Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney staked his claim to the distinction of being the frontrunner for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination with a win Tuesday in Florida’s Republican primary.
Romney easily won the contest, which was limited to only registered Republican voters, followed by former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, the winner of the Jan. 21 South Carolina GOP primary, in a distant second. Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum finished third, and Texas Rep. Ron Paul came in fourth.
Romney, in remarks shortly after polls closed, turned his attention back to President Obama and sought to project Republican unity. Gingrich, meanwhile, defiantly vowed to carry on in his presidential bid, all the way through August's Republican convention.
Romney’s victory reflects a rebound in his fortunes over the past 10 days, during which Gingrich had initially seemed to be charging into Florida with momentum after the Palmetto State victory. The ex-speaker seemed to emerge as a primary threat to Romney’s shot at the nomination, mostly by stoking doubts among conservatives about the former Massachusetts governor’s ideological core.
But Gingrich ran into a barrage of advertising in Florida sponsored by both the Romney campaign and a super PAC working on Romney’s behalf, which questioned the baggage Gingrich had accumulated as speaker, and pointed to the work Gingrich had done as speaker on behalf of troubled mortgage giant Freddie Mac after leaving office.
Mitt Romney addresses supporters after winning the Florida Republican primary, insisting that the heated primary prepares the eventual candidate, and attacking President Obama on the economy and healthcare.
Romney made a veiled reference to the hard-fought Florida battle in his remarks, in which he sought to posture himself as the GOP's standard-bearer.
"A competitive primary does not divide us, it prepares us. And we will win," Romney said, adding later: "I stand ready to lead this party and to lead our nation."
The Romney campaign and the super PAC, Restore Our Future, outspent the Gingrich campaign and a super PAC supporting the former speaker by a 4-to-1 ratio in Florida, a testament to the effectiveness of negative advertising, especially in a large, expensive state that prizes TV ads.
The contest had essentially become a two-man showdown in Florida, since Santorum and Paul – the two other remaining GOP candidates – scarcely competed in Florida, and barely spent any resources in the state.
Gingrich, in his remarks following Florida's results, said the race would be a two-person race going forward as well.
"It is now clear that this will be a two-person race between the conservative leader, Newt Gingrich, and the Massachusetts moderate," the former speaker said of the results in Florida. "We are going to contest every place, and we are going to win, and we are going to be in Tampa as the nominee in August."
Romney's victory over Gingrich, though, was mostly complete, spreading over most parts of the state, and he beat Gingrich among every age, race, gender and income group, according to exit poll data. Romney did particularly well with women, who made up almost half of the primary electorate, and Latinos – who, in Florida, were mostly Cuban voters.
Romney also performed well with voters who rated the economy as their top issue, and voters who named the ability to beat President Obama as the most important quality in a candidate. Both are core strengths of Romney’s candidacy, and Gingrich edged Romney in both categories in South Carolina.
But while the former Massachusetts governor beat Gingrich among self-described conservatives as a whole, the exit poll data suggested that Romney still faces challenges in winning over the most conservative elements of the GOP.
Gingrich beat Romney among “very conservative” voters in the primary, who made up about a third of the electorate. Strong supporters of the Tea Party – who composed roughly 35 percent of voters – also broke for Gingrich.

And while Republican primary voters Tuesday in Florida expressed positive opinions of Romney as a person, about four in 10 voters said his positions on issues are insufficiently conservative. Thirty-eight percent of primary voters said they wished another Republican candidate would enter the race, underscoring the lingering reluctance of Republicans – especially conservatives – to coalesce behind Romney.
But for as much as Romney took strides to tamp down Gingrich during the last 10 days in Florida, he turned his attention back to the president in much of his victory speech.
"Together, we will build an America where 'hope' is a new job with a paycheck, not a faded word on an old bumper sticker," he said.
Still, the primary battle is set to go forward, though Tuesday's contest caps a relatively busy month for the Republican candidates, which saw Santorum eke out a victory in Iowa's Jan. 3 caucuses, and Romney decisively win New Hampshire's Jan. 10 primary.
The campaign is now set to enter a new phase, with a relatively dead period for candidates in the next month.
Nevada and Maine host caucuses on Saturday; Romney won in the former (which has a sizable Mormon population) in 2008. Colorado and Minnesota each hold caucuses on Feb. 7, too. Because caucuses typically favor candidates with money and organization, Romney and Ron Paul, who's focused intently on those contests, are expected to perform best.
Those are the only nominating contests until late February, when Arizona and Michigan host its primaries. The Wolverine State is expected to strongly favor Romney -- it is where he was raised and where his father served as governor.
The structure of the calendar means that Romney could work to secure a stranglehold on the race for the nomination or, if nothing else, dismiss competitors like Gingrich with the kind of relentless advertising that took its toll on the former speaker in the last week.
Gingrich has defiantly vowed to take his candidacy all the way to the Republican convention, signifying the prospect of a prolonged battle for delegates. The former speaker might have his best chance to pick up some of those delegates on March 6 -- the "Super Tuesday" of the 2012 cycle, when a number of southern and more conservative-leaning states, which tend to favor Gingrich, hold their nominating contests.
Santorum commented on the results in Nevada after a town hall, arguing that the Florida results show that he -- and not Gingrich -- was the candidate best positioned to challenge Romney.
"We need another alternative, we need someone who doesn't have the baggage, and the personal issues as well as the inconsistencies in policies that Newt has to be the clear alternative Mitt Romney," he said.
The former Pennsylvania senator also took aim at Romney, promising to deliver a speech on Wednesday on "Romneycare and Obamacare."

He didn't say 53, he said 57 and FYI, there are 57 states and US territories, and territories vote in primary elections which is what the candidate was referring to at that time.
I'm hoping that Ron Paul will join Gary Johnson on the Libertarian ticket and siphon-off 5-10% of the Republican vote, which would ensure that President Obama gets re-elected no matter which Republican wins the nomination!!!

Actually, indirectly, Obama was right in his comment in the last campaign......there are 57 states and territories who send delegates to the conventions.....those territorial delegates have the same voting power as those from the 50 states, even though their residents DON'T get to vote in the general election. So there are 46 state caucuses/primaries to go yet, plus the seven territories with their individual methods of selecting their delegates to the conventions. We are a long way from the GOP convention yet. It will be interesting to watch the delegate count build over the next several months.

7. NO party conventions shall be held to select the presidential candidates. The selection must be done at the ballot box in the primary election.

The Media is hoping that with two such ineligibles on the ballot (as there were in 2008) the Natural Born Citizen issue will be seen as irrelevant and therefore won't weigh against their fuzzy-minded "promise-them-anything-vague-and-meaningless" hopey-changey poster boy.
No one is a Natural Born Citizen without being the child of two American Citizens, therefore neither Romney nor the liar now in Washington qualify for the office. We've already been defrauded once. It won't be so easy to do it a second time.
A certain Georgia court has finally (January 26, 2012) been the first in the nation to hear the facts regarding the impostor's background and have them entered into the public record. GOOGLE IT! This issue will increase in significance as more and more people become aware of FACTS that leave no room for doubt in the minds of mainstream observers, and more and more states consider this EVIDENCE and the meaning of "Natural Born Citizen" is re-visited (or rather, truly VISITED for the first time) by the American electorate. By August it may well be that neither Romney nor the presumed impostor Democrat is able to be more than a footnote to this year's election cycle, in which case, all the MSM spinning and conspiring may make people dizzy, but it won't pop open the door as easily as it did four years earlier.
Clearly they think this issue will remain important only among those they sweep aside as an irrelevant "fringe" where they smugly presume their constant name-calling mockery has forever confined it, BUT THIS WILL NOT BE THE CASE THIS TIME AROUND. The 14th Amendment defines citizenship this way: "All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside." But even this does not get specific enough. As usual, the Constitution provides the framework for the law, but it is the law that fills in the gaps. The Constitution authorizes the Congress to do create clarifying legislation in Section 5 of the 14th Amendment; the Constitution, in Article 1, Section 8, Clause 4, also allows the Congress to create law regarding naturalization, which includes citizenship.
Currently, Title 8 of the U.S. Code fills in the gaps left by the Constitution. Section 1401 defines the following as people who are "citizens of the United States at birth:"
* There is an exception in the law — the person must be "subject to the jurisdiction" of the United States. This would exempt the child of a diplomat, for example, from this provision.

Aeonwing - You are wrong. The Supreme court decided in Wong v. Ark who is and isn't a citizen. They also decided in Minor v Happerstat who is a natural born citizen. And they concluded that a natural born citizen is the child of two citizens. I don't know enough about Romney's father to say wether or not he is affected by this, but as long as his father never renounced his US citizenship or held dual citizenship, Mitt is most likely a naruaral born citizen.

See, there really was a court hearing in Atlanta on 1/26/12, just as John states. The case was OSAH-SECSTATE-CE-1215136-60-MALIHI
Obama defied a court ordered subpoena to appear, and another to provide documents. His lawyer cooperated up until the night before the hearing, when he desperately tried to get the State Atty General to squash the hearing, which Mr Olen declined to do. Obama's lawyer then decided not to show up.
The judge was going to issue a summary judgement for the plaintiffs, but they argued that would reward Obama for not showing up. The judge agreed to allow an abbreviated presentation of the evidence. This is important because it is the first time anyone has been able to enter any evidence whatsoever into the record. The Judge is expected to rule against Obama later this week.

I truly believe that the GOP establishment has not recognized how very angry their base is. They are no longer following the dictates of the old guard. Whatever the outcome of the GOP primary, the next few years are going to be a time for the GOP to regroup and rediscover their base and what they want their message to be. I think these are some of the reasons their better candidates sat this year out.

I really don't get why people are down on Ron Paul. Ron Paul doesn't have any baggage what so ever. He wants to end the Fed which is the true cause of inflation and our national debt and give americans sound money and bring our troops home. Being a Floridian I could say there were some oops voting with absentees; because he started his campaign/commercials early that's all those absentees knew so to get it out of the way they voted him. I say this as someone who's made these calls, seniors are upset that they voted too early while misinformed. Have to remember South Florida is full of retirees. 2) Unemployment rate will stay above 7% until 2015. It will increase to 8.9% at end of this year and hit 9.2% at the end of 2013.
3) Deficit will be $1.1 trillion in 2012, the fourth consecutive year above $1 trillion.....Come on folks OBAMA NEEDS TO GO!

The MSM is pushing Romney because he has the same baggage that the phony P has: he is not a Natural Born Citizen, which requires that BOTH parents be American citizens (birthplace has nothing to do with it). So he's their blast deflection shield. To all of you who have been speculating as to why Dubya has been silent on the current election cycle, consider this--Do you think maybe, after the man had to suffer the slings and arrows of the most openly hostile media in the history of free press, virtually every single day for eight straight years, he would just like to kick back at his ranch and relax now that he's not in the national spotlight anymore? The man could've solved the world's energy problems, found a cure for cancer and left office with a trillion dollar surplus, and you'd STILL hate him! If FDR had to put up with such an openly hostile media dissecting every little nuance of every syllable he uttered, half this country would be speaking German right now, and the other half Japanese. I think he was a RINO with all his spending and government expansion, but the country we live in today is Obama's not Bush's, and BHO needs to own up to his own failures, not keep blaming his predecessor.
The Republicans couldn't stop the Democrats from doing whatever they wanted for the first two years of Obama's presidency--they were in the minority in BOTH houses--and yet, the Democrats still had to resort to midnight back-door politics and political mumbo-jumbo in order to get ObamaCare passed.
Hawaii, I hear what you're saying about finding 'any' job to put food on the table, pay bills, and keep moving forward, that is all well and good, for an ADULT, NOT a CHILD. What Gingrich is implying then, is that we should strike down child labor laws and become like a 3rd world country, putting children to work. What next, factory jobs, like in China that pay them pennies on the dollar? And which underpriviledged children, Hawaii? Just Inner-city kids? What about the rural poor? How about the millions who are at poverty level right now? Should they get 2nd and third paying jobs? Should America just turn it's back on them and say 'they made their bed, now they have to sleep in it?' Is THAT the America you want? Is THAT what it is like to be Republican? I DARE the GOP to tell that to the miilions at poverty level living in the RED states, who shoot themselves in the foot in spite of themselves, to prop up these cowards as 'saviors' of their political party. If they only realized what really would happen if THEIR social services were cut because the GOP continuously says 'Government has gotten too big!' Bush II gutted the middle class with hundreds of thousands of job losses his last term in office, and yet 'people' yell at president Obama that he isn't moving fast enough in 3 years? That kind of mindset is akin to having cooked with a reg. oven for several years, and then you get a brand new microwave oven, stand in front of it, and yell 'cook faster!' You can NEVER expect the economy to change THAT drastically in 3 years, what it took 8 years to tear down, but it IS moving back up, however slow it is. President Obama has TRIED to pass jobs bills, only to be thwarted by the GOP, by their pushing their own agendas and adding bills to his bills, which the Senate will never pass. The GOP are always saying they put jobs bills through the Senate just for it to sit there. You ever look at their bills? They involve the relaxing of regulations to corporations that put toxic materials in the air and water. They are tax reforms for corporations. All this they consider 'jobs bills' because they believe it will 'help' create jobs by giving companies more space to do what they want, thereby loosening the company's belt to hire. The Keystone Pipeline, for instance. The GOP keep yelling that President Obama killed it, when that is patently false. Obama said he would sign the bill for passage once ALL the enviromental, economical, and political evaluations are done. And yet the GOP tried to ramrod it through attached to another job bill/unemployment extension Obama wanted passed, just to look good to their constituents. Trickle-down economics didn't work for Reagan, Bush I or Bush II, but they keep going back to the trough because they have nothing else. As I said in an earlier post - What and where do the GOP want to take America back to? They obviously don't know, but they just don't want prosperity for ALL Americans, just the elite.

The reason why so few people take Ron Paul seriously is his downright scary stance on national defense. I'll admit, he has some interesting things to say regarding the IRS and the Federal Reserve Bank, but his isolationist stance on foreign policy would lead us to being irrelevant as a world power, and would most likely lead to us being attacked by countries or organizations hostile to the American ideals, if not invaded. Remember what Teddy Roosevelt said about "Walk softly, but carry a big stick"? Well, a nuclear aircraft carrier or a stealth bomber is a VERY big stick. We can't allow our country to take a back seat to anyone. We are the only ones the world can count on to play by the rules. If the biggest kid on the block just sits back and allows the bullies to dominate the weaker kids, what does that say about our character as a nation?
Fantomdog, I don't know what kind of bizarro world you live in, or what side of the looking glass you came from, but each and every thing you accuse the GOP of doing was actually perpetuated by the Democrats. Newt's comments about allowing children to learn some work skills while going to school (and possibly earn a little money while doing so) was about an OPPORTUNITY not a MANDATE. No one would be forced to participate, and it wouldn't be any different than shop class, or Home Economics or auto shop. It's a chance for them to learn how the real world works and how to apply what you have learned to becoming a self-reliant adult, rather than how to sponge off the government. How can you, or anyone else, possibly see racist motives and a return to 19th century sweatshops in that?
As for the cuts in social programs, we had generations of citizens in this country who, if they couldn't afford something, they did without. They learned from the school of hard knocks that you can't always get everything you want. These were the men and women who built the Empire State Building in just three years. Made the brand "Made in the U.S.A." the most desired brand in the world. Fought two World Wars. Going back further, built the trans-continental railroad. These hard-working, frugal, make-do-with-what-you-have-and-don't-complain-about-what-you-don't are who we look back on today as the best of what exemplifies the American spirit. A mother tries to give her children evrything they want, a father makes them earn it. I know 17-year old kids still in high school who have as many as 4 part-time jobs. Why should it be humiliating for a mother or father to do the same for their family as these teenagers do to earn some cash for their cel phone bill?
Trickle-down economics not only worked, it led to the biggest economic boom this country has seen since the end of WWII. Bill Clinton was still benefitting from the idea that letting Americans keep more of their money means they're more likely to spend it or invest it when he took office 12 years later! Do you think the dot.com boom of the 90s could possibly have happened in today's economic climate? No freakin' way! Too many taxes, too many regulations, too many governmental palms to grease. As to why we're hemoraging jobs overseas, I've got two words for ya--NAFTA and unions. That boondoggle program kicked open the doors for corporations to take their businesses where the labor pool was cheaper, because why would Phil Knight want to pay an American union worker $40/hr to stich up some Nikes when he can have them made in Vietnam and shipped halfway around the world for less than a third of that? And he supports Democrats!
You liberals have absolutely no concept of self-reliance or free-market economics. You can't legislate morality and fairness. This country has struggled to where it is today IN SPITE OF YOU, NOT BECAUSE OF YOU! Obama can't even get full Democratic support for his policies. The Republicans don't have to obstruct anything! It was the Dems in Congress who first shut out the GOP completely, then used back-door politics just to get Obamacare passed. This a program where they try and set up kids, who are seniors, up with a job in the area they are interest in going into such as accounting, welding, etc. Children below the age 17 need to be studying not working, they can be doing some volunteer work but home work is more important. The Republicans and the Tea Party idiots are holding Congress hostage by not allowing bills to be passed to help the middle class, they would rather sit on their asses and let this country go right down the tube. The Republicans will not win the Presidential Election due to the fact there is not a good candidate among them bunch of them, and if the Republicans and the Tea Party idiots continue the way they are you will see a lot of them getting kicked out of Congress in the next election.
I think the real question should be...did Rommnet actually win this or did he buy it ? With out spending at 5 to 1 on adds...seems to me more like he poaid heaveyly for a win...I have to wonder if the spending were the same for all in elections..would we get the same results..or would we get better suited individuals for the offices they run for ?
I worked a few hours each week for less than minimum wage selling newspaper subscriptions when I was about 12 or 13. It allowed me to make some money and learn a work ethic. I think this experience significantly contributed to my success later in life, and I would like other kids to have similar opportunities.
I don't want to see kids working factories or coal mines, but I do think it's good to allow kids to do some work at an early age - and the minimum wage is too high to make this worthwhile for companies. I think Newt has a valid point that, in some areas, kids are growing up around generations of adults that haven't worked in years (ever?) and they do not have any good role models in their immediate community to teach them how to be productive adults. Allowing kids to do some tasks and get some monetary reward would start to build that work ethic in the kids. I would like to see a compromise solution so we can help others build the work ethic and skills needed so they can enjoy the success I've enjoyed in life.

I'm old enough to remember how proud I was of Newt his first two years. I'm also remember the last two years was so embarrassing for all Republicans. Ethics violation, Cheating on his wife and steeping down as speaker. Conservative & Christian. I think an ego is what we are dealing with and that is why he is so mean and vicious toward Romney. Rush said four years ago, do you know what the difference between a legislator and a governor is. The US usually picks a Governor because they are leaders and Obama hasn't ran a cool-lade stand. Now many of you want to pick a Legislator again. After Obama & McCain you would think we would learn why our country is in the pits and not getting out. Just remember what was Newt before the Adultery but that's OK because he is Catholic now. At his age he changed. I don't buy it and don't see it.
Only Romney and Ron Paul are on all the 50 states ballots. Gingrich and Santorum are not, therefore, the chances for Newt and Santorum have been lowered considerably.

Even if the candidates had the same amount of money, they would still have the opportunity to spend it how they see fit. It isn't as if Gingrich didn't have more money that he could have spent - he made a decision to spend less in FL so that he would have more later. And, the fact that Romney had a strategy in place that was designed to secure a victory should not be held against him - it is actually a good thing to have someone that has good organizational and leadership skills running for President.
I believe that placing secret service agents for Romney is a travesty upon us, the taxpaying citizens!!! He is supposedly incredibly wealthy, and he can hire his own bodyguards!!! He is not the President yet (and he will not be if the majority of Americans come to their senses, unless you love our country being trillions in debt, (which by the way will bring Austerity measures eventually), you love having to go thru radiation scanners, and/or being sexually molested every time you fly, not to mention your items being confiscated, all our police currently being Federalized, and many more of our liberties being taken away every day!!!

I teach there and let me tell you almost all of the parents of my students work and work more than one job. What you should be concerned about is that they are working so hard they and still can't meet the needs of their children and be at home at all. And don't go giving me that "if you can't take care of the kids, don't have them" because a whole lot of these folks could afford the children they had until the markets crashed, and the housing bubble burst and there weren't any more jobs. It never ceases to amaze me the same people who say "don't have kids you can't take care of" are USUALLY the same folks who are against abortions... Stop believing the BS about welfare queens.. that is certainly not all of the inner-city much less most of it.... and BTW inner-city has been a code word for "black" and "brown" for years and don't pretend to be so naive you didn't know that!

If you're assuming that there is nothing mainstream or "grass roots" in the tea party; I think an error in judgement is being made. And on the other side of the fence, and I do think some would hate this suggestion, but I think the same applies to Occupy Wallstreet as well.
There's a growing disgust, anymosity, and certain ill feelings which is growing in this country. About as much as there's a certain fatigue if you will, growing among many who keep getting blasted with all the negative ads of the super-pacs, etc.... There might be a difference in exactly what the respective people (on the right or the left in these respective movements) are disgusted with; but the sentiment itself seems very similar; and vary much a part (or a growing part) of the populace at large....
For myself, politicians or bankers, the government or Wallstreet; in the end they are, and practically have been in bed with each other for decades, or even more then a century.... So I really don't see issue with pointing a finger at the both of em :p Just take the whole issue surrounding SOPA for instance; until some uproar came about, it got like unanymous support in the Congressional committee (and some commented that Congress can't even agree unanymously on the lunch menu). Congress dess was doing this BUT there was most definitely special interests they were supporting, who lobbied them in the first place. And herein is where players like the recording industry enter in.... On the other hand, who's paying those large campaign contributions? In the end, a lot of people are practically in bed together, on both sides of this one, so meh wrt the nit picking of "but they're blaming this group and not that".... Both of em, are players in all of this.... But just looking at the sentiments themselves; and setting aside who it's directed towards, there is some common theme...

Republicans donate WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY more money to charity than Democrats do. There's been numerous studies to back this fact up. What's even more showing is that Republicans donate more of their TIME to charity than Democrats. So when i see someone say that helping people is a liberal idea and therefor conservatives don't do that i have to laugh.
Unfortunately this all really comes from a fundamental difference of HOW TO HELP PEOPLE. Democrats believe it's the governments duty to have all these programs. Republicans believe people should be helping people, and that the government should stay out of it.
Mitt Romney won because he's the more moderate of the Republicans running. That said he is still basically identical to Newt and Santorum. He has the best chance of winning in the national election. This national election really is going to determine if we end up being a socialist style nation or not. If you think it's the governments job to help people pay for their healthcare, food, housing, childcare, and pay them if they lost their job. Then vote for Obama. If you think it's YOUR responsibility to pay for those things yourself, and that if people are have trouble doing that then PEOPLE should be the ones to help. Then vote for the Republican.

Conservatives don't believe that helping people is wrong, we believe that the government forcing us to help is wrong. Conservatives, by a staggering margin, donate FAR more to private charities and local help organizations than liberals do, and we do it because it's the right thing to do, not because the government makes us. Even James Madison, the author of the Bill of Rights once said, and I'm paraphrasing here, "I cannot endeavor to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which allows the government to expend, as objects of charity, the tax money of our citizens". Giving a person money taken from the person who earned it with no strings attached robs them of their will. Keeping people on the unemployment rolls for 99 weeks dulls down not only their job skills, but their job seeking skills and their inter-personal skills.

This figure is always distorted by donations to churches which may or may not be used for charitable purposes. I work at a soup kitchen weekly and do volunteer litter pickup practically every day. Oddly I live in an ultra conservative city but the people I work with are almost exclusively liberal.
From my own personal observation I see a lot of conservative types who make donations and stand back and let others do the grunt work. They get the tax break. But of course those like your absurd remarks are generalities. They don't apply to all.

Well, allow me to say I work in a hospital and the majority of the hospital want Obama out of office as do most of our patients. So, if Romney wins that's where the vote will go. If Newt wins then YES Obama will be the winner come November.
Wait till the hospital administrators discover that without ObamaCare, pre-existing conditions won't be paid for any more. Patients will have to leave, go home, and die, doctors won't get paid, the administrator won't get his bonus--oh. you'll have a couple of rich people up on the fifth floor splitting it between the two of them, but the regular people won't have any way to pay for their illnesses and injuries. And guess what will happen when the Republicans get through gutting Medicare. None of those crocks littering up the hallway, that's for sure (and there has been a Republican movement in Congress to cut veterans' care, isn't that sweet?).
They'll want Obama back, then, I expect.
Phine I find my self agreeing a lot with you lately. But on the HeathCare issue. Several medical groups in the Detroit area are choosing to NOT accept any insurance (they are saying because of Mr. Obama's bill) My Doctors group (he explained this to me last week) got together with a medical law group to try and see a way through this huge costly mess. The Lawyers told them to pay off what they currently have with Insurance payments and stop taking ALL insurance. So they looked at what they charge for a vist and what Medicare pays and set the price of an office visit. The price point came in at $40. So his group of 20 doctors and 40 some staff members will as of the 1st of Jan 2012 work on cash only. If religion didn't play into things; we wouldn't still be having religious battles, court cases over the subject, or have the subject come up again and again. Unless you have heard something I haven't the cons want to "fix" the problems you cite by 1. doing away with most environmental regulations; 2. cancelling the Obama health care plan (but not substituting anything except "private" insurance where they deny coverage and raise rates at will....business as usual for profit$$); 3. lowering taxes (on the rich if they do away with inheritance and capital gains taxes which is part of the plan; Romney would then pay 0-1% tax.....sweet); 4. doing away with many worthless government regulations and departments like consumer affairs, Medicaid, privatize Medicare (more profits.....ooops efficiency out there in that "private" sector) and the education department (don't need that dang burn wirthless and expensiv book lernin); and 5. Drill baby drill everywhere and all the time from the continental shelf to the National parks and then export that oil to China to bring down our trade deficit (no oil for YOU in the US)........anything real positive you see in these plans? Have a great life in the "new" world.

One doesn't have to be swayed by all of all the negative campaigning of the super pacs (who in many cases are actually run by former members of the candidates own campaigns, and not always "that former"), to be sick of it already. Not really anymore so, then one would have to believe every word that comes out of the local gossip, to be tired of hearing a gossip prattle on with the lattest rumor everytime you meet them in the halls. Sometimes, one just doesn't want to hear it, continually.

I would say this: Unless we are willing to amend the constitution to provide for campaign reform, including finance (and I am), then the best "reform" would be that every dime given to any candidate or any group has to be fully accounted for by name, address, and employer of each contributor. This way, if people still want someone after learning that they are pretty much fully funded by the Koch Bros, George Soros, the National Right-to-Work Committee, the AFL-CIO or whoever, at least they can reasonably know what they'll probably be getting.
Full disclosure is needed. How would we ever know if any foreign owned entities are contributing, otherwise?

I'm a democrat and plan to vote for Obama but in listening to these debates, one thing comes through loud and clear... there is no way in the world I could vote for Romney or Gingrich. Newt might say he is a changed man but take it from me, if this man becomes the most powerful man in the world, the old Newt will be back and his "charm" will cause this country to be the most hated country in the world. When I listen to Santorum, he makes sense and he seems very knowledgeable on most of the issues. He seems like a "serious" candidate with conviction who would take the job seriously. But Santorum's staunch and ultra-conservative views are just too much for me.
I also like Ron Paul but some of his ideas just scare the heck out of me and I don't think he would get anything accomplished with a Republican and Democratic congress. Both parties would actively try to make Ron Paul a one-term President! And I do believe that business practices need to be kept in check in order to "protect" the American people. We need government for some things and I think Ron Paul would eliminate most government if he had his way. I don't trust business to police itself at the expense of profit.
