Romney emerges mostly unruffled by rivals' charges in New Hampshire debate

Updated at 10:55 pm ET

With the New Hampshire primary two days away, six Republican contenders for the presidency met for the first of two back-to-back debates Saturday night, with front-runner Mitt Romney taking a little bit of the rhetorical heat late in the nearly two-hour event. But none of his rivals managed to land any truly damaging blows.

Former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum, who looked for a bounce out of his virtual tie in Iowa, did mention in passing Romney's support for an individual mandate to buy health insurance and Romney's support for the bailout of financial firms in the fall of 2008, but didn't press Romney on these points.

Santorum also tried to attack Romney early in the debate by alluding to his business career at the investment firm Bain Capital. Santorum said, “Business experience doesn’t necessarily match up” with the skills needed to be president. Romney replied that career politicians such as Santorum “don’t understand what happens out in the real economy.”

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich pointed to a recent New York Times stories on Romney’s record at Bain and said in the case of one firm that the investment firm financed and re-structured, 1,700 people were left jobless.

Romney replied that “it always pains you” when companies must be down-sized, but he argued that working in a free-market system sometimes leads to job creation and sometimes falls short. He claimed that a net total of more than 100,000 new jobs had been created by companies that Bain had financed.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry got some attention during the debate by saying "I would send troops back into Iraq" in order to prevent Iran from gaining a dominant influence in that country.  It was the first time during Perry’s presidential race that he has called for U.S. troops to return to Iraq, from which they were withdrawn at the end of last month.

Gingrich got probably the biggest round of applause from the audience in New Hampshire when he denounced “media bias” and “anti-Christian bigotry” after the moderators asked a prolonged series of questions on whether gay couples should be allowed to marry.

Much of the early part of the debate was consumed by Rep. Ron Paul and Santorum trading charges with each other as Paul accused Santorum of repeatedly voting to increase the national debt and Santorum replying that he'd helped end an entitlement program, welfare, and had led the fight for a constitutional amendment to require a balanced budget.

Benefiting from the Santorum-Paul squabble was Romney who could simply stand back and watch.

Romney repeatedly turned his sights on President Obama instead of on his rivals for the GOP nomination. Obama, he said, was trying to create "a European-style welfare state." He said later in the debate that Obama "has put America on the road to decline.... We're increasingly becoming like Europe."

Earlier in the debate, Paul launched into a lengthy wrangle with Gingrich over his not serving in uniform during the Vietnam War.

Gingrich said that he’d been granted a deferment from the draft due to having children, and he said his father had served for 27 years in the Army, including service in Vietnam during the Vietnam War.

Paul, an Air Force veteran, said in response: “When I was drafted, I was married and had two kids -- and I went.”

Paul said men such as Gingrich who had been granted deferments from military service “have no right to send our kids off to war.” When he sees injured and disabled veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan, Paul said, “my heart weeps for them.”

Romney appears to be in a comfortable position, with the latest NBC News/Marist poll in New Hampshire on Friday showing him with a 20 percentage point lead over his nearest rival in New Hampshire, Paul who finished third in the Iowa caucuses.

The poll is one of several in recent days showing a similar lead for Romney.

Also tkaing part in the debate, and sparring briefly with Romney on trade policy, was former U.S. ambassador to China Jon Huntsman, who chose to bypass Iowa and has focused almost all of his time on campaigning in the Granite State. But his investment so far doesn't appear to have paid healthy dividends: the NBC News/ Marist survey showed Huntsman with only 9 percent support in New Hampshire.

Saturday night's debate will be followed up by the NBC News/Facebook debate on Meet the Press Sunday morning.

Four years ago. Sen. John McCain of Arizona scored a big win over Romney in the New Hampshire primary, a victory that helped set the stage for McCain’s triumphs in South Carolina and Florida, which essentially clinched the nomination for him.

Romney stands a chance to secure the Republican nomination if he, like McCain, can win New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Florida. His opponents are hobbled by the division in conservative ranks among supporters of Santorum, Paul, Gingrich, and Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

Gingrich had a disappointing fourth place finish in Iowa, followed by Perry.

I care about the future of this nation, but two year long campaigns are ridiculous. Not to mention too many debates.

I can only take so much of each politician trash talking each other. I could roam the halls of a high school if I wanted to experience it on a daily basis.

If you can't talk about yourself without degrading someone else, you have no right acting self righteous.

Hey Jay, in case you have been in a cave for the last 30 years. Republicans are why your freedoms are shrinking. The only thing the house has accomplished since gaining the majority is obstructionism and extending the reach of the patriot act. That's it! Paul is one of them. If you are okay with losing freedoms then he's your man. Blaming Obama for this is just ludicrous.

Sorry. It cut me off before I could finish.

I'm a registered independent who's voting record is as follows:

1992: Bush

1996: Clinton

2000: Nader

2004: Kerry

2008: Obama

My choices were made based on the opponent. I was not going to vote for Bob Dole. Al Gore or W? I'll take what's behind Door #3: Ralph Nader. W turned out to be a bigger disaster than I could have possibly imagined. I would have voted for a sock puppet if that's who the Democrats put up in that election. McCain? Mmmm, possibly. He chose Palin as a running mate?! Ooookay, then. Nevermind.

Now I am very disenfranchised with Obama. He caves in too much. A lot of his campaign promises have yet to be accomplished. The fact that he signed the NDAA mortifies me. I want an alternative.

Romney and Gingrich have too much baggage and pander like there's no tomorrow. They jump onto any side that will get them a vote or make them a buck.

Perry is like a Hollywood reboot of W's God-awful presidency. Except he seems dumber, if that's possible.

As much as I love Ron Paul (I campaigned for him in 2008), he has a lot of radical ideas that will scare off moderate independent voters and unhappy democrats. I would love for him to get the nod just to bring a lot of his ideas into the limelight and start honest debate on them, but he won't win a general election.

That leaves Huntsman. He is the only guy I'll vote for (next to Ron Paul) who can be appealing to the largest breadth of voters out there. He's the only one who actually has a shot of making Obama a one term president. He's also the only one campaigning who says that too-big-too-fail banks are too-big-to-exist. He wants to break them up. That ALONE should win him the election. Seriously, GOP. Huntsman is your ONLY shot. Please, please, please give me someone I can vote for!!

I forgot Santorum. Have ya ever Googled his name? I don't want that to be the first thing that pops up when my kid is doing a school report on the Executive Branch. That alone is enough for me not to vote for him. That fact that he seems he would like nothing more than to turn many of his religious beliefs into law puts the nail in the coffin.

I'm telling you people, and listen to me good GOP, I am a left leaning Independent. I am willing to vote for Republicans. Every ballot I've ever voted on has been a SPLIT ticket. Every. Single. One. And I am telling you what it will take for me to vote for your candidate. If he appeals to me, he will appeal to others like me. All my left leaning friends feel the same as I do. Angry Wayne - Go to to the census bureau state by state statistical abstract and look at the break down of states with the highest percentage of residents with college degrees, highest per capita income, least energy consumption per capita, etc.

Pull the data into excel, I assume you know what that is, sort it by the rankings, put an R or D next to the states based on how they voted in '08 and then come back and apologize. For fun, go to the American heart association and pull the rankings for the most obese states and put a D or R next to them based on how they voted in 2008, do that right after you put down your deep fried twinkie...

Also look into what Obama said about the bill we are talking about,

I assume you're talking about NDAA. Yeah, I saw he did a signing statement saying HIS administration won't hold U.S. citizens indefinitely without a trial, but that doesn't mean any whack-job that follows him will follow suit. The same went with the Patriot Act. Seriously, did the presidents that signed these pieces of legislation NEVER consider the fact that some day we, the American people, would be stupid enough to vote a lunatic into power who would abuse these laws for his or her own benefit? WTF?! Both these pieces of legislation need to be repealed toot sweet before they someday fall into the wrong hands. Just think if Nixon had this sort of power at his disposal...

Warhammer - Voting against people instead of for people says you pay more attention to negative campaigning than the message of the candidate, doesn't it?

Leadership is about direction, having a plan, and following common sense. Not 'this guy is worse than the other guy'. That is precisely why we hate our elected officials. We didn't like them in the first place, we vote against the other guy because the other guy and his ilk told us how bad their oponent is.

Ever notice how negative campaigns work. Those are people who follow what they are fed, without stopping to think why they are being feds such trumped up alarming messages, without making certain that message isn't trumped up.

I was starting to warm up to Ron Paul, but his absurd attacks on John Huntsman showed his real colors, showing Ron Paul for the racist he really is. He has shown himself to be meaner than Gingrich, which takes some doing. Making fun of Huntsman being able to speak Chinese (kind of required to be ambassador to China) also shows that Ron is a member of the party of stupid, where Republcans put down anyone with a decent education. The fact that it was so unnecessary, given Huntsman's polling, also show lack of judgement of on Ron Paul's part.

      @DB Akron

Voting against people instead of for people says you pay more attention to negative campaigning than the message of the candidate, doesn't it?

Not at all. It's all about candidate's message and the fact that I couldn't find much of anything good in them. I don't watch much TV anyway so I don't see a lot of campaign ads. And they all tell half truths or take stuff out of context. If anyone makes their decision based on capaign ads, they're goofy. What I was getting at is that the people they chose to run against the people I voted for had terrible platforms. I simply couldn't support what they were touting. And in 2004, it was about job performance. I thought W has an idiot (I was actually rooting for McCain to get the nod, y'know, back when he was still rational). And I was able to tolerate W until Iraq. I was against that fiasco from Day One. I wish my MySpace page was still functioning. All I did was blog about how there was no yellow cake and no WMDs well before we ever launched the invasion. I knew his administration was full of BS. And it was a very bitter pill when I was eventually vindicated as I caught lots of flak for being a anti-American terrorist hugger.

And the fact now that I'm telling you Jon Huntsman has a GREAT platform with good ideas and ambitious policies should tell you it's not about negative ads. I've looked at the stances of the GOP field. They all suck except for Paul (who will not appeal to enough moderate and left leaning voters to win the general election) and Huntsman. And even though I am not happy with Obama, I will be less happy if somebody like Santorum or Gingrich get the shot in enact their horrendous policies.

You do realize that since it's inception, that children's IQ scores have steadily been slipping. You should read "The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America" by Charlotte Thomson Iserbyt. She ran TDoE during the Reagan Administration, so she has inside knowledge to the inner workings of that institution. The fact of the matter is, the people in charge want to dumb us down. They want us smart enough to be able to be able to work, but dumb enough to not realize how badly we are getting f@#!ed!!!

By the time, he gets into office, if elected, he will be almost 80 years old!---This may be "Age Discrimination", but it is ridiculous.

He is barging in on the Republicans who are running to break up the true Candidates that are electable. The Dems must be thrilled.

Also, if elected, he remains in office, he will be 84 years old. This must be taken into consideration if he should be the "one" to be the Republican Candidate.

Who knows anything about his "Health" at this point. I see some health, physical changes that could be very, very serious.

@Walker25..... What good has the Department of Education done? Since it's creation by our 2nd worse president, Jimmy Carter, the amount of money spent on education has skyrocketed while our children have gone from 1st in world in most categories to not even making the top 25. The DoE has proven to be a waste of money for inferior results. Prove me wrong if you can. If you want to see what a progressive educational system ran by the federal government produces look no further than the OWS people. Other than burned out hippies trying to recapture their youth most of the OWS crowd are the first generation to go through progressive indoctrination from kindergarten through high school and into college. Instead of teaching these kids reading, writting and math they were taught that "everyone gets the same trophy." "There are no winners and losers." "Heck we don't even keep score." All they had to do was show up and they got their reward. Ability, knowlege and skill mean nothing. They were taught that it is more important that their feelings not be hurt than it is to tell them they are wrong so they might learn something.

I was going to comment on several statements here, but I decided against it. What I am going to say is that, neither the Party Dems, nor the Party Repubs, give one Flying Fu*K about, you, me, or America. What they care about is how much money/power they can achieve. Think Wall Street, They currently rule the World. How many times lately, have you watched the stock market, only to see that we are down because of the European Market, and the next day we are up, because of the European Market? I call Bull@!$%# on that. They managed to manipulate Millionsof people to buy into 401K's, IRA's, CPA's, DEA's,CIA's, CEO's, IOU's, etc. etcetra's/ so that they could crash it on purpose, they have it down to a science(much like Vegas and sports betting and the point spreads), they know what they are doing, at least in the sense that they are robbing us all blind. Screw the established Repub/Demo Party's, lets vote all of these douche bags out of office. Let's pass laws that state, that "No Politician can serve more than 3 consecutive terms, period. No politician can retire with life time benefits, period. No politician can pass a law that they them selves do not have to live by. No politician can earn, or receive more than $100,000.00 dollars per two year term. No politician can be legally connected with a so called 'Super Pac', meaning, if it is found out, they have to give all of the money to the local constituency, and then serve at least 100 hours of community service. For all of you current repubs, who want a romney or santorum or gingrich, go ahead and vote for these douche bags, but don't bitch to loud when America sucks even more than it does now, or, Bitch even louder to get rid of these scum bags.

Don't support Obama because he made sure that the funding continued given the bitter pill it was wrapped in by the GOP? Now you will support someone from the GOP?

It was a bunch of silly people, desperate for attention, competing against each other, entirely over their heads, usually failing to overcome the obstacles they encountered and ultimately ending up rolling in the mud, .... and then that was followed by "Wipe-out."

Romney never answered a question the moderators asked. The moderators didn't ask him to answer the question as they asked it. What a useless waste of time listening to his gibberish.

Santorum is out of touch with everyone.

Huntsman actually appeared a bit desperate to me.

        Gingrich just blew more smoke.

Perry hasn't got a clue. He and Santorum actually wants our military to go back into Iraq because of .... WTF?

Paul, as predicted, reserved his right to not endorse anyone on the stage with him if he didn't get the nomination. Which makes him a possible 3rd party candidate. Which will spilt the conservative vote allowing Obama to be re-elected.

They all gave crap answers about creating jobs .............. Cause the government can't possibly help doing that. Invest in infrastructure, how if not the government. The bridges and roads belong to the government. The private sector won't repair them on their own! WTF?

I can't believe the stupid questions these moderators come up with. Why have they not asked Romney about his statements that he would have allowed the entire auto industry to die???????

The fact that the auto industry was bailed out (and not indifferent between that and the Chrysler bailout of the 80's), it was the difference between just being in a recession and being in another Great Depression. The bailout saved over 1 million jobs. I bet Lee Iaccoca's hair would be standing on end if he had to listen to Romney say that again.

These wanta-bees who have absolutely no idea what it is like to go from paycheck to paycheck or get foodstamps, should never be allowed to run for office.

What I took from this debate is what a bunch of nincompoops these GOP candidates are - they can't even figure out who to go after in these debates or how; why should we turn over the launch codes of our strategic forces to people this dumb? As for Romney: I saw his tax plan today and it's hard to consider him a business genius that can "save our economy" when that idiot can't even add and subtract.

PS: any political party that thinks Michelle Bachmann or Ron Paul are serious contenders for the Presidency, and let them get this far in the process, has got some work to do before they are considered credible.

Those who have a roof over their heads, food on the table, bills paid, good schools for their children, and a police service there in their neighborhoods to assist; these same people berate Pres Obama daily, right?

I say some don't even deserve a president as dedicated as Obama. It is the GOP cry babies that keep looking for war but each time we bomb a nation, America also helps to rebuild it and it cost more than all the food stamps in the world because these innocents have their lawns rearranged against their will. Natural resources destroyed, schools and public buildings, blown to bits! I would rather my $ and ¢ be used to provide an American, down on his or her luck, living at a shelter with three little ones and torn up inside wondering what to do. They feel so hopeless...and so ashamed and I counsel with them; I try to make them feel better but in reality, the only thing that will restore their dignity is a paycheck.

So, the GOP babies HELP the situation by calling them names and talking about how filthy they are. A little advice; sit down on the same muddy surface that he or she is sitting on and give them a cup of hot coffee and then; just listen to what they have been through! Then go on about the business of cursing and berating Obama. Without SOME social programs, we are savages ourselves!

The republitards with their obstruct everything platform are doing everything possible to ensure the rich get richer and and the rest of Americans struggle and crumble.

Its like running a large Corporation and because you see a young boy out of High School that can read speaches well, you make him the CEO of the Company. This person, has no experience in the economy, (never had a Job), Never ran a company. Never had to worry about a payroll. Never saw Military Service. Was Mentored by a radical Pastor. Still doesn't go to Chruch. Never cast a vote in his home sate as a Senator that had any meaning. Has the record for No votes in the two years he was senator of His home state. His Accomplishments so far...Giving us more debt in 3 years than any president in History. Gas prices now double from when he took office.. ...Gave us a Heallth care bill that can bankrupt this country faster than any other etitlement...By the Way when Bush was President he never saw 8 percent unemployment in 8 years with his bad policies...I could fill this page with the poor discisions this man has made, but let me read on. It is almost comical to believe any of this garbage. If he gets elected again and accomplishes what he did this past three years, we will be. 20 Trillion in debt and another 20 million will be on food stamps.. then we can give unemployment checks for 200 weeks....wake up liberals...we are going down fast.

How about we all give each other a break, and back off the ill-considered implications that another author's points are less valid merely because of a misspelled word or two?

That is why it is bogus for people like Shellie to try to impress everyone that one party is much smarter than another party. This is not a formal place to concentrate totally on proper grammer and spelling and usually those who do are just trying a put down on their opponent. I rarely mention those errors unless someone like Shellie makes that effort with the idea that she can limit the free speech of others. I also find that if I read back some of my own posts that I have made errors simply from not concentrating on spelling and grammer.....Big deal, who cares??? If you cannot get your points across, dont change the subject to spelling and grammer....

sequimguy??? Kill bin laden? Obama did that? if he had his way from the beginning we wouldn't be there in the first place so we couldn't have killed him, yet you liberals give him all the credit.

Been where in the first place? Iraq? Where Bin Laden WAS NOT? Nor was there any Al Qaeda presence before our then dimbulb president launched his ill-conceived and incompetently executed invasion, which got us nearly 5000 dead troops, who knows how many dead Iraqis, a strong terrorist presence in Iraq, and a destabilized country in which Iran can interfere at will.

And why shouldn't Obama get the credit for killing OBL? After all, it did happen on his watch, ten years after W called for bringing him in "dead or alive" and accomplished neither. Why is that, do you suppose? As one writer suggested, maybe it had something to do with the Bush family's close ties to the bin Laden family and the Saudi royal family. You think? How big an embarrassment was it to the Saudis when it was revealed that the mastermind behind 9/11 and practically all of the hijackers were Saudi Arabian?

And now this idiot Perry says he'd GO BACK? Jeez, is he really W in disguise? Because he's just as dumb (dumb as a post, that is).

I am really surprised to see Obama fans here. I lean Democratic, but Obama has scared me to death for the last four years and continues to do so. I will vote for ANYONE but Obama. We have lost so many of our freedoms under him as well as his not improving our country. He does not appear to know how our country was based to begin with and being BY THE PEOPLE is something he absolutely ignores or doesn't understand. What happened to For the People and By the People. I love our flag and my right to worship my GOD when and where I want. Slowly but surely our freedom is going by the wayside. I do have my preferences. I am an independent who leans Democrat..........but NOT that Democrat.

        Go Ron Paul GO!!!

What freedoms are you talking about? The president has had the backing of the majority of the American people in many of his positions and the right has spent the majority of it's time blocking that backing. This president has done absolutely nothing to infringe on your right to worship any God, any where. Name any freedom lost during this administration.

Ron Paul is 79 years old. By the time he is elected into office (if it should so happen), he will be 80 years old, then by the end of the term he will be 84 years old.

Let's start with the freedom to travel on the southern border towns of our own country or even into the Mexican border towns like Nogales without the concern of being gunned down by a cartel member with a firearm sold to them with the blessing of Mr. Obam and his right hand top cop Mr. Holder, all for the chance they could persuade enough gullible American voters and representatives to increase our already stringent gun control laws and loose more of our Second Ammendment FREEDOMS. Ever hear of that one VW? As a past Federal Firearms License holder and gun store dealer, I have seen and heard of MANY of our freedoms being lost under this administration as well as many of the previous Republicrats. Unfortunately, we will not see a viable, third party candidate, who will be able to win for many years. By then, our REPUBLIC will be a thing of the past and we will be just like any other European Socialist Society, like my family live in, Sweden.

Over 70% of the American people voted AGAINST Obamacare --- Obama still passed it. It is AGAINST the constitution. It is NOT the federal government who decides medical on people, that is AGAINST the constitution.

He is bypassing laws that are put in place for a reason -- He just appointed people one day after the Senate declared recess, when he is supposed to wait at least 3 days to appoint those people. He said that if congress is not going to step up then he will.

Obama has stood on the side of protestors cheering them on for defecating on police vehicles, burning the American flag, and told them to riot.

Obama goes on vacation more than once a month, and every time he does he spends over 1 million dollars a day of tax payers money to be on that vacation. He throws parties at the white house, which cost tax payers over 1 million dollars every time he throws a party.

He has raised taxes on businesses so much that he has put more than 2 million people out of business because of his raising of taxes on businesses, which makes it unaffordable for businesses to hire people within the United States.

He has asked for funds to pay for TEMPORARY jobs. Jobs that only last max 3 months, and that is over $600 million each time he does it, which has been over 10 times. ALL that money comes from taxpayers.

You are being an idiot if you think that the majority of people have backed Obama, when over 55% have disagreed with EVERYTHING he has wanted to do, but Obama still does it anyway.

You will see. He is just setting it up so he can declare Martial Law so he can become the President for however long he dictates it to be.

Obama is already dismantling the military, because he knows the military will not detain their own people, especially innocent people, so he is getting rid of them.

Wake up. OBAMA NEEDS TO BE IMPEACHED. HE BREAKS EVERY LAW OUR CONSTITUTION HAS, SPENDS MILLIONS OF TAXPAYER DOLLARS TO GO ON VACATIONS, and IS THE BEST SMOOTH TALKER IN THE WORLD, BECAUSE HE IS ABLE TO MANIPULATE PEOPLE IN TO THINKING HE LOVES AMERICA, WHEN HE HATES AMERICA, and SO DOES HIS WIFE.

The Republican Party is in shambles and has no meaningful candidates.

Steve, the problem is not necessarily those republican's ideology entirely, it may rather be, you should re-examine some of your understanding of some things.

You have to understand that the Democratic Party was split between Kennedy and Clinton. The Clinton's had trumped Kennedy until Kennedy threw his support behind Obama, which got the Chicago style politics and power involved.

The reason Obama has only a 45% approval at this point is because 55% of the voters believe his direction is the problem - despite support from the news media. Incumbents with much less than 50% approval almost never get re-elected, unless they other guy can be made to look worse. And that is what is being worked on.

        @DB Akron,

What are you talking about? Who is this Kennedy that split the Democratic Party between him/her self and Clinton? Here are the 2008 Democratic Presidential Candidates: Obama, Biden, Clinton, Dodd, Edwards, Gravel, Kucinich and Richardson. I suspect you are referring to Sen. Ted Kennedy who did run for President in the 1980 Presidential campaign. Twenty eight years later (2008) he had a seizure (May 17) which led to a diagnosis of brain cancer. From that point on his participation in politics was spotty, although he did indorse Obama. My point is that I think you are so behind the times you are getting the 1980 and the 2008 elections mixed up in your mind.

It's just a vicious form of politics that everyone at some point develops to raise the ranks. You could use George Bush-Karl Rove style Texas politics and be articulating Chicago Style Politics. Well Gilf Hunter based on your extremely conservative comment its a little difficult to believe you voted for Obama but that's neither here nor there. I don't think you have a much better line up this time around so you can rectify your failure to recognize how horrible your mistake was. You can vote for the guy who lost to McCain and Failin... Sorry but I don't share your optimism that they would have made better leaders. See I am not in a dreamworld where the sky is a different color than blue, well brown actually. The guy deserves a lot of credit for the way he has composed himself amid a torrent of historical proportion of obstructionism and just plain vile hatred from the GOP who I might add was constantly chirping throughout the Bush administration about how us dirty liberals needed to show some respect for the office. I for one will show the office the respect it deserves and I will tell a hypocrite that he or she is a hypocrite too... I do respect your right to your opinions but this is a liberal newsvine so expect the truth to be shoved down your throat from time to time. If you don't like it... Turn to a different channel. After all this is as you all like to call it PMSNBC. My advice is smother your anger in some love, get laid and if you can't... Go fux yourself.

          @ DonkeyHoty

First, I'm not "extremely conservative" as you would like to think. I just like to get all sides of the story instead of just one. I watch MSNBC, Fox News and PBS. I'm a realist living in a real world and you are living in your own little utopia echoing the same old Democratic talking points about the Republican "obstructionists". I've got news for ya, both parties do it. Yes, you're right about the choice of Republican challengers to Obama, but he is doing such a terrible job that I don't think it will matter. He will be a one term president. The truth, which you think you are speaking, is not the truth. You need to diversify your news choices and change the channel every once in awhile. As a Democrat, you should support one of JFK's quotes where he stated, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country". I thought the Obama I voted for stood for that principle, but it's turned out to be more of a "ask what your country can do for you and if you don't get it, just keep whining and bitching until you do". In addition, explain how the the rich have gotten richer and Wall Street "too big to fail" companies and executives have taken in more revenues under the last 3 years with Obama than 8 years under Bush...and Bush sucked! Obama is a great public speaker and that's it. He is nothing more than that. I respect your opinion and you as a person enough not to tell you to "Go fux yourself". You're the one who sounds angry and needs some lovin'.

Yeah Paul is a loony toon that hasn't been scrutinized because he is so disconnected from reality that no one with any clout, even within the Republican Party, give him much attention. They know he is too nutty to win so they figure the best way to deal with his is ignore him. They know the Paul nuts will knuckle under and still vote Republican when they put up one of their own at the convention. The scary part is that there are so many people out there who allow themselves to be drugged by his brand of political opium. But, they allow themselves to be used by the GOP so the power players in the GOP have nothing to lose with the wingnut fringe smoking his brand of opium. But here's the kicker, by the GOP having so many odd ducks like Paul, Bachmann and Cain running on their ticket they allow the nonaligned voters to see just how out on the fringe the GOP has gotten in the last 20+ years.

Ron Paul could repudiate one newsletter (at the time it was distributed) and get away with it. He didn't - and others followed. Why? because the audience agreed with him (or his ghost writers) that's why. This is a genie that will never be stuffed back into the bottle....add to it his opinion that sexual harrassment in the workplace should not be illegal and that women should just quit if they don't like it puts him decades behind where civil rights and common DECENCY is now.

But...if you want to write in his name instead of voting for the generic loon the GOP finally serves up on the Election Day Platter, go right ahead. He will go down in history as the Ross Perot of 2012...and that will be way too kind of a way to remember someone who should have retired a decade ago.

Yes. Against popular belief - it is not 'the who' you are against, but 'the what' you are for. Government overreach is a game of playing ever-changing favorites in an inequitable and narcissistic manipulation of the country. The overreach of the federal government steals every individual's ability to make choices that serve their needs and those of their family, their community, their city and their state. That is proven with every new law, mandate, tax and invasion of personal freedoms. An overreaching federal government both creates and drives internal division, greed, coniving, cynicism, disdain, fear and war. It coerses people to rise up against each other instead of clearing the way for working together. It doesn't affect change, rather it increases citizen competition for favor, special treatment and a rival mentality. You have the right to think the way you want to think, to like what you like, to live how you want to live, to spend your money the way you want to spend it. You will have less and less say over your life as long as the federal government is not dramatically reduced in size and scope by limiting it to its Constitutional perameters. Ron Paul 2012!

alim...good post. The more that government grows in size and authority, the less opportunity that we all have....Government officials become the new elite. The new successful will be decided and picked by government....for reasons other than effort and ability and hard work.(That leaves political reasons).

Remember that all of politics is FAKE, just like professional wrestling and TV award shows. The script writing is bad, the acting is worse, and ALL outcomes are decided MONTHS or YEARS in advance.

The Republican Party already chose its eventual 2012 "nominee" at least a year or two ago. Unfortunately, we mere mortals must still sit through more of these FAKE taxpayer-funded "caucuses" and FAKE taxpayer-funded "debates" and FAKE taxpayer-funded "campaigns," all leading up to a FAKE taxpayer-funded "nominating convention" where we will finally learn what the Party has already decided.

Precisely! People are dumb and easily misled. They fail to travel down the rabbit hole to see where the truth leads. The fact is, no matter how much we love our parents, it does not make them the smartest when it comes to the truths in life. They were subject to the same doctrines that we were. It is up to each individual to question all that was taught to them to see if it applies. Most people think they are free thinkers, but they are not. Politics is exactly what you said it is.

Now, that's funny! The reason our economy crashed was because of Bush's insistence that low income minorities should be able to afford top-notch housing. He reduced and then eliminated down-payments on housing loans to increase home-ownership. When the whole lot blew up in his face, Republicans blame it on Liberals.

Damn it, man! Research your history before you make stupid comments!

Please check your facts before making idiotic borderline racist statements. The Community Reinvestment Act was passed in 1977, 15 years BEFORE Clinton was elected. Hardly the cause of the housing bubble. Please get your statistics on foreclosures due to lousy mortgages (versus bankruptcy due to job loss and/or medical bills) They are OVERWHELMINGLY WHITE homeowners, many of them speculators hoping to flip and others using equity lines as piggy banks for cruises and cars and big screen TVs.

                        Truth sucks doesn't it.

danny-1798355, apparently Mr. Gingrich's staff fed him the wrong information, because FACT....59% of the Country that is on welfare happens to be White Americans, with Black Americans having 43%. This means that in the past 4 years, more Black Americans are in fact getting jobs and making an effort to not have to be on welfare. I think it's about time, you stop blaming black america because this is getting old. There are more Black, Latino, Asian, and Muslim Americans obtaining College Degrees here in the United States and the numbers continue to grow. Let's stop using race, class, and all the other rhetoric that you want to use to blame me, A BLACK, MBA Graduate, American who has NEVER been on Welfare. Served 20 years in the United States Army serving my country, for your less than fortunate life. Every one has a choice in life. I chose not to be a statistic..To not let anyone tell me what I cannot do, and to prove to racist like you that we are more than what you think us to be. You talk about free rides? I was never provided a free ride. I earned every stripe and every rocker that I wore on my uniform. I packed my own ruck, the same to which I used to Jump from a C130, C17 and the original C141 Aircraft. I have heart, compassion and love for this Country. A country in which I'm hated by individuals I've never met, solely because of the color of my skin. The bible says, Love thy Neighbor. I believe that to be whether they live next door, on the next block in the next city, state or country. Love one another and treat all with equal respect. If this is not what we are instilling and teaching our children, then we can never be the "United" States of America, just merely a state to which Americans live. It all starts with people like you, finally deciding to join hands with people of different races, instead of fighting them every step of the way. I've never done anything to you. I've not come into your home and taken food from your mouth or clothes off your back. I've never asked for money out of your pockets or caused harm to you or your family, yet, you hate me. What makes a person hate someone they know nothing about? What makes a person want to teach a child to hate? What makes a person just out right evil? I ask this of you. Perhaps you don't have an answer for me, but someday, God will ask those same questions of you, and I hope your response will be sufficient for him, and may he have mercy on your soul.

HAHA the CRA, I have never seen anyone use that info so incorrectly, that law was all but dormant, and it certainly was clinton who pushed into to practice. His campaign was CENTERED around a "put every american in their own home" or the like slogan. No, the CRA is directly related but until interstate banking was made possible in the early 90's it wasn't used in such a way that it forced banks to risky things resulting in such derivatives scandales thatsurfaced during the clinton presidency and caused, for the first time in history the inflation of the dollar to not coincide with the value of properties. This speculative marvel we have all seen, yes the bubble you all speak of. Bush, in the case of economic collapse actually holds very little blame, as much as I dislike him. When your office sends out pleas to create over site for scandalous psuedo-governmental institutions like fannie and freddie, more than 10 TIMES, I don't think you can then be responsible for something that happened under another presidents watch. Obama is quite another story.

descrc, I am glad you have the right to voice your opinion, but what a bunch of emotional nonsense you have spewed forth today. I mean really? That's what you honestly believe? If this is the extent of the depth you possess, i.e. regurgitating what you took from a few news stories with an obviously one-sided (probably investment bank fund) point of view, then there might not be hope for you. Not only is most of what you say based on how you feel, when you feign to establish something, its absolutely incorrect. Of course its hard to make opinion based claims and be incorrect, one might say, but some small amount of knowledge about whom you are speaking would not permit "good heart" to enter your mind. Its laghable really. The one "fact" you presented is absolutely false. Obama's initiatives have went through, because he created czars tp "make it so" He has done more to destroy our freedoms than any other president. He recently gave him self powers beyond any previous present. He is effectively a dictator now. As I said, I am glad you can express your self, but anyone in your category, that is type of "thinker," really shouldn't be able to vote. Its only fair. Its not a matter of education as many might also claim. Its a matter of IQ or something. We really hav a lot of people who can so whole-heartedly believe in a campaign strategy that they lose all logic in that bliss. Apparently years later it still blinds them. Its beyond absurd. By the way, I am BLACK, and I feel no different than you or anyone else because of that. Obama has had privileges because of his color, if anything. People like you make me sick, you pretend us "po' black folks" are broken and we need extra help. There is no greater insult than that. Am I a "racist?" That too is a tired old campaign strategy, but you are too busy feeling good about yourself because you voted for obama to see it.

Never in my life, my parents, or my sisters have we ever taken welfare. We are all college educated people and I am tired of hearing this race thing. Half the reason this country is so schizo is our race hang-ups. I follow only one creed. American's for America doesn't matter if they are white, black, native, asian, latin, or some islander. I am embrassed by our handling of Guam and Saipan, I think this country needs to get its act together because we are embrassing our kids. That is a collective we.

There is only one thing for all of us to be and that is American. When I was a kid my teachers point blank told me there is nothing that American's can't achieve. We've gone to the moon, we are some of the most inventive people in the world. We just need to roll up our sleeves and get to nation building within our own boarders.

As it is now this is most embrassing time for me personelly because I happen to be a function adult at this time. Making all this mess my responsibility. Not some politician, of which so far none have admiration, but my own fault. This is my country I wish to see it surge ahead in the world and I must commit my full effort to be a part of its growth. Anything less in my opinion is rooting for the fall of this great country.

TTTT - first, please learn to spell and use punctuation and I "might consider" your comments to be relative and intelligible. Your post is full of lies and any intelligent person can figure that one out. Remember the Patriot Act... Jr. signed that one. And the NDAA bill was supported with bipartisan support so you can't blame that one solely on Obama. And, in case you haven't been informed, all American citizens have the right to vote and to freedom of speech, including you. And in reading these political blogs, it is clearly evident that racism is still alive in this country and it makes my skin crawl when I read the hatred spewed forth by adults posting on this open form because I know that hatred is taught to their children... when will this ever end? We are ALL Americans! Obama 2012!

Learn how to properly convey your meaning--as insubstantial as it is. I didn't misspell anything those were typos. Leave to someone who really has no basis for calling me a lier to focus on something as trivial as punctuation, right out of the box, instead of providing some evidence that I lie. So what if the patriot act was passed in Congress under Bush, as well as signed into law? Does that discredit my claims? Does it make Obama have any less of the powers he has been seeking. Obama has certainly taken the Bush/Clinton/Bush paradigm to the next level--its something new. You spit back out exactly what I said with the "right to vote [...] freedom of speech" deal. Its only applicable to suggest that people maybe, at this point in history, people such as you---should have to take some sort of measurement pertaining to their accumulative knowledge....although you would be dense enough, apparently, to not understand that it is a form of humor. You are the perfect example actually, thank you for proving my point. While suggesting I am a racist black man, so elegantly, you have helped me further my argument. By the way Wordsmith, all this 'hatred,' as you call it, is being presented on a forum. Now THAT, you have misspelled. Forgive me if I ignore you from this point, the thought of such an ignorant and generic response appearing to have any weight was just a little more than I could bear. Oh, and someone who wants to lecture ME on punctuation and spelling should consider grammar :) -----I like this one: "supported with bipartisan support" Starting a sentence with "And" is frowned upon, as far as grammar is concerned, as well. There are a few more criticisms I could make. However, it doesn't seem nice since its obvious that your piece was somewhat meager. All of the obvious flaws might be embarrassing. You would be foolish to even pretend that you are in the same intellectual league as me, so quiet yourself now, lest ye add insult to the injuries you've done yourself. Thanks for making it easy, love, XXX (2012!!! WOOP WOOP!!)

It bodes well for Obama when even these boards have to regress to arguing about Bill Clinton. Can't defend or pick a guy of your own? Face it. GOP already knows this is a giveaway election. Unless Romney can pull it off. He is your guy. like it or not.

I don't like it . Romney excuses supporting the interests of corporations over the interests of people by claiming that corporations are people. Horsepucky!

                                    Check your facts:

American Dream Downpayment Initiative (ADDI) - signed into law on Dec 16, 2003.

                                    Sponsor: Sen. Wayne Allard [R-CO]

Co-sponsors: Samuel Brownback [R-KS]; Conrad Burns [R-MT]; Ben Campbell [R-CO]; Michael Crapo [R-ID]; Michael Enzi [R-WY]; Charles Hagel [R-NE]; Lisa Murkowski [R-AK]; Richard Santorum [R-PA]; Jefferson Sessions [R-AL]

Note that there was not one Democrat co-sponsoring this bill. The bill was sponsored by a Republican, co-sponsored only by other Republicans, passed by a Republican majority in the House and Senate and signed into law by a Republican president.

In Feb 2004, President Bush passed the "Zero-Down Payment Initiative." By the end of 2005, the Nat'l Association of Realtors reported that More than four out of every 10 recent first-time home buyers financed their purchases with no-down-payment loans.

                                        This is nonsense of course.

Fiscally, economically and so on Ron Paul is leaps and bounds more Conservative than Newt, Santorum, or Romney. Whether you agree with him or not; calling him a liberal shows your ignorance to the understanding of conservatism and it's history.
The only reason people like to call him a liberal is because he strays from the foolish Neo-Conservative idealogies that we need to police the world.

FYI to anyone else who wants to reply to this: I'm never on here so it won't do any good.

Google "Ron Paul Earmarks" and you'll see that isn't so. A earmark for 2 million dollars Federal money for bike racks and decorative street lights for his district. Shouldn't have they paid for that themselves?

He more or less explains the earmarks,...The way I understand it, is he is just doing his job, people request for him to present an earmark bill, its as simple as that, it doesnt mean he is going to vote for it, but hes not stopping others from voting on it,he is just putting it on the table...Its not that complicated.

Pat, you are wait out in left field somewhere. Ron Paul a liberal? A Ron Paul in the White House is the material that liberals wake up in cold sweats over and tell their little liberal spawn campfire scary stories about.

He is the anti-liberal and in a lot of ways the anti-conservative. He is a Libertarian at his core - which is why he gets my full support. He is only running with the Republicans because everyone knows that you cannot win the election if you are not on the red or blue ticket anymore...and naturally he would chose Republican because the liberals hate him something fierce as he would destroy everything they have slithered into our system over the past 80 years.

Liberals aim to expand the government and pose them to take care of the underachievers and the lazy. Ron Paul wants to put and end to most of the federal government and allow the states to govern as they see fit - you know those silly notions that our founding fathers had for America when then created all of this.

Business Owner - I hate to break it to you, Ron Paul wants to make money off of foolish people. He proposes no legislation, attacks all that has come before, and writes fantastical newsletters that generate income when convenient and then disavows them.

Oh, he also prepares for the coming race war, fake money, AK47 wielding IRS agents, etc, etc, etc.... He is a confidence man that preys on the weak minded.

                                        Hey jesuswillbrb,

Paul has introduced plenty of legislation lately, usually dealing with this presidential power grab of both the Bush and Obama administrations, along with bills about auditing the Federal reserve and trying to curb the wars. You are coming off as a major retard.

Not only did he repudiate the newsletters and openly declare his support for minorities, he also trashed the racist law/judicial system at the same time. He decidedly hit a home run on that one.

Now lets debunk those "racist newsletters" for the last time, how bout Reality Check, will that work for ya?

Ron Paul is a deluded little Martian.

Please. He's a dangerous, mental midget.

Destroy every federal program that works to ensure fairness for all, allow States to do what ever they want to - including insituting completely racist, draconian laws. Leave the people to fend for themselves against megacorporations, robber barons and bigoted local governments.

In his decrepid mind, the only responsibility the Federal government should have is making sure that super rich people and giant corporations escape responsibility for poisoning people(he's a doctor, too-shame on him), destroying the environment and paying forward their debt to the society that has made them wealthy. That's it.

Shut up with the Ron Paul stuff.

                                        Fanatics.

And Republicans will fix this, eh? The biggest reason our economy crashed was Bush trying to pad the Republican voting "base" with illegal Mexicans. His posturing about minority home ownership, reducing/eliminating down-payments on home loans and then crushing any attempts to regulate or restrict mortgage lending was all directed towards this.

Sorry, we have already seen how Republicans manage the economy... No thanks!

EXCUSE ME!!! What about the free-loading politicians?? They get free health insurance for both them and their family, FOR LIFE, at our expense, they get a pension that would take care of 10 senior citizens, or more, after they retire at our expense. They are pocketing money from special interest groups, they are out of session more than they are in session and then they sit on their hands and blame each other!!!! The 1% hardly pays taxes due to tax loopholes. Big companies, which includes oil are being given HANDOUTS(subsidies) while they are making big profits, who is paying for that US!! You want to see money back into the government then take all the subsidies away from the companies and close the tax loopholes and you will be surprised how much money is back in to the government without really cutting taxes. And for your information yes there are a lot of people out of jobs, but they are looking and are trying to get back on their feet, so stop looking down your nose,danny1798355 because you could be next if things don't change.

Definitely think something needs to be done about illegal immigrants as well as what you would describe as "free loaders." The government is very flawed right now, & many programs (Social Security, Welfare, etc) need serious reform. We are in way too much debt, Government is way too big, there is a total lack of oversight & accountability (i'm sure that size has a lot to do w/ that), the Fed has way too much control (especially considering it is a private banking institution), & China practically has us in their back pocket (which is a serious problem), & none of the canidates seem capable of or even able to fix this mess! Ron Paul has been the only canidate that I know of, to address these issues in a basic, logical way. I like his straight talk, though he can be quite abrasive at times. As for the others (w/ the exception of Jon Huntsman, who I don't know enough about), they frighten me w/ their extreme Christian ideology talk (I'm a Christian too, but firmly believe & agree w/ the Constitutional Amendment separating church & state). Religion absolutely needs to be kept out of politics! Not saying the president can't discuss his religious beliefs, just saying he can't use those views to make laws. Every American citizen is entitled to their constitutional rights regardless of color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, etc. All I know is that laws are being created that go against our constitutional rights, this is very scary to me! Another reason I like Paul, he's opposed to those laws. One thing that's very important for all of us to do is to look @ history. It repeats itself. Just saw a show on the Histor Chanel recently about Hitler's rise. There are some parallels in the state of Germany @ the time of his rise & our countries current situation, & anyone who took a Political Science course in college knows about the McCarthy era. We live in a wonderful country with wonderful ideals. But currently the economic outlook, & even the values that created our foundation are pretty vulnerable right now. Our forefathers risked everything & fought very hard for the freedoms & abilites we have enjoyed for so many years. One of the things they opposed was excessive taxes, we are taxed on items that have been taxed numerous times (real-estate, capitol gains, estate, etc.). Now we (if u live in Montgomery County, MD) have to pay a $.05 bag tax. It doesn't apply to just grocery bags or plastic bags, it applies to EVERY bag. If you shop @ a retail store & need a bag, you'll be charged. The greed has run amok & I'm sure our forefathers are spinning in their graves! One of the statements President Obama said on a television interview refering to this country's situation while he was campining was "there's bad and there's worse." I thought that statement was spot on. When I go to the voting polls, I'll be looking for the canidate who can keep things from elevating to worse.

                                                  ..."Hard workers"..

                                                  ..."Freeloaders"....

As I recall, this country was founded on freeloaders living off the hard work of others.

Back then, it was called SLAVERY.

I guess when you perceive that dark people are the freeloaders, it's a travesty, eh?

Giant Corporations and super-wealthy people are, in your mind, typically white. So it's ok that they receive government subsidies and tax breaks - that doesn't register as a "handout" to "freeloaders" in the small, conservative mind.

The racist leanings of the conservative mind are evident when the subject of Welfare is brought up, though. Suddenly, the image of brown people with kinky hair or accents pops up in their heads..Even though they are not the largest beneficiaries of programs like that or Affirmative Action. In fact, all you have to do is mention a black person or hispanic, and the accusations of welfare and handout dependency will fly. It's a conditioned response.

Well, they'll argue, a larger PERCENTAGE of dark people are on entitlements than White people. Uh, yeah! A little while ago, a larger percentage of White people voted, too. Then Black people got the right to vote. Its' what happens in a country with a large percentage of racist people -

                                                  It works like this...

If you think that Dark people are lazy, stupid, inept and dangerous, chances are you won't hire them or promote them. Unless you want to tell me that people who think that way are so benevolent as to hire or promote lazy, stupid, inept and dangerous people anyway?

                                                  Do you?

                                                  Have a nice day.

If the only thing keeping corporations from hiring is their tax rate, then why is unemployment so high while corporate taxes are at all time lows? Your incoherent rant starts by saying we have to cut taxes to get corporations to hire, then you go on about the rich paying "little" taxes and that we need a flat tax to raise corporate rates? This is making my head hurt. Try using some punctuation sometimes, it helps. Not that anyone should pay attention to your posts anyway...

The majority of them pay next nothing or no taxes at all due to the loopholes. Then there are ones who are receiving subsidies and they are making unbelievable profits, but they don't want to give up their subsidies that we are paying for. Companies have gotten cuts before in taxes and what have they done?? They have pulled their companies out of this country and put them in to 3rd world where they pay next to nothing in wages and no health insurance. What happens to them for doing that, they get a pat on the back and still get taxbreaks due to the money they put in various politicians' backpockets. The middle and lower classes can't take it anymore. Trying to shift what taxes the companies pay onto the back of the people of this country is only going to end up causing more of a recession because they can't spend what they should have due to having more of their money taken away from them, so that companies can keep more to themselves and ignore the problems of this country.

Over the last few decades, U.S. corporate tax revenue plunged to historic lows, falling from about 6 percent of GDP in the 1950s to barely more than 1 percent of GDP today. Obviously, part of the recent low level has to do with the Great Recession and its effect on businesses and their profits. But while corporate profits have rebounded to their pre-recession heights, setting a record in the third quarter of 2011, corporate tax revenue has yet to follow suit:

After plummeting from 2007 through 2009, U.S. corporate profits regained their precrisis peak in early 2010, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis. The latest, revised data released just before Christmas showed corporate profits before tax rose to a record $1.97 trillion in the third quarter of 2011.

But corporate tax receipts, as reported by the Treasury Department, remain lackluster, even as the economy has gained some ground of late. Although they have trended higher in recent months, corporate taxes measured on a 12-month basis were still under $200 billion in November. That is well below a precrisis peak of about $380 billion and still far below the government's fiscal 2012 target of $332 billion.

Corporate tax revenue has plummeted for several reasons, but one of the big ones is the growth of deductions, loopholes, and outright tax evasion that helps companies limit, or entirely eliminate, their income tax liability. 30 major corporations, in fact, paid no corporate income tax over the last three years, while making $160 billion in profits.

What a crock, Danny. That cutting taxes strengthens the economy is pure fundamentalist Republican SUPERSTITION!! What pulled this country out of the worst economy in our history ("The Great Depression") was wild government spending, for such projects as building picnic benches in national parks, and paying poets to write songs. It drove our national debt through the roof, and has not been paid off in 70 years. And, it was followed by WWII, which wasted money at even higher rates, and furthermore took 15,000,000 workers out of productivity, and set them to marching in aimless circles across the globe (from an economics point of view, Gees!). It was the greatest waste of money in human history. AND NO SANE PERSON WANTED TO GO BACK TO THE "MORE RATIONAL" TIME BEFORE THE GREAT WASTE TOOK PLACE!! Nor does anyone now!

While we're at it, Ronald Reagan was a semiliterate, B list movie star, with no understanding of economics, or much else, other than manipulating crowds. A nice enough bloke, I'm told. But, hardly the brightest bulb in the string.

All you people are absurd, I am more in support of smaller business, the liberals are far more leaning towards corporations, I dare anyone to try and prove that to not be the case. With that being said, both republicans and democrats, even more so as expected, are corporatists. In a global environment, does anyone here have a suggestion as to how by increasing taxes on corporations in the US, who already pay the highest in the world would source jobs back to America? haha What buffoonery! Since further outsourcing would push more corporations off-shore, those same people who pay MOST of the taxes would no longer be obligated. How can you people not see that a smaller portion is way better than nothing at all. The trick is to quit letting these corporations corner the market in every single small town and community by giving small businesses tax breaks. THEN you put the power back in to the middle class' hands, and only then. You guys are only thinking about what you can get from the government after these corporations have destroyed your livelyhood, with the governments help! so that you in turn need something from that government. It all starts with sound banking policies, many of the draconian, unethical banking policies in the US and elsewhere need to be exposed for what they are. And government agencies? HA! dio you know those "government agencies" the ones that you so love and feel are needed are just to police you? People with social concerns, gay marriage, whatever, I'm with you, those things are not the concern of anyone but you, but don't make that the reason why you vote for foolish economic policies. Its very foolish and when you buy that campaign premise and believe that is the most important thing for your country you are just a political tool.

The government spends more than it takes in to pay for programs we cannot afford. If a 1% cut across the board was taken, instead of simply looking at gutting a handful of individual targets we could tax less, get back to a budget like 2006/2007 and take the pressure off. Actually getting rid of rising debt only has one solution, and virtually everyone knows the answer to that.

Without much media attention, thousands of American troops are being deployed to Israel, and Iranian officials believe that this is the latest and most blatant warning that the US will soon be attacking Tehran.

Tensions between nations have been high in recent months and have only worsened in the weeks since early December when Iran hijacked and recovered an American drone aircraft. Many have speculated that a back-and-forth between the two countries will soon escalate Iran and the US into an all-out war, and that event might occur sooner than thought.

Under the Austere Challenge 12 drill scheduled for an undisclosed time during the next few weeks, the Israeli military will together with America host the largest-ever joint missile drill by the two countries. Following the installation of American troops near Iran’s neighboring Strait of Hormuz and the reinforcing of nearby nations with US weapons, Tehran authorities are considering this not a test but the start of something much bigger.

'Honest' and 'create not destroy' are terms that are simply not borne out regarding numerous past and present actions of the current administration. 'Deceptive' and 'detrimental' are terms that do apply to very important actions and inactions taken by the administration which the country cannot continue to tolerate. It's not red or blue, it's simply untenable governing, and it's not new to one administration. The People must hold any and all administrations to standards of Constitutional law such as the line that must be drawn in the sand by the People against the administration/s who drive war. So is further embezzlement of taxpayer funds, actions of the police state and overruning individual rights, the infringement of property rights/illegal search and seizure, and the list goes on. An internal war of party pawns via public 'team' mentality is not effective application of citizen's rights to limit government control to laws or that necessitates applying law to every citizen equally. The rest is independent personal opinion, which matters most to you the individual, and to which you have a right to perpetuate in your life via liberty. But it is not the presidents job or your congress persons job, or your neighbors job to run your personal life for you, even if they scream and holler that they know so much better than you what is right for everyone. On that, no one will ever agree, and nor should they be forced to. Peace, Liberty, Sound Money. That is the role of government.

I just wonder, as the years went buy, as he was growing up if it ever dawned on him, that all of the mistakes the business and political oligarch were making, would land on his shoulders, and he would bare the blame for it.

What a travesty, and they have the gall to call Obama a socialist/communist/whatever else they can tag him with.

Just imagine YOURSELF walking into a big house. You open the doors the the place is so trashed there are no adjectives to describe the damage.

Every fixture in this place has been busted. Every water pipe is busted and flooding the place with water. Someone has take open paint cans and thrown them as hard as they could to do the maximum damage.

There are huge gaping holes in all of the walls, and some one has torn half of the roof off.

It is your job to fix it. You do the best you can to restore this place, but as you are working, there are people hiding in this big house that are trowing rocks at you as you drag the debris out of the house.

As you attempt to patch the holes in the walls, some one is turning your plaster tray over, or stopping the materials from being delivered to the house.

As you by the skin of your teeth get the shelter, (the roof) (affordable health Ins) in place you are threatened that the minute you turn your back they are going to rip it off again.

So far you have spent 3 years restoring this disaster, and there is clearly progress despite the constant disruption, and obstruction, but now the same family that not only did the damage, and blocked progress in it's restoration are judging YOU because you did not get done fast enough.

Now they want YOUR job and will build on what headway YOU have made, hoping the public will forget who caused the damage, but will only remember and praise them,... as they touch up the final coat of paint in completing this terribly complicated mess YOU cleaned up.

This is the Republican Party VS President Obama.

If you think Obama is bad because he will invade less countries than his predecessor, you have proven my point.

I did not say Bin ladin was killed in Iraq nor did i say we invaded Pakistan. I believe however that we would not have had access to the intel that led to the discovery of Bin Ladin's location if not for the war on terror. But before you burn me alive i dont believe we should have a large force in the middle east. I think we could get info on dangerous persons via skilled incursions (SEALs missions) rather than losing many lives of soldiers in all out war, but then again i am not going to pretend i know anything about military strategies. My comment earlier was not intended to be a shot at liberals and all they believe. I was merely saying that Obama should not be hailed for killing Bin Ladin as much as he has been. You have painted me as a die hard republican who is biased and unable to see past the fallacies of conservative thinking. When in fact I am not. I see fallacies in both conservative and liberal views and i try to stay open minded. In reality i would probably have more comments showing the problems with republican views but the rest of you have that covered, that and many of you are more educated in politics than i am, and i am not afraid to admit that.
