MANCHESTER, N.H. -- Republican presidential hopefuls will have a renewed opportunity to draw contrasts with each other in their second of two debates in a 12-hour span on Sunday morning.
A Saturday night debate in Manchester yielded few defining moments, and did little to add new scrutiny that had been expected of Mitt Romney, the frontrunner in the Granite State's primary on Tuesday.
The rest of the GOP field will have their second -- and last -- chance to draw those contrasts with Romney at the NBC News-Facebook debate on Sunday morning in Concord, N.H. The debate will be broadcast on "Meet the Press" at 9 a.m. ET, and viewers can share their thoughts here in the last few hours before the debate begins.
It all leaves the Sunday morning debate as the final opportunity, with just two days until the New Hampshire primary, for candidates who had been positioning themselves as the prime alternative to Romney to make that case to voters.
Most notably, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who had promised to take a new, aggressive tack against Romney and had barnstormed New Hampshire this week voicing that type of rhetoric, largely pulled his punches on the former Massachusetts governor.
That came in defiance of expectations Gingrich's campaign had built going into the debate, having circulated a research memo on Romney's tax record.
Gingrich and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum -- who battled Romney to a virtual draw in last week's Iowa caucuses -- offered relatively tepid criticisms of Romney about three quarters of the way through the debate, but had otherwise held off heavy criticism of Romney.
"I do think there's a difference between a bold Reagan conservative model and a more establishment model that is a little more cautious about taking the kind of changes we need," Gingrich said in comparing his jobs plan against the former Massachusetts governor's.
"I don't think Governor Romney's plan is particularly bold, or is particularly focused on where the problems are in this country," Santorum said.

Romney leads in the battle to win Tuesday's election in New Hampshire, the first primary of the 2012 cycle, and the second nominating contest after Iowa's caucuses. He's worked to build the state into a kind of firewall for his campaign, and recent polling reflects his frontrunner status here.
Forty-two percent of likely Republican primary voters intend to vote for Romney, according to an NBC News-Marist poll released Friday evening. Twenty-two percent prefer Texas Rep. Ron Paul, followed by Santorum at 13 percent, Gingrich at 9 percent and former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman at 9 percent.
Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who's elected to skip the New Hampshire primary to focus on the next primary in South Carolina on Jan. 21, polls at one percent in New Hampshire. (In one of the debate's most newsworthy moments, Perry said he would favor sending troops back into Iraq.)
Candidates continue later this month from South Carolina onto Florida, which hosts its primary on Jan. 31.

Where the h.. is New Hampshires and why do we care;? except of course that most major Corporations are registered there for tax reasons. More than any outher state outside of Nevada and in particular Las Vegas, and for what other reasons?? Bank of America , formerly MBNA is registered there?? None of them is qualified to do the job. All of them -except for Ron Paul and Jon Huntsman- are interested in war, in eliminating the progress that so hard has been gained on social issues; taking us back to the dark ages, and are interested in creating a theocratic nation with no rights and support for the disabled and old. Heck! These men want to regulate contraception! Not even in recent history people heard such amount of nonsense.
Nobody talks about the problems: Global climate and Energy problems. Instead they concentrate in talking about women's vaginas and if gays should marry or not. I guess they can solve all problems by talking about such issues.
They bash President Obama at any opportunity, as if they were so smart to have all the answers at hand. Most of them have dismal records in their resume.
Is it really worth the anguish of seeing them talk this trash?

My only comment is why former Governor Buddy Romer being kept out of these debates? His message about getting the money in politics is a legitimate one.... one the other candidates do not want to broach. There is much concern about the candidates and the role of lobby money is playing in their campaigns, and I think Buddy Romer would more than adequately address.

Everyone knows what he's good at, killing jobs and selling for scrap. The US. government will be broken up and sold to China, I suppose. It is all he knows how to do.

He keeps bragging about his CEO experience. I would like to ask him if he has ever had to get approval of 535 shareholders in order to increase prices, introduce new products or services???? THAT is what the CEO of our country has to do. And, it appears that the majority are against increasing revenue right now - all the republicans have signed pledges to Grover Norquist who obviously holds the power in the GOP. They care less about their oath of office and duty to their constituents than Newt Gingrich cared about his marriage vows.

I know he has a plan to give the average worker a raise of 275%, just like the rich have had over the last few decades. There seems to be a Gingrich/Romney theme here on this site too! Same as the rest of the news websites. Ron Paul was never even mentioned in this news article. No real questions to the candidates on the real issues either. What is going on here? Is the media trying to pick the one easier for Obama to beat? Looks like a Democrat conspiracy to me!

Too bad that his party is so far out in right field that they are ignoring the one candidate who could offer the nation a real viable challenger to the incumbent.

Too bad that his party is so far out in right field that they are ignoring the one candidate who could offer the nation a real viable challenger to the incumbent. The American people want a constitutional form of government....not a bought and paid for dictatorship. Most of these politicians are corrupt beyond reproach and will lie to the American people to continue business as usual and continue with the destruction of this country robbing our kids of the American dream.

They say Obama is Liberal, hardly. A liberal " believe the duty of the government to alleviate social ills and to protect civil liberties and individual and human rights." Doesn't sound anything like Obama to me. To be fair, I give him credit for gay rights for the military, but as far as anything important like the economy or foreign affairs he looses my vote. I now choose Ron Paul. I believe he holds a lot of attributes that made Obama electable in 08, but without the baggage. ( I voted for Obama last election.)

Mitt thinks that playing monopoly with real businesses is being like us that were not born with a gold spoon in our mouth. Dr. Paul seems to care about the people knowing what their government is up to. None of the people except again for Ron Paul wants to quit the unsustainable spending the money they get from taxes, borrowing, or the FED’s printing press.

This Sunday debate will be the same old garbage that has been the program in every debate. Ask some real tough questions , make then squirm and above all make the debaters the program not the commentator . These debates have become so phoney it is pitiful. let the audience ask some questions it would be better than the phoney ones the media puts on. It looks so phoney as if the contender give his question to the moderator.
