Not 'Desperate' for cash: Obama lists his big fundraisers

President Obama's campaign released a report naming big money bundlers—including Hollywood celebrities and Silicon Valley CEOs--who have raised $71 million for his reelection and the Democratic National Committee. The Obama campaign collected $140 million in 2011 and had $82 million cash on hand at year's end. National Investigative Correspondent Michael Isikoff reports.

By Michael Isikoff, NBC News
with reporting by NBC's Azriel Relph and Lisa Riordan Seville

The Obama campaign on Tuesday released an updated list of 445 major "bundlers" of campaign contributions, including a "Desperate Housewives" star, a Silicon Valley mogul, and a former Energy Department advisor who pushed a government loan for the now bankrupt Solyndra solar company.

The report provides new evidence of just how important big money bundlers are in presidential campaigns. In all, the 445 bundlers raised $74 million to $100 million for the Obama re-election campaign, the campaign reported, according to totals calculated by NBC from the rough ranges the campaign reported for each person's collections. Just 61 elite fundraisers among that group brought in at least $30 million, or at least $500,000 apiece.

The Center for Responsive Politics, a nonpartisan group, calcuated that the bundlers raised $35 of every $100 raised by the Obama campaign groups since April, when he launched his re-election campaign.

Among the newly named bundlers who have raised at least $500,000 or more for the Obama re-election are Marc Benioff, a Silicon Valley computer tycoon who founded Salesforce.com and hosted a fundraiser for the president at his home last spring; Jack Rosen, a prominent New York real estate developer who is chairman of the American Jewish Congress; and Kawana Brown, the chief operating officer of Magic Johnson Enterprises.

Altogether there are 88 newly disclosed bundlers for the president's campaign. Those raising $200,000 to $500,000 include Eva Longoria, the Desperate Housewives actress; Stewart Bainum, chairman of Manor Care and Choice Hotels International; Joel Cantor, owner of Cantor Partners real estate firm; and Mai Lassiter, wife of film producer James Lassiter.

The Obama list of $500,000 bundlers includes some notable names that have previously been disclosed, such as Hollywood moguls Jeffrey Katzenberg (who has also donated $2 million to an Obama superpac), film producer Harvey Weinstein, and UBS Americas chairman Robert Wolf.

One of the president’s top bundlers, former New Jersey governor Jon Corzine, recently caused embarrassment for the campaign when his investment  firm, MF Global, filed for bankruptcy, triggering an FBI investigation into whether its clients’ money had been mishandled. The Obama campaign and the Democratic National Committee last month returned over $70,000 of funds donated by Corzine  and his wife.

Another name previously disclosed is a former Energy Dept. adviser, Steve Spinner, of Menlo Park, Calif., who pushed the controversial funding of the Solyndra energy company. Emails uncovered by a Congressional committee last fall showed that Spinner, while on an Energey Department board, repeatedly pushed officials to finalize a loan for Solyndra before Vice President Joe Biden visited the company in September 2009. "What is he waiting for?" Spinner wrote to a DOE official. I have the OVP [Office of the Vice President] and WH [White House] breathing down my neck on this."

Other names on the list include:

David Cohen, the executive vice president of Comcast, the cable firm that owns NBC and is co-owner of msnbc.com

Anna Wintour, editor in chief of Vogue

Laura Ricketts, co-owner of the Chicago Cubs

Jon Corzine, former governor of New Jersey and former chairman of bankrupt MF Global Holdings

Thomas Carnahan, founder of wind farm company Wind Capital Group

Andrew Tobias, Miami, financial writer

Crystal Nix-Hines, lawyer and Hollywood writer

Mark Gallogly, private equity investor and member of the President's Economic Recovery Advisory Board

The full list is here.

In an official filing with the FEC, the campaign's fundraising arm, Obama for America, reported having $82 million cash on hand at year end. It raised $40 million in the last quarter. A related campaign arm, Obama Victory Fund, reported raising $24 million in the last quarter, finishing the year with $1 million on hand. The Obama Victory Fund, controlled by the campaign, jointly contributes to the Obama campaign and the Democratic National Committee.

Overall, 61 Obama fundraisers are now in the highest bundler category, "$500,000 plus," 20 more than were on the previous list of 41 listed last fall.

The Obama campaign is so far the only presidential campaign to voluntarily disclose its bundlers, fundraisers who are key to a presidential campaign’s success because they collect  checks en masse from multiple donors,  giving them far more clout than individual contributors who are still limited to giving $2,500 a piece.  Although John McCain and Obama both disclosed their bundlers in 2008.

Update: Mitt Romney released a short list of bundlers on Tuesday, but only the names required by law to be disclosed, because they are lobbyists. Those names are here.

President Obama, as a United States senator, proposed legislation in 2007 that would have required disclosure of supporters who raised $50,000 or more. That legislation was not enacted, but Obama voluntarily released names during his campaign and during his term in office.

Politics is the gentle art of getting votes from the poor and campaign funds from the rich, by promising to protect each from the other..

Politics: [Poly "many" + tics "Blood sucking parasites"]

Instead of giving a politician the keys to the city, it might be better to change the locks.

This nothing yet,...wait until Oprah Winfrey joins the party. She has already indicated a willingness to support and the campaign need only ask.

The 2010 election was just the pulling back of the political rubber band as far as possible, so we can eject as many TeaPubs as far from public office as humanly possible. Give this President what he needs to be successful, that is 70 seats in the Seante and control of the House.

ir12 .. If the republicans tomorrow said tax the rich the democrats would suddenly oppose it. Just like health insurance reform, the democrats had an opportunity to pass exactly what they wanted but they stalled and finally passed a plan that gave the insurance companies what they wanted. Newt wasn't the only one who got huge consulting kickbacks, both party members do it after leaving Washington. Neither party has our best interest at heart. Sadly, we lack a viable 3rd party that's for the people.

Wow ! That e-mail from the Department of Energy adviser, Steve Spinner pretty much PROVES the White House was directly involved for pushing the "loan" to Solyndra !! Imagine that !!!

Why would the Obama administration push for a "loan" for a company that had received the kiss-of-death "GOING CONCERN" letter from their independent CPA'S ? Could it be the campaign fund kickbacks that came Obama's way ??

Obama is bought and paid for. His concern for middle-class America is only a smokescreen. Corzine's contribution is also fascinating, even if it has now been returned.

Every candidate needs money to run their ad on T.V, which cost a lot of money. If you want to take money out of politics, then have right wing media tell American voters the true instead of spinning and confuse word--like socialist, class warfare....

Look at Mitt Romney he has 250 million plus wealth and only pay 13.9% in tax and swiss bank account. In fact, most of Mitt money raising is from Wall Street, Big Banks, oil companies, etc. Mitt spend about 16 Million just in Florida alone. So, he raise a lot of money.

Apparently some on here haven't heard the release from his administration stating that unemployment may rise to 8.9%.

You also have one of the eight ecomomists (is not from our country either) who acurately predicted the collapse in 2008) predict that if spending and taxes were nut cut more this year and/or if we pick a fight with Iran the dow will drop to 8,000.

Add to that Dr Schiller saying that housing is going to continue to drop in value. That is real bad. Don't you read history, until housing starts to recover - you've got nothing!

Meanwhile you got two jackels fighting over a carcass before the game is brought down and killed.

Only in America will someone raise and spend almost a quarter of a billion dollars to get elected to a job that pays $400,000/year. Based on how much has been raised and spent so far, I would estimate that campaigns in the presidential election race will result in spending of $500 million dollars combined. I expect that Obama and Romney (assuming he is the Republican nominee) will each end up spending $200 million in their quests to get elected/reelected. The amount of money in politics today has reached absurd levels. The amount spent on federal level election campaigns for the 2012 elections, the 435 congressional races, 33 senatorial races, and the presidential election, will be in the billions of dollars. Imagine how many people could be housed and fed with that amount of money.

I've accepted as a reality that the Presidency, Senate seats, and seats in the House, are bought. I seriously doubt that anything will change as long as there are pro-business people on the SCOTUS. Businesses can not be regulated and laws upheld when politicians accept money from the very people they will pass legislation favoring.

    Sector leads:

    Obama---entertainment, real estate development, education.

    Romney--Associated Outside Groups (5):

    Super PACs:
Citizens for a Working America PAC
    Republican Truth Squad
    Restore Our Future
    Other committees:
Citizens for a Working America PAC, Florida Watch Action

and the financial sector has jumped to Romney. They don't like to be regulated, so they want to buy one of their own.

As far as I can tell, both are biased but Fox has been caught in MORE lies. Furthermore, countless studies have PROVEN that Fox is the MOST inaccurate "news" network out of all of them.

But don't worry, Fox still gives us great information. Like... how else would we know that the Muppets are really a liberal, brain-washing, indoctrination program aimed at your children? Thank you, Fox News, for your tin-foil hat conspiracy theories. Maybe you can convince everyone that the Muppets should be banned from the Moon, when you all move there with Newt.

Oh, and Fox also taught us that Republicans and Democrats sitting next to each other at the State of the Union Address is the SAME as date rape... yes, DATE RAPE, Fox actually said that. Which makes sense, because if you have ever talked to a woman who experienced this horrific act, she would explain to you that it was like sitting next to someone of opposing political views. True reporting, thanks to Fox News. It just doesn't get any better than that.

    @Against Union Thievery

"It appears that many of the surnames of the donors are Jewish. Do they realize that the president doesn't like the Jewish people. What is wrong with them? Don't they watch the news?"

Actually, I imagine that the reason they ARE contributing is because they ARE watching the (real) news and NOT the republiCLOWN propaganda machine, Faux "News". You probably don't know this, Against, since you don't watch the (real) news, but it has been reported (by REAL news agencies) that an independent study concluded that viewers of Faux "News" are less informed than people who watch NO news at all.

With regard to your implication that President Obama "doesn't like the Jewish people", could you please cite the basis for your statement (other than the foaming-at-the-mouth likes of Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, etc.)? If I recall correctly, President Obama took the lead in opposing Palestine's request for statehood in front of the U.N. Furthermore, the POTUS has REPEATEDLY supported our ally, Israel, and that country's right to defend itself against her enemies (chief among them, Palestine and Iran).

Now, I am not suggesting that you quit watching Faux "News", after all, it is extremely ENTERTAINING and it is consistently funnier than most late night talk shows. I would, however, recommend that you, at least occasionally, check out a LEGITIMATE news source that is TRULY "fair and balanced" in its reporting and adheres to ETHICAL journalistic standards and practices, which are virtually non-existent at Faux "News".

    Olebud-

If I recall correctly, President Obama took the lead in opposing Palestine's request for statehood in front of the U.N.

You better recall your recollection. From that point on, your comment is irrelevant.

The autumn of 2011 is the deadline for a peace treaty agreement and the establishment of a Palestinian state, according to what President Obama,Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Abbas agreed in September 2010, when they gave themselves one year to negotiate. In September, it will also be a year since Obama from the UN rostrum stated that his goal was that next year's General Assembly could welcome a new state.

    Another one-

So while the core issues of the conflict must be negotiated, the basis of those negotiations is clear: a viable Palestine, a secure Israel. The United States believes that negotiations should result in two states, with permanent Palestinian borders with Israel, Jordan, and Egypt, and permanent Israeli borders with Palestine. We believe the borders of Israel and Palestine should be based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps, so that secure and recognized borders are established for both states. The Palestinian people must have the right to govern themselves, and reach their full potential, in a sovereign and contiguous state.

As for security, every state has the right to self-defense, and Israel must be able to defend itself -- by itself -- against any threat. Provisions must also be robust enough to prevent a resurgence of terrorism, to stop the infiltration of weapons, and to provide effective border security. The full and phased withdrawal of Israeli military forces should be coordinated with the assumption of Palestinian security responsibility in a sovereign, non-militarized state. And the duration of this transition period must be agreed, and the effectiveness of security arrangements must be demonstrated [WhiteHouse.gov, 5/19/11]

So, he supported Palestinian statehood before he opposed it? I didn't get either of those from Fox.

Here you go, Billy-boy! LOL. All you have to do is use "the google" and you could find NUMEROUS sources for the independent poll to which I referred. Alas, you ARE a typical republiCON -- you want to be pampered, catered to, and waited on hand and foot. ohhnho "According to the Sunlight Foundation, Rupert Murdochs News Corporations three largest recipients of political contributions from 1989 to 2010 are President Obama, $368,669, Hillary Clinton, $298,525, and John Kerry, $157,901. In fact, democrats outdid republicans overall 51% to 49%."

Not all that surprising. A few years ago, OpenSecrets posted the 100 largest contributors to Democrats and Republicans over the previous 20 years, and while businesses contributed somewhat similar amounts to both Republicans and Democrats, there was a HUGE disparity in favor of Democrats from unions and trial lawyers.

In fact, that huge disparity from unions and trial lawyers for Democrats resulted in the Democrats getting almost 80% of all contributions from these 'big donors', while the Republicans got just over 20% overall.

That was the REAL reason that Obama was so upset with the Supreme Court that allowed corporations to contribute unlimited funds like the unions did - he liked the huge contribution advantage that the Democrats got.

The unions also got laws passed so that any union member that 'opted out' of the portion of their dues used for political contributions could be expelled from the union - which allowed the union bosses to use member funds for Democrats without regard for the wishes of the members.

      The Price Tag Of Politics

As Bob Schieffer explains, Politicians generally listen to the ones who gave them the money to get where they are today and in the end, once they reach Washington their positions are set in stone, thanks to lobbyists and special interest groups.

      ROY WILSON-336103,

I would post here how much President Obama got from the "Insurance Industry", "Medical Device Industry", "Pharmaceuticals Industry" for President Obama's Passage of his Health Care Reform (the Taxpayer money they got is listed in the Section of "Source of New Revenues"), and who his Biggest Fund Raiser Really is as his Buddy, "Mr.Corporate America"; but, then the Newsvine NAZIs that do not others to learn the researched Facts will collapse the post.

Bill1488 "Obama has done nothing for this country and has only contributed to the divide between Rep and Dem instead of bridging the gap as a good president would do."

While most people would agree that Ronald Reagan got a lot accomplished while President, many do not realize that Reagan had to work with a Democratic Congress (House AND Senate) for all of his 8 years in office.

A true leader finds a way to get things done.

A weak leader, like Obama, refuses to compromise and finds someone to blame for their failures.

While Obama keeps saying 'They won't compromise', in reality it's Obama that refuses to even address the biggest problem with out Debt - Out of control 'entitlements'. Every attempt to get Obama to address that issue ends with partisan demonizing of the Republicans.

How many of you actually know what the Megaupload is all about. Please stop getting wrapped around the axle with baloney, look at the BIG Picture.

This is why I kept saying eliminate the Rich Elitist Electoral College (and do not even attempt that lame excuse of representing the smaller States).

THIS IS ALL ABOUT PRESIDENT OBAMA'S RELECTION. You honestly think that it is a coincidence that this is happening now.

Who does the US Department of Justice Work For. As it is the President's Job to Enforce the US Laws.

This is all about President Obama getting the Rich Elitist Electoral College Votes of California (55) via Hollywood (look at the article and list, http://www.barackobama.com/pages/volunteer-fundraisers-Q4), all he needs after that is a State like New York (29) or Florida (29) and you may as well as say he is US President again. You can piss up a rope or into the wind with your one vote for all he cares.

      http://www.270towin.com/

Your one Vote means NOTHING. As it is the Rich Elitist Electoral College that determines the President and Vice President of the United States of America.

Cause + Effects = Results. Use this and you can figure things out yourselves. Or after the fact, backwards as, Results = Effects + Cause if you want to find out who, what, where, when, why (motives), how many, how much, etc.. Just do not blame me if you find out things that you did not want to know. And by all means do use discretion and do not blurt things out as some people will hate you for that and might take extreme measures against you.

Saw this all coming a long time ago,

After President Obama signed his Patriot Acts (Plural) that also extended President Bush's Patriot Act (singular), and included those provisions of the defeated as Unconstitutional Senate S.1959 and House of Representatives H.R.1955 aka the George Orwell, 1984, Thought Crimes Laws.

President Obama's January 21, 2009 Patriot Acts legalized the Monitoring and Censorship of All US Communications as previously Illegal under President Bush's Patriot Act.

Under threat of prosecution, most International Internet Websites in February 2009 Created Censored US Only Internet Websites, and youtube.com stopped their post anything and required Registration. Those International Internet Websites that did not create Censored US Only Internet Websites are blocked from the US as http://404, http://403, "Blocked in your Region", "Content not viewable", etc.. This is why even BBC One, Two, etc. are not the same content as BBC America, same with Arabic Al Jazeera versus English, many other examples.

The President Obama Patriot Acts also included the "Indefinite Detentions", "Material Support to Terrorist Organizations" (humanitarian aid to Countries with Terrorists, and Legal assistance to declared Terrorist (loss of "Due Process")as currently being fought in the Courts, the verbal or written thought is the crime also as "Anyone stating a radical change to (US) Government is a Homegrown Domestic Terrorist", the required cooperation of Internet Service Providers in providing without Warrant the Physical Location(s) of their Customers, etc..

In most cases these "Clouds" have greater protections than can be afforded by the average person, I want to see YOU buy the same computer grade as "Blade Servers", high end Real Cisco Routers, and it clearly evident that most only have a basic knowledge of Raid Arrays. You go pay for a Corporate Edition of a Anti Virus, Anti Spyware, Anti Malware, etc., then tell me how right your are NOT.

US Constitution means NOTHING, as it takes a Constitutional Lawyer like President Obama to figure out how to circumvent the US Constitution.

This will just cause more Businesses to leave the US.

As far as payola this can be seen by their being Tax Exempt, and the Hollywood Political Endorsements and Fund Raisers.

Tell President Obama you disapprove and that he works for you:

      http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact

Tell US Congress (both Houses) that you disapprove and they work for you (Or soon will not):

      http://www.contactingthecongress.org/

Those of you that agree with what the US Government is doing contact Dictator Assad at:

      http://www.presidentassad.net/

By the way some of you really need to read the History of the US Law, McCain Feingold Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act, as to who previously violated this US Law, prior to and during the 2008-2009 Elections.

Obama quickly released his tax returns for the years 2007-2010.

Is it "possible" that Romney delayed releasing his tax returns because he did not want the "average" American to see his staggering wealth (obtained by firing workers), deferring income and paying LOW tax rates? More than likely, Romney dragged his feet about releasing his tax information because he wanted to first gain campaign "momentum." He knows that his ill-obtained and plentiful cash crop might damage him at the primary polls.

That is just good business versus the middle class coming together to get higher wages is stealing? Do any of you actually listen to yourselves?

      Dear Pine,

You are a testimonial to the educational level and the reasoning capabilities of the anti-Obama crowd. You might be surprised to know that the majority of College educated folks voted for the President in the last election and will most probably do so again. Now, I know you believe we're all stupid, which is proven by the fact that our unemployment rate is half the national average, our income is many times that of the high school dropouts like yourself and that we have most of the better jobs. But that's o.k. keep on thinking you're so much smarter than the rest of us, and voting for the scoundrels who are selling you their line of garbage. We'll make sure the government will still respect your freedom of speech, and provide you with a safety net for your old age.

If Obama returned all the money that Corzines and his Financial group donated to his campain over the years he would be in trouble.

Annie-716754.....Corzine's personal donation was returned.......The $500,000 he bundled however has NOT been returned.

"Corzine was one of 41 donors who bundled more than $500,000 this year for Obama’s re-election effort, according to documents released by the campaign Oct. 14. So-called bundlers arrange for contributions from other people and funnel the money to campaigns."

            "

Obama’s campaign doesn’t plan to return those bundled donations and will evaluate other contributions from MF Global employees on a case-by-case basis, according to the Democratic official.

Over the past 20 years, Corzine, along with his first and second wives, directly contributed $917,000 to Democratic committees and candidates, according to the Center for Responsive Politics in Washington, which tracks political giving."

The thing is, the left decries the greed of the rich and the corporations, and then sucks up their money and returns favors--but only to their corporations of choice. It's called hypocrisy, DSG.

Goddamn!, He released the names. While I don't like "pay to play" any more than anyone else, I do respect the Presidents forthrightness with the people here. He didn't have to. This crap must be changed, and, I'll bet the President would be the first to agree. Good candidates with holes in their soles don't have a chance against bad candidates who are up to their armpits in money. Until it does, give to the candidate of your choice til it hurts, then really reach in and give some more.

Sandy: On September 10th, 2001..................Rumsfeld called a press conference to announce that the Pentagon could not "account" for the expenditures totaling up to $2.3 TTTrillion. Years after 9/11/2001, Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney still could not get an answer, in open session to questions which had been submitted in writing and asked in a previous open sesssion, as to who had been hired to find the missing $2.3 TTTrillion, what they were being paid to do so, and how much had they located!!!!!!!!!!!!!Still no aswers. Investigate 9/11/2001, with subpoena power this time.

The comptroller said she didn't want to answer in open session for fear that she might name the wrong companies.

The Obama campaign on Tuesday voluntarily released an updated list of 445 major "bundlers" of campaign contributions,

The Obama campaign is so far the only presidential campaign to voluntarily disclose its bundlers,

but Obama voluntarily released names during his campaign and during his term in office.

                And the Rethugs?

so far the Romney and other GOP campaigns have declined to release their lists.

Honest, Genuine Family man, Statesman, President Obama is the REAL DEAL, not the hypocrites (aka Rethuglicans/CONServatives) who mouth platitutdes, but never practice their "God, Family, Country" bullsh!t.

Romney released his tax records and pretty much everything else. He made his money LEGALLy. Paid the legal tax rate and has done nothing wrong. Here we are 4 years later and Obama hasnt even released his education records... how did a poor kid get all that money to go to Ivy league schools??? Especially when he admitted to not being a great student and a coke head to add to that??? By the way, maybe you need to go back to school yourself. You cant spell worth a damn.

By the way Romney donated over 3 million of his own money to charity. I bet that is more than all the Democraps combined.

Fact: according to the IRS ( who doesn't like anybody), 3% of the income taxpayers paid 30% of the income taxes paid. 6% of the income taxpayers paid 80% of the income taxes collected. 50% of the income taxpayers who earned $50,000.00 paid no income tax. 40%of those people got back more than they paid in. Effective tax rate for $50,000.00 a year? - 4%. Romney paid 15% on a whole bunch. He paid more than several million people added together.

I do not think any politician today should be re- elected or elected. Vote all pro's out, and put in some new people. If they do not cut spending, balance the budget, deal with illegals, and impose term limits, replace them till we get the right group working for America.

                    OMG really people?!!

the problem is that it SHOWS solyndra gave him money, and he inturn gave them 500 million of my money!!!

You do realize what caused Solyndra to fail don't you? I see this over and over being posted on various threads, with the implication being Solyndra was some sort of scam perpurtrated by Obama and others.

Solyndra was innovative renewable energy technology with great potential. Various market conditions conspired to change the competitive offerings cost structure that put the Solyndra solution at a no longer less expensive solution cost. This in effect killed the market for the product. The things that changed were:

                    1) The high cost of raw silicon used in making the competing polysilicate solar cells dropped dramatically from a price run up that had been going on for years.

                    2) The Chinese government subsidized poly-silicate solar cell production in China, allowing the market to be flooded with under-priced solar cells. This is not unique to this industry and demonstrates the effect of their being able to capture strategic markets with their huge investments into key markets.

The results of this was that a product that was superior in many ways and very innovative in concept was overnight no longer cost/price competitive and unfortunately this didn't happen until factories were built but before volume production could begin...

The money invested and lost in Solyndra was just a small portion of overall funding to help American companies develop renewable energy solutions. It was not the first time by any means and hopefully not the last time that monies spent on R&D efforts to spur innovation from the government didn't pan out as hoped.

Many times these investments do pan out. Look at all the innovations and technological advancements that have come from the investments in the space program for instance, or the tremendous stimulus and profits for American companies from efforts such as development of the Internet.

This was not the case of someone making up a scheme and taking money and vanishing without a trace. It was hard work by a lot of creative people and a promising technology that got "wiped out" in the competitive global marketplace by another government more willing to take the steps they felt necessary to thwart the product Solyndra was about to mass market.

You could make the argument that government should never be involved with R&D investments and that it should always come from private investments, but in reality there are almost zero private companies that have the budgets to do serious pure R&D and then follow that up with production startup costs for projects of the scale of energy production.

There are plenty of things in politics to rave about... this isn't one of them. Go find a real issue to complain about, I'm getting sick of seeing Solyndra being throw about every day as some sort of Obama/Democratic/liberal conspiracy or something...

Blah blah blah. This was a scam from the get go. Solar energy has NEVER been cost effective. Never. And to give the company money then circumventing the law that the taxpayer does not get their money back FIRST, well its a scam. Call it what you want but it was a SCAM. And one of many I might add... which were all to Obama campaign contributors.

Actually Solyndra, was not head of its technology. Have been working with solar for several years, and you learn real quick that everyone is "ahead" with their technology. They spent money on stupid stuff, not only that people who invested in it, especially people that were around Obama got their money plus some, while leaving the tax payers with the bill. This also happens during Republican Presidentency. The difference is that Obama is naive and got taken in on a larger scale then past presidents. If the president was smart he would have loan power comapnies the $500 million at 0% if they bought from Solyndra or First Solar. That makes the sytem work and the economy and the companies get a boost. As for siliicon raw price dropping that should have had no effect. If they were producing thin film then the cost still would be cheaper then silicon panels and the market for two is somewhat different.

I get it, you don't have to explain it. Answer why the government was involved? Not everybody is stupid on this site. I read the masses, to try understand why in a free society that people vote a party and not who would be better for society. Any paid politician is bad for this country, but only those with money can run because the mass of voters only know how to watch and not read!

                    Tired-one-

You are absolutely correct. Except, you forgot to mention that this was all known before the 'loan' of $535million US taxpayer's dollars were wasted. The auditors knew it, the market players knew it and all involved know it. That is why it was shelved by the Bush Adm. Why would you not mention that?? Why do you think it took less than a year for the company to fail after the $535million loan was given??

sandy - You do realize that EVERYONE who worked at Solyndra lost their jobs right?

Amazing how firing incompetent, useless people allows a company to stay in business producing goods and employing people who actually contribute, isn't it?

You must be a union member; a job is not a right.
