. Not in the marriage area but as far as his background positions as Governor of Mass. When he holds rallys he doesn't even talk about his record. I think he is backing off of his record. That tells me he has no chance against Obama in a general election.
I would support either Rick or Newt. But ABO will suffice.
None of the Republicans talk about their records or their policies or the fact that their policies mirror GW's (and that's the reason we're in this mess in the first place).
A Republican vote for president is a vote to return to trickle-up economics.
If you vote Republican and are not a millionaire, you are literally voting against your own interests.
joe, I have said this many times. Bush brought us deficits true, however he did not cause the Housing crisis. That was Carter and Clinton and Barney Frank letting people buy houses without ability to pay off those pesky little loans.
Bush's legacy was after 911. You forget how all of us wanted to get Bin Laden. And blaming Bush but not blaming Obama for these wars that are unfunded, is just plain wrong. Obama deficits triple Bush's in any given year. He has over a Trillion dollars just this year alone. How do you justify that? I don't expect an answer because frankly, you don't have one.
And a democrat vote for president is a vote for more spending. I guess you think we can keep borrowing money from China and never having to pay it back you know like those pesky loans that won't be paid back...

Ricks Real
You and others like you really amuse me. Your critisize the Republicans and support someone like Obama. I never cease to be amazed.
Agreed floyd , the only reason anyone supports OBAMA now is due to his color, I see him as half black and half white, He knows how to do the talk with the black side but he cant do the walk with the white side!!! So tired of the same old shick empty words and empty heads following him.
Hmmm. Les'see here now. Romney's bought two and won one. Gingrich bought one. Hmmm, yeah, Santorum's won three and likely to win another tonight. G W made a speech before an association of used car salesmen and laid claim to the banks and auto company bailouts today, or yesterday. Hmmm? Who's on the waiting list? Christy? Rubio? Daniels? Ryan? jeb Bush? Wahhh,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha. Gwad ah mighty! Wonder if the son-a-bitches would pay me to run? Waa,hahaha,ha! Call myself a progressive who has come down with an unmanageable case of "piles". Waaahahahaha, ha, ha,ha,ummm, uhh, damn! The President and the democrats have put the republicans in a leaky boat, tugged 'em up sh^t creek, marooned 'em on a slick bank, then burned the boat. Waaa,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha. This really is some fun Sh^t.
Give me conservatism or give me death!!!!!!
No surprise rick won in Minnesota - the moderates either DON'T show up anymore, or have joined the Independent party (yes, we in Minnesota actually have have THREE major parties, and the Greens are in the running in local elections). What is left of the republican party in Minnesota is rabidly bigoted, homophobic and religiously nuts.
So which play is this? "The Sound and the Fury"?
or "Much Ado About Nothing"?
Obama/Biden 2012
Anyone but Gingrich.
MD-When Obama is elected to a second term I can see your head exploding like a huge pimple. You and Kornfed can hold hands and jump.
It isn't about black and white. It isn't about Obama. It's about the Republicans taking the economy all the way to BUST! Now they have a bunch of jokers trying to run against a man that has made great decisions and has cut through the B.S. of the Republican party.
THANK GOODNESS! Finally we see the ugly conservative side of the GOP and how fragmented and lost they are to find a DECENT man to govern the nation.
I laugh at the Republicans blindness and lack of understanding of the nation at large. Their conservative "old fashioned" views stink of unfair quips towards a brilliant President. They ran the economy into the ground, set up corporations to rebuild Iraq and milked the USA for money while the economy ran into the ground.
Blame yourselves Republicans! You brought it on yourselves and now you make idiotic statments that show the bigotry and racial divide you brought upon this country.
Sleep in your beds, YOU MADE'EM!
My nipples are a little hard right now....give me some room !!!
So you really think Rick can win against Obama ?
Dave Simpson: Wonderful post. Thank you
He can and will,,,if the people wish it to be
And, I see ron carried or almost carried every county with a major state college in Minnesota, proving I guess that just because you can PAY for a post secondary education doesn't mean you have the brains to actually do the work.
I vote the latter. Maize eaters can barely find their way to a caucus.
HA HA, wishful thinking Dems....you gonna have to deal with Romney, so get used to it!!!!
Romney's campaign is sinking faster than an Italian cruise liner.
The neo-conservatives are going to start having coronaries.
Santorum 1st, Paul 2nd? LOL Baaad outcome for GOP establishment.
It was really great cheap entertainment to watch the GOP establishment falling all over themselves when Gingrich won SC.
They loved that red meat bomb-throwing until it looked like it might get left on the table until election day.
Better Santorum than "Family Abandoning" Gingrich.
(Although I'll be votin Obama!!)
Why aren't the democrats putting up multiple candidates for their people to choose who they want to run in the presidential race.
Obama for sure can't be every democrats favorite person after all the hair brained schemes he has hatched and have failed.
He has changed his mind on every single issue.
he still has no money...and is in debt...I guess if you are going to elect someone like YOU...in debt and broke...AND STUPID...there you go...you picked the right guy..he slept with a dead baby...that he took from the hospital...he admits it...are you that lame
He is better than Mich Bach-man or who ever she WAS...she hated gays and her husband was a 3 dollar bill. You teabaggers need to make up your ...oh wait...you don't have a mind...or any intelligence at all
Nevermind...you'all(I KNOW) couldn't elect a reasonable person if you tried
I love this stuff ! It's very theatrical and reminds me of the drama which I witnessed as a young lawyer, years ago.
Mom dies 4 or 5 years after Dads passing, son Mitt breaks into Moms locked home and makes off with a flat screen TV, which he tells everyone that "Mom" always said she "wanted him to have it". Brother Rick,in a steam, goes over to put dead bolt locks on Moms place, but grabs her old Lazy-boy recliner, because everyone knows he has a bad back and because he knows "That no one else would have any use for it."
Then brother Ron ( it's a large Mormon Family) breaks the glass in a window, climbs in trying to find Moms Last Will and Testament, cuts his hand, has no luck, and flees.
Then brother Newt sneaks over the next day, sees the broken window and blood and calls the police, who, through fingerprints arrests brother Ron, who is then sued by all the brothers, who make the lawsuit decision over pizza at a Godfathers Pizza restaurant....
Here is why Rick Santorum will be the Republican nominee and Mitt Romney will not: Rick Santorum's biggest threat to the left is that he opposes gay marriage and homosexuality in general. But the tide on that issue has turned. More Americans accept homosexuality and same-sex marriage than ever before, and with the youth of America siding with gay and lesbian couples when it comes to matters of the heart, people will overlook that shortcoming from Santorum. People will come to the realization that the "gay issue" will take care of itself for now, momentum is on their side. People don't want that to be an issue anymore as witnessed by the end of "Don't ask, don't tell"; and Santorum will likely not pursue that agenda into a general election. Rick Santorum has the best chance at beating Barack Obama in 2012, and I believe he will be the nominee of the Republican party. Gingrich and Paul are not even footnotes. This is now a two-man race, and I think Romney's toast.
Rick's Real, you have to be kidding? Santorums views on contraception alone is going put independents and very moderate republican women in Obama's camp. Santorum is too extreme to the right to ever win, despite what the idiots in the tea party thing, people are not suddenly going to change to their extreme stupidity.
Who dressed the Santorum gang in the front page photo? They look like a poster for corporate identity. Everyone wearing electric blue with white at the neck, and the head honcho with a red tie to show power.
You guys will have to do better than that.
I'm kind of hoping Rick Santorum wins the GOP nomination, because I want to see if people are willing to vote this guy into the White House. I really want to see what he'll do with the office of the Presidency. What I think is sad though, is the fact that people are talking about Obama trampling over the religious freedoms of the Catholics and all, but Santorum is willing to trample on the freedoms of ALL Americans, so let's see what he does if he gets in there. Hell, I might vote for Santorum just to see what chaos it might bring!
The clown circus continues and the elite repugnant establishment heads are exploding. Keep up the good work pugglie voters. Your candudates will continue to rip each other up and Obama "Four more Years" 2012! Woo Hoo!
"Amen" to "amused but not distracted." It is wonderful to see that one of the clowns has rejoined the circus. Gosh, I miss Herman Cain and Michelle Bachmann. Santorum doesn't have their flair for comedy. He's egregious but he doesn't seem outrageous--just boring and stupid. Perhaps if he wore a red wig and nose--
Hey, Republicans, my fellow Americans--can you really really take any of these guys seriously? Really?
Sanctimonious Santorum is a joke. We know firsthand. We got rid of the dweeb.
But, still glad he won last night. This drags the clown act out a bit longer. Finally, something comes along to replace Monty Python's Flying Circus!
Wonder if we keep seeing this much dissatisfaction from the Republicans, if we will see a brokered convention? (J-E-B)
liam-1161783
You spent so much time making that stupid comment, that you missed that ambulance. Maybe next time, meanwhile go back to the Salvation Army they will still feed you.
So it's a sweep! I have to say, I like Santorum better than the other two; at least you know what you're getting with him.
Santorum to liberals - Eat my shorts!
Tim Pawlenty must be kicking himslf for not waiting his turn. As a matter of fact - so is Purnell Meagre for not getting into the rce in the first place.
"I care about the very rich and the very poor," Santorum told supporters. "I care about 100 percent of America."...Interesting...this claimof caring about us all and at the same time telling us all that if you can not afford higher cost of health care..thats your tough luck. Wonder how he can claim one thing and say something else..oh yea..he is a politican..they all do it. I am not happy with everything Obama has tries to do...but so far...not one of these political want to be's has talked about what he would do to correct the mess started by a republican president. The republicans so far in congress have blocked everytthing, even some of their own ideas, just to stop Obama from making good. All of congress was elected to work for ALL the people, not the few, which is what we have today.
Obama's decision about condoms was a big mistake and awakened a sleeping giant.
Speaking of "awakening a sleeping giant," I'm getting a woody.
combining "santorum" and "wind" only happens with "SANTORUM BREAKS WIND!" 2nd wind? ROFLMFAO!!
combining "santorum" and "wind" only happens with "SANTORUM BREAKS WIND!" 2nd wind? ROFLMFAO!!
God how I hate that "sleeping giant" analogy!! Every group in America seems to think they are some "sleeping giant" that can affect the outcome of the election because they feel slighted in some way by one or the other candidate, and guess what, IT NEVER HAPPENS!!!
If the Catholics could control our electoral process then why haven't they before? I think the last Catholic elected to the office of the President of the United States was JFK, in fact wasn't he the ONLY catholic president ever elected?
You Cathoilics must be a pretty sleepy bunch of people, you pretty much slept through the last two centuries of politics in America.
ABO 2012!
...really, that's all that matters!
The election this year will focus on whether we can afford 4 more years of Obama.
Here are the Deficit figures for the last 5 Presidents - with a link to the official government source to verify;
Reagan (1981-1988) = $1.339 Trillion over 8 years, or $167 Billion per year.
Bush 1 (1989-1992) = $933 Billion over 4 years, or $233 Billion per year.
Clinton (1993-2000) = $320 Billion over 8 years, or $40 Billion per year.
Bush 2 (2001-2008) = $2.006 Trillion over 8 years, or $251 Billion per year.
Obama = (2009-2012p)= $5.453 Trillion (Proj) over first 4 years, or $1,363 Billion per year. That's $4.6 Trillion more than Bush spent in his first 4 years.
If Obama is reelected, he projects another $5 Trillion of Deficits in the next 4 years, or over $10 Trillion which our children and grandchildren will have as a 'millstone' around their necks for their entire lives. Running up huge debts is a great way to 'pander for votes', but somebody will have to pay it back (our children) - with interest.
Here's the official government link - See Table 1.3;
http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/budget/Historicals
And the nutjob tornado will continue to spin tighter and tighter as these freaks try and "out far right nutjob each other". By the time November rolls around they will have lost the left, middle, right, independents and nearly all women leaving only the far, far right teabagging tin foil hat crowd to vote for them. Could not happen to a nicer group of angry clowns.
Obama/Biden 2012
Eric...
If memory serves me, your savior was directly responsible for the shellacking the dems took in 2010.
What would make you libbies think anything will be different in 2012? Americans are tired of Obama and his socialist cronies. He will be ousted...no worries!
ABO 2012!
It's like he is giving us the solutions and corrections on what will make this country
progress, develop, and get so much better, and then the crabby/difficult and manipulative/evil republicans do not support and vote for the potential policies and laws.
If everyone would stop taking sides, they would be able to see the truth of what the republicans and "con"servatives are really trying to do, which is try to make themselves rich and everyone else poor. Shame on all of you republicans and conservatives, especially the tea party members. Oh wait, some are asking, who is the tea party? It doesn't matter, their mascot is finally out of the media. Oh wait, should't it be in jail for breaking the law, like all the other republicans. No, they just buy their way out of going to jail, just like Romney for evading taxes. And, you all are trying to elect him for president? That is absolutely the stupidest thing I have ever heard of. Are these republican primaries some kind of joke? Is this a horror tour or a lame comedy show tour going across the nation? It seems free, but we will be paying for it forever as long as moronic Americans keep voting for these tools, I meant criminals. I think Charlie Sheens tour across the nation was more entertaining and it actually meant something. I guess it didn't, but neither does all this craziness and madness, you all are calling the re"pig"lican primaries.
For you re"pig"licans who read my post, please please please wake up and quit being brainwashed and/or quit being selfish and think about the greater good. In addition, collapsing my post is proof enough that you do not want the truth to be told. And, you are the hypocrite because I do as I say and republicans/conservatives want people to leave them alone but want to make others like them through laws. Keep your values and religion out of our laws and government. Shame on you.
Cantakeno more...What an idiotic post! Filled with the usual bigotry and ignorance we have come to expect from the unwashed masses of the conservative ranks..
Typical crybaby conservative complaining about his persecution and woes..
Zen Love "I am not a democrat"
And then you proceed to demonize the 'piglicans' and praise the 'brilliant' President.
Methinks you protest too much.
Zen Love, excellent post. I too am an Independent. I voted for Nixon, Reagan and Bush Sr. I will NEVER vote for another Rethuglican in my lifetime. Gingrich calling Romney a liberal? While he often speaks glowingly of Mr. Reagan, with his record of raising taxes when it was best for the country he would never be allowed in this group of far, far right idiots. What qualifies as the Republican party today is what was the 2% of the farthest right fringe part of the party 20 years ago, and nobody with a brain (and true to themselves not a racist) would ever vote for any of these shills.
Roy,
your response makes no sense. I support Obama for who he is and what he is doing, not the party he says that he is. If he was a greedy and selfish person and politician, I would not like him or vote for him. If he starts to do things to hurt others and this wonderful and amazing country, I would not be praising him and what he is doing, but the facts are that he is doing an amazing job, especially considering the mess he was left with from Bush (both of them) and Reagan. Clinton actually did a great job too. Personally, I don't like Clinton, but he was able to make our country financially and economically sound and create a sense of patriotism and love in our country without trying to go to war with other countries. I don't know why republicans are always trying to start wars. I know why, but they lie to us and say it is for other reasons. They try to do it to help the economy and create jobs, but it just backfires because they are lying to America about their real intentions behind the war, which is usually to make them rich through contracting with their companies that they own or hold stocks in. Or, they are trying to do it because the country pissed off one of their friends or family members, but it is usually to get rich, which is sad because innocent people lose their lives and die for the greediness of the republicans.
I actually wish there were no parties, and people would focus more on what the politician is about and the issues they support instead of whether he or she is a democrat or republican. It makes me made when even democrats vote for politicians just because they are democrat. That is what is wrong with this country too. There are a lot of dumb and moronic democrats too, but there are significantly less incompetent democrats than republicans. If there is ever an honest, smart, unselfish, and caring republican (I doubt there ever will be, but I can hope) who is not a millionaire/billionaire trying to stay rich and get richer off of laws that support the rich and destroy the poor and middle class, I would vote for them in a heart beat. Also, they would need to not try to pass laws that support religious beliefs and especially Christiinsanity.
It is so crazy that republicans call all democrat presidents and some of the democrat politicians and their laws that they want to pass "socialist" but the republicans try to pass just as many if not more invasive and restricting laws where the government tries to control us and is involved with our lives. But as long as it supports the republicans ideas and beliefs, then it is not socialist. If anything, the republican laws are more socialist because they are trying to make everyone like them and create an aristocracy of having just the rich and then the poor with no middle class. I am not fooled by their lies and brainwashing and you should'nt be either.
P.S. I respect the right to protest, but I hardly ever protest because I believe in keeping to myself and the right to privacy, not trying to make other people like me (like the republicans).
cantakenomore, have you been paying attention? Your beloved Republicans are busy destroying each other and the nominee is going to be the last man standing. The winner of the election is going to be Obama. Wake up, man!!
C...and Imatthebeach
Can't argue can you? Face it, America is done with liberals and their socialistic tendencies. You people are the minority...get it! MINORITY. A wave of conservatism is sweeping the country! Learn to swim or you'll drown...
Love the comments from both sides of the fence. Nothing has changed in the last 11 years, with various mixtures of republicans/democrats in charge of the White House and Congress. Here's a clue guys. None of them care about you or your ideology. They will mouth the party line, and they will do what is best for themselves. All of them.
This country is on the back nine, and all these hucksters we keep electing will do nothing to stop the decline. We need some heroes to step up, and it isn't any of these folks we have now.
Thanks Eric. You too. I wouldn't call myself an independent. I want to vote for the most qualified, intelligent, unselfish, and caring person, not matter what party they say they are from. It doesn't matter the party. It matters how much they care about this country, upholding the constitution and our rights, countinuing to support polcies and laws that help positively develop our country economically and financially, and allowing us to be ourselves, which would support diversity and acceptance to differences that we have. It does seem like most of the republicans want others to be like them and tha their laws support their religious and personal beliefs. In addition, politicians need to be willing to sacrifice instead of focusing on what is best for them and their campaign contributors, such as supporting laws because they got money from a certain person, group of people, or company. It should be illegal for politicians to pass laws and vote for laws because they received money from a certain group or company. That is so unethical and sad. In addition, all politicians should be making the average salary from the state that they are representing, if not less. They should also not be allowed to vote for their raises. That should be up to the people. In addition, the rich in this country should be paying significantly more taxes than the middle class and poor. I'm so tired of their whining. And, it is appauling that Romney and other politicians have millions and billions of dollars in banks in other countries to avoid paying taxes. That is disgusting, even for democrats who do that.
Roy,
keep up the debt post. I ask when enough is enough? is it $30Trillion? $50Trillion? $100Trillion?
Zen,
You can call yourself a cheese sandwich but your still an echo chamber for the liberal Democrat agenda.
Bluelake, don't death wish other users, please. You are suspended for a week for violating rule # 1 of the Code of Honor.
Zen Love #2.51: Best to ignore Wilson. He's a pure Rove type republican. Always posting data links and numbers, then interprets 'em the way He likes. Months ago I checked some of his furnished data, along with prior and post data, supporting and driving the data He used to support his posted claims. Takes a while sometimes, but, you would find as I did, He's selling candy gilded "bird turds". He commits himself to the art of "Marrowskyism" with data and numbers. Takes a little truth out here and sticks it in another block of data there, then concludes. Here's an example. "The message came from a high White House Source". Wilson would likely say; "The message came from a High White Horse Souse", or some variation. Point is, while sometimes irritating, no one much, really pays any attention to Wilson. Even so, I rather like the guy. He's quite accomplished and strews it well enough to impress some. Regards
Mac Forrester, I think the Republicans did it all by themselves.
Given those two choices, I'd take death.
This morning Santorum was asked what he would do to fix the problem that since our jobs went to China and our education system went to hell, our young people do not have the skills/education to handle the jobs that could come back into our country. His answer was to say that it's not our schools that are the problem. He said that parents need to pay more attention to the children at home and spend more time with them. How stupid is that? First of all, since the Republican party has been busy crushing the middle class and our wages have not gone up in years and most of us are heading downward towards poverty, who in the hell can afford to have a parent who stays home with the kids? Both parents have to work and some have more than one job and we're still sinking.
This is how out of touch with the common people Santorum is. Just like the rest of the buffoons in his party, most of them have never had to struggle to make ends meet. They have no clue what it's like to live paycheck to paycheck or worse yet be jobless or worse yet be jobless and have health issues. They just spout out a pile of B.S. on every issue and people aren't buying it.
kaybeetoys#2.59: I agree with you on both points there. Couldn't help but morph it a little though.
By the way, don't be too hard on "Kornfed". He's really a good one. Little crazy, but a good one.
Newsvine Sally: Ma'am, please have a look at post #2.9 by "Dave Simpson. He was passionate but not disrespectful. I hope you will restore his post. It's a good one. Fact, if needed, feel free to collaspe any or all of mine for his. Not a phoney gesture on my part. With respect, thank you
Mac Forrester
Thanks, Mac...I'll keep that under advisement. I'm kind of corn fed myself.
Are Republicans concerned about the low voter turnout for these primaries, with the exception of South Carolina? Compared to 2008, there doesn't seem to be much enthusiasm from registered Republicans.
Yes they are. There is great angst among conservatives over the Negative adds by both caused Florida turnout to drop. People see negative adds and simply say "why bother to figure out who is right" and don't turn out.
Example In Forida - Romney blanked the southern wing of Florida with negative votes. The turnout was record lows. In the Panhandle where Gingrich won, he was the ones with the adds and they were not as negative - the area experienced a record turnout. Most of the population is in the southern end so Romney wins.
Negative adds will only cease to work when people stand up and vote for the person being slammed by them. People won't do that.
Yhays called vote fixing. They made the mistake of giving Santo ,Ron Pauls votes in Iowa. Now they just throw Paul's votes in the trash and say voter turn out is down. In SC you saw all the fake added votes for newt. People have no sense if they can't see the fraud in this election. The only reason santo and newt are in this is to stop Paul from getting the anti-willard vote and to pass him some Ron Paul votes they couldn't trash can.
Maybe their turnout is just fine and all the ballots for Ron Paul are being thrown out/discarded/burned? TROLLOLOL I kid I kid... or do I? This is a sick world we live in.
How can anyone vote for any of these clowns but Paul. Oh yeah, it's because the only person you hear about in the news is Gingrich and Romney, and lately Santorum who is so unelectable it's not even funny. All recent polls show Paul vs Obama is the match-up that will get results. Why? Most Obama supporters would vote for Paul, because he isn't a flip flopping bankster lover.
Don't let the mainstream media pick your next president folks. Read, understand, comprehend, vote.
DB Akron:
The only GOP primary so far that saw a surge in numbers was SC as that is a hotbead of Tea Party Craziness, and they will promote any alternative to Obama (as in Newt).
The low turnout in the other races demonstrate how disappointed Republicans as a whole are with this election year's pickings. I am not sure about all the "negative advertising," except that each of the 4 contenders (with Santorum already broke?) is spending a lot of time bad mouthing the others, with little time left to talk about what they would do once elected.
Romney - more tax cuts for the wealthy, higher taxes for the middle class and poor.
Gingrich - print an extra 2 trillion so we can start a colony on the moon/
Paul - cut a trillion from the budget in his first year, from where, no one is absolutely sure....
Santorum - go back to 1957?
Paul's cuts come from overseas wars, less welfare, less medicare/medicaid, ending 4 federal departments (education, commerce, interior, and HUD), and by ending all the discretionary spending and blank checks given to the CIA. Also, by reigning int he federal reserve to get our money back (remember that Federal Rserve Audit Ron Paul finally got which revealed a $16,000,000,000,000 discrepancy? I do). Soooooo, yeah, we know where his cuts come from, next time you go and post your foolishly liberal stance, do a little research.
@ Kasey, go read his proposal and he tells you everything.
Here is a quick explanation straight from his site, took 2 seconds (literally) to find.
http://www.ronpaul2012.com/the-issues/ron-paul-plan-to-restore-america/
@ JG, I was a second to slow lol, thanks for posting.
@ De Tocqueville:
Thanks for that. My greatest concern for Paul is that he himself knows he is too old to really take the job, even if his numbers were better. I also can't see him "freelancing" with one of the others whether in a cabinet position.
As much as people want to believe in him and his libertarian vision, I think he is still in it to be part of the conversation and for his son. Now that the GOP has determined that the overuse of debates was detrimental to the candidates - the more we learned about them, the less we liked them phenomenon, there is little for him to do at this point.
He bikes like 25 miles a day when not on the campaign trail, and is probably in better shape than you.
Paul isn't too old for the job--he's in better shape than pretty much anyone else his age. In fact he's in better shape than the fat Newt at least. You see, being fat causes problems such as high blood pressure, which could lead to a stroke.
@ Kasey, JG and Spartan beat me to it. I will give you credit on your assessment of the debates and it really showing the populace the disaster that is Romney, Gingrich, and Santorum.....well really just about the entire neo-con progressive Republican party. I do know they are trying everything in their power from voter fraud to complete shut outs to keep him out of the lime light. However, I want to point that your comment about his "Libertarian vision" and people wanting to believe in it is a little off track. I say this not out of rudeness but in part because as a Libertarian I can tell you that we are essentially what the Republican party was supposed to be before it was hijacked, and the biggest positive is the young voters realize this and that is what will propel the future. Also this is why the Libertarian Party has grown leaps and bounds and as of 2009 constituted roughly 23% of the voting base.
http://www.cato-at-liberty.org/how-many-libertarian-voters-are-there/
Also, I don't particularly care for his son. He bends a little to much to the Neo-Con side on some issues for me.
Also, there will never be another Ron Paul if he's not elected, so why not even give him a look at? It's one thing to pledge your overwhelming support for one candidate but it's another to do so without even considering your options and alternatives. Personally, I wouldn't mind voting for Romney if he picked Paul as his V.P. because Romney would probably be impeached within months for his loopy taxes and off-shore accounts which violate U.S. law, and are grounds for impeachment. Also, Ron Paul would be able to keep him in check, pointing out any wrongdoings to the media. Other than that, I cannot even consider the other candidates, after what I've heard, seen, and read.
The only second wind this deranged loon will get is from one of two sources: the breeze blowing from one ear clear through to the the other and/or the wind breaking from his own behind.
JG:
Sounds like you two are ready for some serious dating, but that doesn't make Paul any more electable.
@ De Tocqueville:
If you look back, even in recent history, you will see that there has been a libertarian strain that comes to light every time one of the 2 parties splits. It's there, just under the surface.
The last few times it appeared was in '76 - '80, and then '92. First it was Carter v. Kennedy, 2 sides representing the 2 wings of the Democratic Party. And by 1992, the GOP had had a 12 year run with 2 Reagan terms and 1 Bush Senior run, and America was looking at what appears now to be a very quaint debt problem.
If you look at other countries and how many political parties they usually have running at one time, it seems all to obvious how the system here is rigged for a two party system, so you may have to look at the election process here if you want to see a third party be more than mere symbolism. Alternatively, the GOP will likely try to absorb the libertarians....
Sorry to burst all of the Ron Paulites bubbles. I know you believe earnestly. He might be right about a lot of the stuff he speaks of. There are a lot of things the government does today that under the strictest interpretation of the constitution do not fly. I agree with some of his basic positions, but stongly disagree on more than a couple. Here's the thing though...if the SCOTUS says these agencies and their rulings and actions are constitutional, there is very little that the POTUS can do about it without violating most of the bill of rights himself. Despite the fact that I agree with some of his argument, Paul is unelectable in a general election. He just is. Sadly most Americans, today are not smart enough or will not take the time to educate themselves on constitutional issues. Most Americans today look to the fed. government as the great protector or the great handout (nanny state) for all of our everyday issues...regardless of what the original intent of our founding fathers was. As long as our hyper partisan congress continues to operate the way that it does, drastic change is probably not going to happen no matter who is elected president. So despite yours and his best intent here...no way that Ron Paul will ever appeal to a wider audience than he has so far in this election, and he will fall very short of gaining enough delegates to win the nomination. And even if he did...there is no way that a majority of Americans would ever vote him in as president. Sorry...that is just a fact.
Ghengis Khan
You are so wrong that you are not worth the time to comment on.
@ Kasey, I agree that Ron Paul's bill to allow other parties the same ease of access to the ballot as the 2 parties have now. Also I don't see Libertarians allowing themselves to be absorbed by Republicans, however I would be all for a take over of the Republican Party lol.
All of these starry-eyed Ron Paul followers, waxing philosophic about the constitution, and always mentioning the original intent of the founding fathers.
Well, the truth is, a majority of the founding fathers were slaveowners. States' rights were built in to the constitution as a compromise, not the foundation of the whole set-up. The constitution was written during the beginning of the industrial revolution. The founders realized that the world would change, and therefore made the constitution flexible so it could change with the times.
Government regulation isn't unconstitutional. Neither are social programs.
Try to run foreign policy like Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin, and we'll all be speaking Chinese within 10 years.
Get over it. This is the 21st century.
Actually, Obama beats all the GOP candidates in 1vs1 polls. Romney comes closest to beating Obama, so if I were a GOPer, I would choose him.
You know even though I am not a Ron Paul supporter it really irks me to here people call him crazy, there is nothing crazy about the views he espouses, especially in comparison to the the rest of the GOP. I don't agree with his "free market" philosophy, perhaps if there were no Republicans you could allow the market to police itself, but with the current state of human evolution, or lack there of, regulation is extremely necessary. These people have proven they have no qualms about about destroying the planet for profit or selling us @!$%# and telling us it's candy.
Cream might rise to the top but there is always that thin layer of bacteria that begins to flourish on top of the cream if you dont stir it once in a while.
Kasey -
Iowa was the first surge and had multiple surges that Santorum won by a nose
New Hampshire was expected to be Romney
South Carolina was expected to be Gingrich Who surged to a wider lead
Florida was supposed to be Romney, but Gingrich Surged, then Romney re-emerged from negative Campaigning and solid debates.
Nevada was expected to be Romney, but his numbers were down from 2008
Where have you been?
I disagree Romney is not the only one who can beat Obama. Obama's record is pitiful. Why would anyone vote for Obama? I believe once the nominee is picked Obama looses on every issue.
Romney is no Republican. He is a liberal and I do not support him. He has been wrong on so many republican issues. And I don't even agree that being in business has prepared him to be president. Although if he is the nominee you bet I will vote for him.
ABO.
Sham79, why would you waste your vote on second best- vote for Ron Paul.
Ron Paul might be in great physical shape, but his mental faculties are what I'd be concerned about.
Sometimes Ron sounds like he's borderline senile. He is intelligent, but even the most intelleigent can lose their mental faculties.
His son Rand is a bigot. I'd be wary of Rand having too much influene on his father's WH decisions/policies, if Ron goes the way of Reagan.
Beware of Rand Paul in 2016 if these bunch of liberal and so called conservatives don't get this country turned around in the next four years. That is if we still have a country.
Rand Paul would be crazy NOT to run in 2016 with all the campaign infrastructure his dad has built in the past 5 years.
DB:
If you look at the numbers of people going to vote you will see what I mean. Voter turnout is lower everywhere except in SC so far.
My best guess, and I could be wrong, we will see, is that the Tea Party burned up way too much of its political capital debating the President's place of birth, and thoughtless dialogue regarding deficit spending, debt ceilings, etc., discrediting themselves to a larger audience.
America wants strong leadership with an optimistic vision for the future. I have my own guess for who we will choose.
From my vantage point, the GOP is in structural decline, and we could see a new sort of party form in the near future.
Interesting conversation, though.
I can't decide if Ron Paul is simply on his retirement road trip, if his aluminum foil hat is on too tight, if he's an isolationist, an appeaser, or thinks he has a DeLorean in his back yard. When asked how he would fix problems, his answer always starts with a "we shouldn't have...in the first place". Pointing out a shouldn't have isn't fixing anything.
@1POV
Ron Paul is against military adventurism ala George Bush's long forgotten campaign promise in 2000. That is not isolationism.
RP's call to abolish the department of education was part of the Republican platform until the War Party(ie the neo-conservatives) took over.
The reinstatement of the gold standard has long been floated by some economists and politicians. Ron Paul certainly did not invent the idea.
Anything else 1POV?
Going back to voter turn out being low, don't forget that two of the contests were caucuses. This closes the voting off to a much narrower group of people, and has the effect of having more extreme candidates doing well. (Santorum and Paul vs. Romney and Gingrich)
I am sorry all the students and young graduates do not know. We adults have been listening to ron paul for 30 + years . His ideas are not new . the 1940's are long past .Ayn rand died bitter and old on SSI . YES rp's heroine took social security. His history as an elected official is 1 bill passed in 32 years .
I do not care how many babys he delivered . Either join the real presidential race or please stop crying about ron paul . his ideas where main stream or cutting edge in 1940 .
Clotho they figure a dead man walking will beat Obama.
And they are wrong as usual .
I wouldn't waste my vote on rick, he is no different then any other typical Washington insider. I checked his record when it comes to pork waste. Rick calls himself a true conservative, I dont think so people. A real true conservative doesnt go on a pork spending spree. !!!!
If you are making 300k or below in this country and you vote for one of these greedy republican idiots, you are, quite literally, voting to take your money and hand it over to the rich! If you are making over that and only care for yourself then I could certainly see why you would want one of these canidates to win.
Republican tax cuts for the wealthy provided Americans making more than $1 million with a $128,832 benefit, while Americans earning from $40,000 to $50,000 got an $860 benefit on average.
Sound fair to you? NO? That's because it isn't. The deck is already stacked against the poor and middle-class and these jokers want to make it even more unjust.
deprogrammer, I love your icon. Pinky! I think Pinky and the Brain would be a better presidential ticket than either Obama/Biden or any Republican ticket that might come out of this whole mess. If only they were real...
gee wilikers Batman - Pennsylvania actually KICKED HIS A S S out of office. NOW we should consider HIM AS "PRESIDENT'?
The most current poll in Pennsyvania has Santorum is leading.
I compared the records between Santorum and Bob Casey, both were very active, but Santorum was more active and his accomplishments are much greater than Senator Casey's.
If he wins the presidency, Pennsylvania looks really stupid.
I looked and then I looked away. Plus there is Rand Paul. I don't think he's going anywhere.
DB Akron, Santorum is not going to be the GOP nominee. I'd be happy to bet you $10 thousand on that if I were Mitt Romney. Santorum does not have the support of the Republican establishment...that belongs to Romney. As one who has closely followed the career ups and downs of the man whose name is synonymous with something disgusting, I can tell you Santorum simply has too many checks in the minus column to ever be elected to another public office. It will all come to light in due time, but if you can't wait, just go read his wikipedia page.
@kornfed
May you rest in peace.
Santorum really hasn't got any serious plans for how to fix things. I don't believe he can make it through to the convention, he's just too weak of a candidate. Can not picture him as a President.
None of the Republicans want to fix anything.
They want to return to Trickle-Up economics.
If you vote Republican and are not a millionaire, you are literally voting against your interests.
wow..are you from cuba... No wonder you sound socialist...
You don't sound like a socialist either. But what you do sound like also starts with the letter 's'.
If you vote Republican and you do not work for a living and kill babies, love drugs, love giving freebies to people who dont work and invite illegal immigrants in to take whatever they want, and love spending spending spending to take the national debt from 10.4 trillion to 15.3 trillion.....than you are really voting against your interests!
It's a shame that money buys election these days. Santorum doesn't have a chance.
I can't make any sense out of this rant. But I'll just say that Democrats = (over)spenders on domestic issues, and Republicans = (over)spenders on domestic issues, neither are right. Ron Paul 2012. He'll cut $1,000,000,000,000 in year one (yes, i counted the zeroes right), and balance the budget in 3 years. After his first term, our economy would be full-steam ahead.
@ Corky, you forgot Obama is responsible for the $4.9 Trillion that has put us up to $16 Trillion in debt, Bush went from $5 Trillion to the $10 Trillion you stated. Your sad and misguided diatribe actually refers to your precious Democrats as well, or have you not been watching Obama's proxy wars and his steady increase in military spending? Do yourself a favor and try and be objective and find the truth.
The only person to refute all of what you tried to say is in fact, Ron Paul.
@ Floyd, I have to agree with your first comment, however I am glad a outright fascist like Santorum has no real chance.
We could eliminate national debt in about 15 years by killing all the tax cuts, breaks, and loopholes for the wealthy. Make them pay more than we do!
Bush put the deficit too 12 trillion and the Iraq war was not over
And his business buddies needed all those bail-outs...One by Bush and one by Obama but Obama had no choice...Bush was a dumb-ass
Tom
A lot of stuff Gingrich passed was WRITTEN by Santorum.
@ Fireshark-Actually, the wealthy do pay more taxes than we do. How do you define wealthy? I am a single-parent of one child and I got back more than what I paid into. I made $20,000 last year. The money I got back was due to credits that the "poor" get.
De Tocqueville
Resorting to name calling already?
Big Mac
12 Trillion is funny! Forget a decimal point in there?
These are the same comments but different article. MSNBC what a farce.you are a fake.
It was $10.6 Trillion when he left.
http://www.factcheck.org/2011/08/reid-wrong-on-bushs-economic-record/
The current debt clock has the national debt listed as $15.3 Trillion
http://www.treasurydirect.gov/NP/BPDLogin?application=np
http://www.usdebtclock.org/
http://www.federalbudget.com/
Which would put Obama's contribution at $4.7 Trillion at the time. My $16 Trillion figure comes from the CBO projection of another $1 Trillion for 2012.
http://thehill.com/blogs/on-the-money/budget/207603-cbo-budget-economy-worse-than-estimated
And Obama had to issue the other bailout along with the Dodd-Frank Bill that guarentees future bailouts for his Wall Street friends that put him in office.
http://financialservices.house.gov/Blog/Default.aspx?postid=244406
As well as Fannie and Freddie and their continued hands in the bailout pot.
@ Fireshark, you can find in many different accounting sites that the rich do pay the most of the tax burden even with the "tax cuts", the better argument would be to control the top three spending measures that effect us the most...those being Medicare, Social Security, and Military spending. Then we overhaul the tax system, I would rather see either the fair tax or more idealistically zero tax on the money I earn.
@ DB, where? I think you need to reread my comment FULLY. There is no name calling in there.
Sorry about that.
Sorry, I was there...I don't need your stupid...I pay attention to this stuff...I keep track of my 401k (killed by bush), my property value (killed by bush) and so many other things...I am a retired engineer... I have time to PAY ATTENTION.
WoW...some of my earlier posts don't exist even though they were highly rated...I scream foul and censorship
I'm so broke I can't even afford to pay attention anymore.
big mac-4590939: I have the same problem with the posts. Being the humble person I am though, I just never say anything. Aye Gwad!, I say my posts are being stolen! Snatched right off the screen! I'm being pirated right in front of my own face! Um, ah, glad I got that off my chest. The reality is, at least in my case, after I group my words and post, then go off somewhere else, the message I left gets ashamed of itself, then, realizing i'm somewhere else, runs away and hides. Been going on so long I wouldn't be surprised if many aren't dead by now.
I am humble myself...but I call BS when I step in it...don't run away if you are right...Brother...just look away when they won't see the truth.
MSNBC...if you are going to steal my stuff...I am for hire
You're right. Killing babies isn't much of a living. Still, in this economy...
Point Corky.
You said in the first line "if you do not work for a living". I can't be giving freebies to people who don't work because you've already supposed that I'm one of those people, and therefore would have nothing to give myself.
Now that's just plain silly talk is what that is.
Once again, refer to line 1 where you've already supposed I'm not working. I can't be spending what I'm not earning. I can't pay taxes either then can I?
One might consider himself a fool in that instance, yes. On that we agree.
big mac-4590839 - you made your comments in the thread started by Rick's Real, which was collapsed by those here who opposed what he said. Because the main comment was collapsed, everything that responded to it collapsed also. This isn't being done by MSNBC, but by fellow posters here who click on the ! and mark a comment Inflammatory or No Value. Eventually, most of them get restored.
If you'll note, next to Rick's Real's name, it says "Comment Collapsed by Community" and then a + symbol. Click on that symbol and all the comments will appear. Just so you know how it works :).
Big mac - although my 401k took a hit too, the investments I chose faired better than the average. My kid's 529's were well above average. Congress's failure, and by that I mean BOTH parties, to heed the warnings of regulators, and republican leadership and investigate Freddie and Fannie is the problem. The president was asking for powers for regulators to trace what was going on and got stonewalled.
Dan-129503, address issues, not users. You are suspended for a day for violating rule # 1 of the Code of Honor.
Let me stop you right there, Corky, and remind you that the de facto mouthpiece of the Republican right, Rush Limbaugh, is a drug addict.
Killing babies is illegal. So is murdering doctors who perform legal abortions.
Just so we have that straight.
Watch out now Rick Santorum ! Mitt Romney going to release his secret weapon, 30 sec ad on you next, just like Newt.
Please not the evelasting stench of santorum!! www.spreadingsantorum.com
Gross, Santorum. Why is he abusing us with his existence. Makes me cringe every time I hear his name.
I personally just don't like the man. But I will say that Santorum has been impressive in the debates.
GO RICK! This is the person the GOP should get behind, he truly is a conservative, a good Catholic boy, with a large family, seems pretty genuine and watching him try to tack to the middle of hell even try to tack to the far right of middle in the general election would be a real treat! Rick doesn't demigogue it, and is following his belief's consistently. THe anti-abortion, anti-gay, anti-birthcontrol, anti-social security/medicare and pro-war folks should be pouring money into RIck campaign!
I know, Santorium/Romney in 2012!! WootWoot!
I hope they do, Pat. Santorum doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell of becoming the GOP nominee. If by some fluke he did, he'd be defeated in the general election.Everyone who believes that American women have the right to birth control and legal abortion, every senior, every LGBT, and everyone who believes that peace is better than war will vote against Santorum.
Dead man walking...but at least he's spending money so he's creating jobs along the way.
tpjp,
these campaigns tend to spend more than they have. usually these losing candidates come out of it with a huge debt load. then they continue to apply to the national convention of their party to foot the bills for them. in the meantime main street businesses carry their burden of campaigning.
Yeah thats why bachmann and cain stayed in till after the matching funds day lmao their is no end to repub sillyness
One thing for sure. When most voters think of "wind" they think of Santorum. Still campaigning when he has no chance of winning the nomination let alone the White House borders on self flagellation. Kind of like the chanting monks in Monty Python.
Or perhaps in his case of Santorum, self-flatulation... Oh Rick, don't you just wish you could put this whole sticky mess behind you?
Ringling Brothers would like some of these clowns back the circus needs them
Wheels,\
Speaking of Ringling Brothers, I believe P.T. Barnum was referring to liberal Democrats when he made the statement, "There's a fool born every minute."
It may have been: a sucker born every minute. Try and get your facts straight. I know it's tough for a right winger. Or Debra Winger. But I digress.
Bill, if I could give u a hundred votes up, I'd do it. That's the best one I've heard all night. You're da man.
Floyd - Actually the Ringling Brothers were thinking of you and yes throw in the Brooklyn Bridge !
Bill-Is that a Train reference?
Santorum has excellent ideas and a good philosophy!
Just say no to the Christian Taliban.
@ P. Walker, no, he doesn't you obviously have no clue as to what the Constitution is, do you?
JG314,
You obviously have no idea of the constitution or any sense of morals. Santorum gets criticized for not wanting to kill babies and you liberals hate him for that. If you ask me you liberals are nothing but murderes and sick, disgusting human beings. Scratch that....liberals are nothing but murderers and sick and disgusting. Any person who votes to kill babies should have their humanity card revoked and enjoy a nice hott dip into the inferno hell. Enjoy it there you murderer.
thanks for your input, Corky! I know, have read, and fought for the Constitution of the United States. Have you, JG? You are like Powell in Wa. State; It's okay to kill your own kids, so what's the difference if they are still in the womb or not, right? Semper Fi, Lib.
@ JG, Obviously neither Corky or P.Walker have read or understood the Constitution. Also it is funny how they don't realize that their war mongering is killing babies and pregnant woman in other countries with Obama's drone strikes and such, thereby contradicting their own argument here.Semper Fi and a big Hooyah (Hospital Corpsman here) right back at you P. Walker, I however understood the Constitution and the severity of the oath I took.
The only person who truly follows the Constitution is Ron Paul. You see, if you don't like the Constitution you can amend it, but you can't simply ignore it. Ron Paul is someone who won't ever throw it out the window.
I read the Constitution and fully understand it. I have a 3.6 average in a six years of college, so I have excellent comprehension, De! Maybe you should re-read it. Thanks for your service, Bro.
In 2006 The people of Pennsylvania voted him OUT of the Senate.
they said NO to him by the largest losing margin for an incumbent Republican Senator in the history of the United States!
Why is he even out campaigning?
I have bro, and have an average GPA of 3.836 with a double major in Political Science and History before I start my graduate degree, and have had to study it continually so again please reread and fully comprehend it. It does not allow us to use its laws in a relative manner, instead these are absolutes unless otherwise amended by the Congress and ratified by the States. And thank you for your service as well.
Also, that wasn't a slam bud. A lot of people just like to pick and choose when the Constitution applies (not saying that is you), like a lot of Republicans are for these unconstitutional wars I have fought in yet are against Obama's proxy wars and vice versa with liberals. I mean look at Eygpt as the prime example both parties supported a tyrant of a dictator to do their bidding and when there was signs of an overthrow Obama got onboard talking about how great this Democracy would be for America and now they are holding Americans hostage, because they remember who put the tyrant in place and kept him there. I am definitely not siding with the Egyptians on this, but merely laying it out in a very overly shortened and simple way. But at the same time Republicans lobby hard for anti-abortion laws in the name of not murdering babies, yet that is what they are cheering in our wars (whether they know that or not) because like me I am sure you can attest to the many mishaps that happen with surgical strikes let alone drone strikes.
Well, the fact that it took you 6 years to complete college (I assume you're not a doctor) is nothing to brag about!
Ron Paul lies about the Constitution. Gold standard indeed. God forbid one of his supporters read the document.
"No State shall enter into any Treaty, Alliance, or Confederation; grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal; coin Money; emit Bills of Credit; make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts; pass any Bill of Attainder, ex post facto Law, or Law impairing the Obligation of Contracts, or grant any Title of Nobility."
Somewhere in that do you see anything that forces American currency to be backed by gold? If yes, repeat second grade. This is a restriction on states printing their own money, making treaties, and generally being treasonous.
If they have a pile of gold for some reason, and since some ancient cultures think of gold coins as currency, they can mint that into coins to pay debts without breaking the currency restriction to pay debts. In any case, Ron Paul has twisted this and the rest of the Constitution into a fantasy. If he understood states' rights, he'd understand that this was a restriction on them, and since he does, he's a liar.
@ Dante, he doesn't lie if you read the Constitution and understand it you would realize that what you wrote proves and utterly supports what he is saying. No STATE, ie: the 50 states have that write because those rights were enumerated to the Federal government. That is not a retraction of State rights, the CONGRESS has the power of setting coinage not the the States:
http://www.usconstitution.net/xconst_A1Sec8.html
Please comprehend the document before posting inaccurate assessments of our Constitution.
I think a couple of you are confusingly warping one poster's conservative viewpoints as being Obama's weaknesses.
And, there is nothing in the Constitution that states aborting human fetuses is a right. There are so many things the Founding Fathers couldn't even imagine occurring by contemporary society decades later (and the people or government having such an askewed sense of basic values to say the Constitution protects/encourages it).
Santorum is criticized(rightfully so) because he wants to legislate other people's sex lives and take away choices for women. We don't need to go back to Dark Age style of thinking.
Santorum sure is interested in gay sex. He may be closeted, and rebelling against his own inner desires.
Any person who votes for Santorum, is ignorant and letting their religious beliefs get in the way of personal freedom for all.
American Lobo, I am no Santorum fan, although he has some good points, but anyway you seem to have an infatuation with his sexual preferences as well. I am guessing you like the preppy conservative type?
PC:
I take note how Santorum likes to focus on gays and their sex lives.
Stop trying to project your own fetishes, and elaborate on those "good points" you claim Santorum has.
American Lobo - it's the press that has the fettish for the issue, not Santorum. Every debate the moderators asked the questions. When out campaigning someone in the crowd asked the question.
Asking because you don't know is okay, but asking for asking sake is about trying to trip someone up. What probably makes some people really angry is was his answer to the final try that usually trips conservatives up.
"What would you do if you found out one of your children is gay?"
Answer " I would love them just as I did before I found out and just hope they would change their mind."
So you think that women did not have abortions back then? Modern science did not invent abortion. Something that you may or may not know is that there is an herb that women have used for centuries that will cause an abortion.
Abortion should not be an issue in government at all. It should be a private matter.
Lisa, according to that logic, the government has no business intervening in suicide and the abuse of drugs either.
That's exactly right DB they shouldn't, they also shouldn't be deciding who can or cannot enter civil contracts (marriage) and more than half the crap they intervene in now.
Corky-3849596 and DtotheICK, you are both suspended for a day for violating rule # 1 of the Code of Honor.
Actually the government should have no business at all injecting itself into an adults personal business.
I know a person who committed suicide. Many people loved her she made numerous attempts before she was finally successful. She would call people in the middle of the night telling them she was getting ready to off herself and every time with the exception of the last time someone came to save her. The ones closet to her looked almost relieved at her funeral because they realized she finally was released.
I wonder how much how much was spent trying to save this women from herself. She spent more time in the mental hospital than most people do at work. It was a very sad case. The government started intervening with her in her early 20's personally I think it had something to with the anti-psychotic drugs they put her on which most of them had suicide as one of the known side effect.
The government is not my daddy and I don't want it to be either and nobody should want that.
A civil contract has no meaning if the government is not involved...that's the point of the thing. Who do you think enforces it?
2nd wind isn't going to get him the "BLAH" peoples vote. The guy is literally an Idiot. Go away already.
No republican has a chance of beating President Obama.
Colin Powell does. Maybe Huntsman. Oh you meant in the clown car primaries. No, no they don't.
You may be right if the economy turns around but if things get worst or even stay the same OBAMA is finished. Yes Bush spent 600 Billions dollars (backed by the democratic controlled congress), and made our dept approx. 10 Trillion dollars but Obama spent over 5 Trillion all by his self approaching now 16 Trillion. He's spend more than all of the other Presidents before him combined with nothing to show for it but a (whole tenth of a percentage increase in jobs. I really wanted Obama to succeed because it would show that our country doesn't use race as a litmus test, but if that statement holds true he's finished because he's has done almost irreparable harm to this country.
Read Atlas Shrugged! It parallels how this administration demonizes and looks at the people that are successfull. One last question. "Who is John Galt."
You do Know Aynn Rand Died bitter and old On SSI right ??//?? Right ? LOL No you dont do you , just say whatever someone told you LOL LOL
Deko- I'm confused, if the debt was 10 trillion when he took over and it's now 15 trillion how does that calculate that Obama has spent more than all the other Presidents combined?
@DeKo #12.2
John Galt is a egotistical meglomaniac in a work of fiction written by an egotistical meglomaniac.
Hate to bring it up but Santorum has too much baggage and I mean kids...all 7 or 8 of them.. His attention will often be diverted from his important job due to his handicapped child... For me it is no...no... He should stick with his current position and take care of his kids....
Intelectually the smartest one is Gingrich. About two heads above Romney. Well, will see who is going to be nominated....
I too, prefer Gingrich, as one who can win AND mop up the floor with Obama in any debate! Barack would never debate him however, unless the questions were pre-screened, and on his teleprompter. He would never consent to a one on one totally unrehearsed debate. He may be an idiot and a liar, but he's not stupid.
P. Walker 2000111: Sort of like the last great communicator from your side, the Crawford Village Idiot. Couldn't go into a debate in 2008 without an earpiece and receiver that permitted his handlers to scream in his ear a coherent answer to basic questions. Or, one who was not allowed to go into a deposition unattended and had to be accompanied by the dark lord Cheney.
Yeah, you guys have some great debaters on your side. Sheesh.
You're a neo-con. Oh, how I laugh at your folly. It's people like you who got us into this financial and global mess in the first place. We need free-markets, more freedom, and less world policing to get out. Something a neo-con like you can't understand...
P- Still singing the same ole tune? Learn something new, cause your same ole rhetoric is boring. Gingrich and Obama debating, who would win? Gingrich has already proven he can't debate Romney, and if you can't debate Malibu Mitt, you don't have a chance against the President! LMAO
Hummbird-Just because the tune is old, doesn't make it bad. Gingrich debated Romney quite handily. Obama would be mincemeat! I am not here to entertain you with my rhetoric, but to speak the truth, and the truth, thusly, has been spoken. Humm on that!
Have you ever seen Obama debate? He would destroy Gingrich. Newt hasn't spoken the truth since about 1992.
Obama only debates on pre screened questions! He sucks! You make me laugh, Tripps!
Will Newt be able to debate without a barrage of verbal attacks? "Are you really a Christian? Where are you really from? You're a commie, aren't you? I see you support the fags, after all you support them getting married and serving with soldiers who don't want them around." Yeah, I like to see how long he could debate with Obama without turning into an @!$%#.
What debate did he lose in 2008? Or ho about every time he has addressed the GOP opposition?
Even they describe it as being scolded by their fathers.
Yes, I think it's preposterous to say that Obama would beat Gingrich in a debate. I personally loathe Newet Gingrich, but you have to admit, he has a sharp tongue and mind and would rip Obama a new a**hole.
Dan - You also forgot Santorum should get back to his lobbying - I'd hate to see the list of his customers - scary!
Problem with Gingrich in any speech is we have to fact check every word that comes out of the guy's mouth.
Republicans think that Gingrich is smart. And maybe he is by republican standards. Is he smart enough to know that it is over for him? I doubt it.
Lets NOT be silly Regardless what you wish to call the crap you folks have been having , Those where NOT debates . LMAO newt gingrich what tea pubs THINK a smart man sounds like .
Capt. Tripps-Nice name. First a Train reference, now a Stephen King reference. We Viners are good at pop culture, aren't we?
Will this circus never end!
A few who speak to the fringes of society are in the media spot light again.
Come on! Follow the money and ask what these
right wings nut are gaining. Jesus
(sorry right wingers), I wish any of
them would talk to what the problems are facing this country. No, according to them, its gay marriage! Get rid of these clowns and give us a candidate
worth looking at. Reps, you’ve lost my vote over this silliness.
Have you not been listening to Ron Paul, he is constantly talking about the actual issues at hand that is destroying this country. From the problems created by Democrats to the problems created by Republicans, which is funny because they are mostly the same problems perpetuated by both parties.
De Toc, they don't want answers or solutions, they just wanna bitch about the other guy.
De Tocqueville - yes I listened to Ron Paul's vision of his 1875 world - I also read all of Ayn Rands books which by the way his son Rand Paul is named after, I also read all of the John Birch Society's communist rants which Ron Paul is a frequent guest speaker
Have you?
Of Course he has not Barbara , the people that have studied are not sure WHAT the tea tards are going for .It IS definitely not smart policies .
No he is not named after Ayn Rand. If you can get misinformation on something as silly as this and spout it like the gospel truth no wonder that the truth might escape you.
Hey Ron Paulites----Does ron Paul think Eisenhower was a card carrying member of the communist party?
Lisafrequency - Actually Rand Paul is named after Ayn Rand - Ron Paul has stated such and I don't "spout" anything I haven't thoroughly researched
I have heard Ron Paul say he did not name him after Ayn Rand. So here is Rand Paul himself talking about his name.
http://youtu.be/oD-R_OeP6tU
Good luck with that Lisa, I've already told Barbara, she obviously doesn't listen.
No one really wants a national pastor. We'd prefer to select our own. And one with a heart. This guy's just a clown.
National pastor ? YOU have hit your head sir .
"This guy's a clown" Clearly you refer to yourself. As it stands now, we have a muslim as president, trying to be our national pastor, but you don't seem to have a problem with that.
oh,really- Personally I don't believe there are enough of you bigots and racists to keep Obama from being re-elected.
Frothy the no man!
Republican 4H - Hateful, heartless, homophobic, and humorless.
Anything to keep Ron Paul's surge out of the headlines, I can't believe they had to prop Santorum up this time, Romney must just be THAT unpopular in these states...
Ron Paul all the way! He's the only candidate, including Obama, who wants to really change anything.
Too bad he wants to change it to the 1800s.
Sorry Paulites, it's just not happening.
@ Capt Tripps, Someone obviously has no comprehension skills or they would know how off point they are. There is no reasoning with sheeple like you.
I agree, De Toc!
I'm the sheeple? I bet if I put a list of Dr Paul's foibles and failures up here, you'd give me an answer straight out of his campaigns talking points.
Why don't you go educate yourself.
You know what, screw it, here's where I disagree wtih Dr Paul - I value the Department of Education, and I recognize it's goal - to try to ensure a standard education throughout the United States, and not some regional pot luck. I do NOT believe that businesses are so responsible as to be trusted with regulating themselves with regard to pollution, worker safety, workers rights, employment discrimination, etc etc. I also don't believe in letting companies practice discrimination under the expectation that society will somehow punish them, in contradiction to 400 years history in America alone. I think Ron Paul shows either a dangerous ignorance of our history or a rejection of the facts as they stand. And that's not even getting into his monetary policies, or his inability or refusal to oversee people speaking and writing in his name.
I disagree with many of the man's policies, as stated by HIM, and his campaign. Not all of them but enough that I wouldn't want to see him become President, especially considering how many of them are geared towards gutting the branch of government he'd actually have power over, vs the other candidates who'll never be able to actually effect the change they generally tout regarding abortion, reproductive rights, gay military service/rights/marriage - issues the country, and more importantly our courts, are becoming more and more progressive about.
So Capt Tripps, only our government know's how to regulate us? We are not capable as a civilized society? Geez, I thought we were more progressive than that. We still need the government to babysit us? Really? The government has been doing such a fine job haven't they?
@capt tripps theres a list of things that i can list that are bad about every candiate that is running and every one that has run in the past and every one that will run in the future and just because YOU personally dislike a canidate doesnt mean he isnt good if you dont like him dont vote for him
PC - no, not judging by our history. We have a horrible record of self regulated our excesses, especially corporations. Left to their own devices they abuse their workers and destroy the environment, anything in pursuit of higher profits.
And yea, I'd say overall our government has done a great job protecting us thru regulation. You just don't see it when it works, everyday. Only the screw ups.
Jerremy - my whole point was that I wouldn't vote for him, and why. I do have the right to try and convince others not to as well, just as you try to get people to support him.
He's not unpopular in just those states....
RON PAUL REVOLUTION 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL 20 % or less is 20% or less . I honestly hate it that i am old enough to remember the last 40 years . Ron Pauls record in 32 Years . 1 , i said 1 bill passed . Naming his idiot child after some FASCIST bitch RAND check .do you nice people ever read anything , besides the toilet paper wrapper ?
pffft. dud.
carpenter Rand Paul in his OWN words:
youtube.com/watch?v=oD-R_OeP6tU
His name is Randall Howard Paul "Randy" growing up and his wife shortened to Rand.
Now get off the Ayn Rand BS.
Spare the suspenseful headlines. Romney will win and lose to President Obama.
You liberals obviously have no idea of the constitution or any sense of morals. Enjoy it there you murderers.
Corky, didn't you know? In Liberal Fairyland, the good people kill babies. Hahhahahahahahhahaahha.
So you want kill liberals because of a vote? Not that they've actually had an abortion even,(which would just be crazy itself), but that they support the right of others to make that decision for themselves?
Yeah, you really have the high road all to yourself.
What does the Constitution have to do with abortions? Santorum has rather low marks among the Republicans, he'll get dumped fast by the Democrats and the Independents.
Corky - Remember this?
The Norwegian police on Saturday charged a 32-year-old man, whom they identified as a Christian fundamentalist with right-wing connections, over the bombing of a government center here and a shooting attack on a nearby island that together left at least 92 people dead.
Many victims were just kids - maybe you better seek some help before you go to far - wonder if the Government has seen your post.
Abortion IS NOT Baby killing, and liberals are not murderers. This is the disgusting rhetoric of hate. Americans are getting very sick and tired of it.
Here is the scoop on pro lifers
To the point & funny
Hahahaha Corky! .....can't....stop....laughing....
What are we to do? Romney is Daddy George reincarnated and about as exciting as last night's warmed over meat loaf. Gingrich is smart enough but has the morals of an alley cat and the ethics of a Wall Street banker. Paul would do well campaigning against William Jennings Bryan. Santorum is just a lay preacher with nothing else to offer. I guess that leaves four more years of Bam-Bam and the hope of a new congress that has a vocabulary greater than "NO!"
The only thing new in the 2013 Congress will be a Republican majority leader in the Senate.
As far as fantasies about Dems taking the House, I suggest medication for that.
I'm just not sure if the Repubs will have 52 senators in January or 53.
Obama's your only prayer for anything positive in 9 months, deal with it.
your assumption that the ELECTORATE will issue the repugs a pass is, at the very least, "overly optimistic" There is a clear tendency to "throw the bums out" - BOTH PARTIES
It sounds like ya all don't, but I really like Santorum. I do think he truly is the most conservative out of the bunch and I like most of his policies as written on his web site. I've read all of the candidates policies on their websites and although I don't like Romney's healthcare platform, he would be my second choice. Gingrich only has one attribute...he does well in debates (isn't that why we hired the current President and just see how that worked out). Gingrich has too much baggage. Paul is too one dimensional for me. I'm praying that Santorum comes ahead in all three states tonight, one of which I'll be voting in!
Vote Rick Santorum in the next 45 states, the only candidate who will deport illegal scum.
Santorum leads Obama 45% to 44% in the latest Rasmussen poll, the same poll whose last pre-election was within 1% of 2008's results.
Romney's a liberal, don't waste your vote on him.
rick santorum is a crazy lunatic... screw that.
Most of us will never be retarded enough to vote for him... or newt gingrich. EVER!
The guy thinks abortions cause beast cancer, he's dangerously delusional and just stupid.
Santorum is so far out that he won't get close to the nomination---he doesn't like screwing, he is against it--what a platform eh! "High there folks, I am against screwing and all that comes with it, and I want to be your next President so that we can put an end to screwing"! More JUST SAY NO logic from the radical right!
Rasmussen is actually a Republican oriented polling firm -- regardless -- Santorum trails Obama by 9 points according to aggregate polling.
See:
Obama is a great strategist -I would not win against him in a game of chess. He is simply waiting for the Republicans to implode.Waiting for the dust to settle .It will be at that time they ( the Democrats) come to use all the negativity of the Republican nomination process against them. It would be a logical move
So if Romney is the Republican choice -will you vote for him?
Santorum? Wow, what a surprise, I saw a focus group session where about 30 people who said they were GOP supporters were asked; which candidate do you support? About 5 named Santorum, 5 named Newt, 8 named Paul, 8-10 named Mitt R., it sounds like fragmented voter weakness across the spectrum for the candidates. The GOP has to do better with a leader or the GOP will look potentially ineffective come general election time. Jay Stenda
Cap Tripps, there is a valid correlation to what Santorum says about women who abort children and increasing the risk for breast cancer.
Women who HAVE CHILDREN before the age of 30 diminish their risk of developing breast cancer. Ergo, logical deduction can make the argument that by not aborting children in the womb (whether from marital intercourse or amoral acts of passion or drunken hedonistic sex - e.g. college), your are promoting natural hormones and mammary gland use to offset the risk of cancer development by women who are barren by choice later in life.
And since I can post any opinion, too, I'd go so far to say Obama and any other rabid "pro-choice, kill the developing human" type of person, that apparently having an abortion seems to be the liberal mantra to secure secular glory, material wealth and attain status of a self-god on earth...
It's preposterous that birth control and abortions are seen as "medical services" when both clearly prevent the natural, healthy processes of the human body. Tell me any other legit "medical procedures" where the doctor is suppressing healthy body functions or processes? Both birth control and abortion are selfish acts to suit a woman's lifestyle, ego and hatred of self (or life).
Or maybe guys should just learn how to keep it their pants, then we wouldn't have to worry about "killing babies."
Exactly when did he say that? He has what, seven or eight kids? So if he did say it, apparently he doesn't exactly practice what he preaches.
Kids are adopted.
Demdidi
Or maybe guys should just learn how to keep it their pants, then we wouldn't have to worry about "killing babies."
____________________________________
Read the stats below Demdidi --7% abortions due to RAPE/HEALTH probs. The other 93% are consensual pregnancies.
"Why women have abortions
1% of all abortions occur because of rape or incest; 6% of
abortions occur because of potential health problems regarding either the mother
or child, and 93% of all abortions occur for social reasons (i.e. the child is
unwanted or inconvenient).
UNITED STATES
Number of abortions per year: 1.37 Million (1996)
Number of abortions per day: Approximately 3,700
*see: www.abortionno.org/Resources/fastfacts
@ dman: meh. it's legal. get used to it.
my body has a 5 - 10% chance that it will abort that baby all on it's own in the first trimester. if my body can choose to do that, so can i. not much argument about late term abortions, but most of those are wanted children and the health of the mother (whose soul is JUST as important to god, tyvm!) is usually at stake.
god didn't view unborn children as an eye for an eye, otherwise he would have required that if a man accidentally knocked a woman down and she lost the baby, the unborn child's family would have had the right to seek vengeance and kill the man and the man would have had to flee to a city of refuge for the remainder of his days. instead the law said: hand the husband 10 shekels and call it a day. that leaves enough room for me to think that it is up to every woman what happens with her body and she, and only she, can stand before god and explain herself... and he is far more merciful than you, i can guarantee that. the book of Numbers talks of "the breath of life" for a baby... just saying: a lot of wiggle room. god may come back and have more of an issue with people taking away the free will of consenting adults to make their choices before god than those that actually sin. ever think of that?
plus, our founding fathers and the churches of the day were fine with abortion as long as the baby hadn't moved yet (called "quickening"). look it up.
so, i tell you what: if i get pregnant and for whatever reason I can't have it, or don't have the means to take care of it, I'll send you 10 dollars and we'll call it a day. sound good. it worked for god.
No, usually the womans health IS NOT a factor. That's a cop out.
Always good to see the Obamabots here on msn with their Goebbels propaganda machines at full throttle. One simple issue will make you DEMOgogues an irrelevance come november and that issue is shaking this nation to its very core; are you any better off now than you were 4 years ago? This president's claim that unemployment is at record lows doesn't mean anything to the millions of qualified men and women losing their homes, being denied job after job. The only reason unemployment numbers are even down is simply because team obama counts every new guy on the street selling hotdogs as a job.
Late term abortions are usually done due to the woman's health or because some abnormality was found in the fetus that would result in a short and miserable life. Abortions are done because the woman is unable or unwilling to raise a child. Being a parent is hard enough when you want to. Why would you force someone who clearly is unable/unwilling? And after the Republicans force someone to give birth, then they gripe about providing health care to it. If the Catholic Church says you can't use birth control, then the Catholic Church should have to pay child support.
And by the way, who cares that Santorum got a handful of votes? He was never viable and still isn't.
"It's preposterous that birth control and abortions are seen as "medical services" when both clearly prevent the natural, healthy processes of the human body. Tell me any other legit "medical procedures" where the doctor is suppressing healthy body functions or processes? Both birth control and abortion are selfish acts to suit a woman's lifestyle, ego and hatred of self (or life)." Not true, Stop. I'm on birth control in order to promote natural, healthy processes. Until I started taking birth control pills, every month my periods gave me crippling pain in my head and pelvic region and more blood than my doctor felt was healthy. Now I can live my life without having to worry about keeping heavy duty pads and a big bottle of Tylenol around everywhere-in short, I have a normal life now. I personally don't think women should have an abortion every single time they get pregnant, but I also don't feel that it's my place to tell another woman who might want to that she can't.
Note: I accidentally posted this comment on the end of the thread. It was supposed to be here.
I thought the Polls you all like to quote said Newt was the leader?? Mittens better get a new campaign the people he has now are a bunch losers!
E Pluribus Santorum
